Sitting up with the dead
 

Four young cousins were expected to sit up all night with the body of their Uncle Mike after his wake. The uncle had a severe hunchback, and the only way the mortician could get him to lie flat in the casket was to attach a rubber strap across the coffin at his chest and keep the bottom half of the casket closed.

At 9PM, a storm came up and one of the young men said, "If you boys are going to sit up, I might as well go on to bed."

At 10PM, the storm got worse, and another of the young men said, "If you two boys are going to sit up, I might as well go on to bed."

At 11PM, the storm kept building, and one of the young men looked at the other and said, "If you're going to sit up, I might as well go on to bed." And he left his cousin alone with the body.

At the stroke of midnight, the wind was howling and the rain was beating into the house. A bolt of lightning and a clap of thunder shook the house and knocked out all the lights except for the small candle that was burning in the room with the lonely young man and the body of Uncle Mike, the hunchback.

Just at that moment, the strap across Uncle Mike's chest broke loose and the top half of his body came riding up out of the casket.

The young man rushed up to the casket and said, "Uncle Mike, if you're going to sit up, then I'm definitely going on to bed!"

Heh, cute one.

Ahhh man. All of that for that kind of punch line?

Not all that good, but ok.

heh, this reminded me of a "classical" style of joke.

couldnt you just imagine this joke being said over a table a hundred years ago? =)

Or if he didn't know about that strap....
