What are some of your favorite game endings [Possible spoilers]
I recently finished Jade Empire and you actually get:
Spoiler: applauses at the end. When your character walks back into town after defeating the evil emperor, all the townsfolk give you a standing ovation. It really helped drive home the feeling of accomplishment you get when you complete a game like that. |
Star Control II:
Spoiler: You blow up the Sa-Matra and then you get to marry the super-hot alien chick and there's an awesome teaser for the sequel that, unfortunately, did not get used because Accolade sucks cock. GTA: Vice City I just love the music that plays over the closing credits. Until recently, when I went and found out how to rip that track off the disc, I kept a save right before the final mission which I would beat just so I could listen to the music. |
I'm a big fan of the end of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Other than being one of the best (and last) side scrollers ever made, the ending(s) are both appropriate and satisfactory.
Also, who can't appreciate the end of MegaMan 2. Nothing like a little trip through the seasons with his various costumes. Ah good times. The end of the first Half Life is pretty awesome, too, as are the endings to the original Deus Ex. |
Well obviously the first KOTOR.
The original Ninja Gaiden for NES had a great ending and some of the best ending music ever. It was satisfying because the game was so DAMN hard to beat. I remember liking the ending to Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast as well. |
contra...
island blows up.... the end bad dudes.... something blows up... we're bad.... the end. but my favorite from when i was a kid was supermario 2. |
The ending for Pong has got to be the best ending ever.
|
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. Tied into each other really well.
|
The end of the first fallout game- you win, and save the frigging world, and the society you did it for kicks you out into the wasteland- the music at the begining of the game ties in even, a it just works in so many subtle ways........
|
Sands of Time is memorable, as was starcraft/broodwar endings
|
KUNG FU for NES...
SYLVIA... hearts surround you, you hug... and then the bitch gets kidnapped again... wtf! |

Until you rescue her and you have to do it all over again... |
Terranigma for the SNES. Incredibley depressing, but I liked it.
Chrono Trigger with it's 574750354203 endings must've had at least one good one. I don't remember which one I got. |
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
spoiler: when you go evil and still get the girl :)) Mostly because eve though the plot is directional you could (depending on your actions) control where this went .. and all the various endings were fun :) |
Pong, fuckin eh;
I remember that one, when the paddle starts to dance, and the music does that little stutter "bobbooooobbooooboobo" thing. At the end, the ball turned GREEN for fuck sakes! Kids, you have to remember that the year was 1981, I was six, and the NES wasn't out yet. We were damn proud of that green ball. The neighborhood kids came over to see. Funny you should mention that, Suave, because when I was in grade school my friends would shout out "Ben has Green Balls!" as a term of endearment. Hells yeah. |
Finally beat a game I've had for a while today.
Apparently Mario, the Princess, and Yoshi are going on a vacation. |

I felt gypped and satisfied at the same time. |
Agreed, Mario 2 was an earth-shattering ending to a 7-year-old.

I most certainly didn't get all teary at the end of Planescape: Torment. And anyone who says differently is a damned dirty liar pants.

God of War: Spoiler: Killing the God of war, then becoming the God of war
Also, you unlock so much stuff when you do. Doco's on the making of the game, the progression the of the main character, deleted levels, as well as a clip implying there will be a sequel, and really hard challanges to unlock more stuff. |
Metal Gear Solid 3 has the best ending in recent memory.....deeply satisfying and very emotional
|
Mechwarrior 2. Spoiler: Time to go after Earth... Best game ever.
|
Derwood,
I couldn't agree more. On the skies of arcadia reference. I may not remember fully what the ending was...but hot damn, do I remember enjoying it. The ending for Mario tennis was pretty funny... |
Parasite Eve 2: Spoiler: Aya and Eve walking through the different science exhibits when the doors open and a figure walks in, it looks very familiar, and Aya raises a smile when she realizes who this person is. I personally think it is Kyle
|
I second God Of War.
And Duke Nukem 3D. When you walk in on the final boss he quips "I'm gonna rip of your head and shit down your neck!" And when you beat him, he does! |
I have to say my favorite ending is from the game..... GLADIUS..... I love the gameplay and the ending suits the game well....
|
I *love* the ending to FFX.
Spoiler: You see it coming for awhile, but it's just so heartwrenching to watch Tidus fade away and see Yuna run straight through him and fall flat on her face :( The music for the ending is equally excellent, merging multiple different motifs together to enhance the scene even more. The combination of the "Song of Prayer," "Zanarkand's Theme," and "Suteki Da Ne (The Love Theme)" brings together every primary emotional attachment into one bittersweet climax. In fact, I'm going to listen to the ending music right now. |
I agree with Redjake, the ending to MGS3 was deeply moving.
|
I'm surprised nobody even mentioned FF7 ... especially in the very last scene (a flashback to the very beginning of the game) when we realize that Aerius had seen a vision of the future including her own death ... *gasp* *sob*
|
I love the ending of FFVII, but I have to say FFX was more poignant to me, partly because the story was a bit less convoluted. Also, I apparently didn't notice what you mention.

Then I figured that FFX-2 would answer my questions, but it sucked so I never finished it. Oh, to add to the topic: FF8, FF7, Ocarina of Time, and KOTOR to name a few. |

In the very first scene of the game we see a girl (Aerius) looking at some glowing vision. When the vision fades she stares out into darkness looking surprised and saddened ... then she walks off as the camera pulls back to reveal the city. Then come the credits as the train pulls in and the story begins. Then in the very last scene before the credits (lasts about 2-3 seconds) they replay the scene of Aerius looking at the glowing vision. This time you realize that the glowing tendrils in the vision are the events of the world at the end of the story ... At that point we realize she knew everything that was going to happen ... and she had carried that secret with her throughout the entire story. It's safe to say she knew she would fall in love and that she would die ...Now we know why she was saddened by her vision - but it also makes us appreciate her resolve even more. very poingant. |
I have to agree with everyone who mentioned God of War. Most game endings just piss me off, as it isn't climactic enough. The sence of accomplishment in GOW is amazing.
|
I always loved the Orc ending to the original Warcraft for the PC. You get to see guys get chopped clean in half! Good stuff.
