Remove smell of onions
i work with food and when i use onions, which is often, i can't get the smell off my fingers, anyone know a good way to get rid of it, it's pretty bothersome
|
I've always found a lemon does the trick for both onions and garlic. Chop one in half and squeeze the juice all over your hands. Wash your hands vigorously with the juice paying particular attention to your finger tips, cuticle beds, and the webs of your fingers.
Then just wash them afterwards with regular soap. -bear |
i'll try it man, better stock up on lemmons though,
second thought do you think lemon juice( ths stuff in a bottle) would work |
I've seen something sold through several different catalog companies that is supposed to work. It's basically a piece of metal shaped like a bar of soap. I'll try to find out where I saw that and add something here.
Googling... http://www.tipztime.com/area/kitchentipz/odors.html To get the onion or garlic smell off your hands just rub your hands on your stainless steel sink, viola!! (Jean) ______ To get the smell of onion from your hands after cutting up an onion, simply rub a metal spoon all over your hands under water. (Linda) |
Lemon juice or touching stainless steel will get rid of the smell of onions or garlic.

I'll have to try the stainless steel. The lemons I understand but how does the stainless steel work. I don't do much cooking but when I do I seem to always end up using onions.

Ah, the magical mystery of the stainless steel. I asked a bunch of chemical and electrical engineers about it once and the only answer they could come up with was "Uuh... something with ions probably." Yay for science!
Anyways, I use a stainless steel teaspoon and rub it all over my hands under running water and it removes any smell. You mustn't miss any spot though. |
