The recent "Two priests" thread reminded me of a favorite joke I love to tell....

A priest and a rabbi are sitting around, shooting the breeze about their careers.

"Thank God, the synagogue is doing wonderfully. People are getting along, we just remodeled the sanctuary, and a generous donor just gave us a new Torah scroll." Rabbi Ginsburg says, happily.

"And d'ye think there's anything bigger on the horizon for ye?" Asks Father O'Reilly, with interest.

"Well, you never know. I could always be offered a larger congregation, maybe more money." Rabbi Ginsburg shrugs. "How about you?"

"Sure, and it's a fine time I'm having with me parish," Father O'Reilly says. "The folk love me, I love doing me duties, and the Bishop and the Cardinal both know me and like me!"

"Sounds like you have real potential to move up. Do you think you're going places?" Rabbi Ginsburg asks.

"Well, a feller can hope, can't he? I suppose I might make Bishop one o' these days."

"And then?" Rabbi Ginsburg asks. Father O'Reilly shrugs,

"I suppose it's not impossible that I become a Cardinal someday."

"And then?"

"Then? Well, 'tis a long shot, but I guess I could eventually be pope." Father O'Reilly laughs.

"And then?" Rabbi Ginsburg presses.

"'And then?!' What d'ye mean 'and then'?! I'd be the bloody pope, wouldn't I? What else d'ye want from me, man? D'ye expect me to become God?"

"Well..." The rabbi shrugs again, "One of our boys made it."
