Wanting to know a word

Hey this is hard to explain but I basically want to know the word that means small but still strong (theirs bound to be a word for it)

To make it easier, it's for a video game (world of warcraft) and is to be the name of my gnome character (who's a warrior)

so it's a small character but still a warrior so strong..

if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it

The first word that pops into mind is Dynamo. :)

Charlatan 05-31-2006 08:48 AM

Stout is the first thing that pops to mind.

You know what's awesome? The internet has a "gnome name generator." Maybe that'll have something to help. http://nine.frenchboys.net/gnome.php

You can always play the ridiculousness factor;

It doesn't have to be a word for small yet big, just name him something big. You've got the small covered. Giant, Collusus, Gigantor, Hercules, Hulk, Bulk, etc.. all come to mind.

I read a great modern-day fiction book* with ancient Vikings in it. They decided to bestow a title on their helper (Hilda), and named her Vel-Hilda, because 'vel' "...is short, and it means well".

maybe gnomeZILLA or gnomeOSAURUS or something more warrior-like or "knightly" but still royal suggesting power like KinGnome

I like "Sue", in tribute to Johnny Cash.

'Master Blaster" from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome...

Hero Concentrate. Just add pain.

ratbastid 05-31-2006 12:02 PM

How about "scrappy"? Every gnome warrior I've ever met has been scrappy.

Charlatan 05-31-2006 12:18 PM

Scrappy brings on too many bad memories of Scrappy Doo...

Puppy Power is best left in the past.

Zeraph 06-01-2006 10:32 AM

Stringy. Sinewy. Pugnacious just means tough, but the PUG in it reminds me of small but tough.

I was thinking "indomitable" - from Asterix...

But I don't think that's quite right.

What about Asterix then. I had a laptop called Asterix.

As Nathan Hale said, "I only regret that I have but one asterix for my country."

(He was later paraphrased.)

Hey, how about Chow. It's the only animal besides a grizzly bear that has a black tongue and is a somewhat "normal" sounding name.

barenakedladies 06-02-2006 07:21 AM

"the short stack"
"the mighty mite"
"the tonka toy"
"the terror of tinytown"
"the wonder boy"
"three feet of thunder"
"pocket hercules"
"the half pint hellion"
"the pope of pee-wee town"
"little johnny jack flap"
"kid lighting"
"the lower case G"

BadNick 06-02-2006 09:30 AM

Nitro-gnome ...OK, maybe I'm alliterate

Bobaphat 06-02-2006 11:34 AM

Anyone remember the cartoon Adam Ant? He kicked some ass and was only an ant

absorbentishe 06-02-2006 12:14 PM

G-nome
Atom
Fred
Magrilla
okay, I'll stop.

Pip 06-05-2006 06:29 AM

You could name the character after an animal that's small yet strong, like a bulldog or a badger. Something like "Badger Ben" or whatever gnomes are called.

I believe Staunch or Potent are the words you are looking for.

My Gnome Rogue is named Haeze :)

Hehe, I like it. You should name him Pugnacio!

CaliLivChick 06-14-2006 05:28 PM

I agree with Charlatan... stout is the first word that came to my mind as well.
