Keep colored clothing especially black looking like new?

Can someone recommend the best way of washing my colored clothes to keep them looking like new and not fade especially black clothing? What detergent or techniques do you use?

Use liquid detergent. Powders can get clumpy and stick to dark clothing. And my best advice...unless it smells excrutiating or has visible stains, most clothing doesn't need to be washed after every wearing. Never underestimate the power of spot checking. And invest in a good lint roller. This is how I keep my clothes in good shape and make them last for many years.

I would also suggest to hang dry your clothes, Mine fade a lot in the dryer, so if you can, don't use the dryer.

Of course, though it probably goes without saying, only use cold. Use somewhat less detergent than the directions call for.

are you in the USA or Europe?

because, here (europe) you can buy, in several brands, liquid deterg. specially designed for black clothes.

dunno if they have that in the US anywhere yet...

Screw that, Ritt dye and sharpie markers will keep your black clothes dark, and there is always the black leather shoe dye.
Works wonders!
