which would you rather buy and why?

i'm probably going for the PS3, i've always preferred Sony and the PS3 shouldbe a very powerful system with a lot of potential. I think PS3 will come out on top. Revolution imo will suck ass, i think the controller will suck. Nintendo will fall and become just a game developer after this.

my choice: PS3

I'm likely to choose two of the three, as I have the last 2 generations. I'm getting the Revolution first. It is the only system of the three that offers something new. While I was excited about the XBox, the fact that I won't be getting it till March made it lose it's appeal. It won't be the newest hottest thing in March, and I won't care anymore. I'll get my $500 back tomorrow.

I haven't been very impressed with Sony these last few months. The PSP was a big upset for me. I don't wanna get PS3 and find out it's a movie machine first. I wish they'd dump these stupid extra features and stick to playing games like they used to. The Playstation and PS2 have some really great games. I don't want to hold their business practices against them now, but I may have to take a moral stand against them and just not buy their stuff anymore. I almost feel like because I bought a PSP, I'm defacing public property somewhere.

Voted for Revolution, it seems to be a bold move by Nintendo to radically change almost all of its components and get big names such as IBM and ATI to help them work on the Revolution, specifically the CPU and GPU respectively.

On the other hand, second place for me would be PS3 since most of the games that is set to be released for PS3 is pretty good compared to the line up for Xbox 360. I was gonna buy the 360 once it was released but when I got a closer look at what games was lining up, it was sad so to speak.

only good games i can see coming out for 360 would be Halo3 and if a MMORPG comes out for it (rumors are WoW)

ps3 has MGS4 which is enough reason to buy the system. also the new final fantasy should be phenomenal.

Revolution is guaranteed to have the most awful controller ever if the evolution of Nintendo controllers continues as it has. Gamecube's is damn near unusable. I'm sure Revolutions will have the analog stick on the back, the shoulder buttons moved to a toe-controlled system, and no A button.

Revolution is interesting but I don't like the controller. Think about it you can only play the game like a hour then you arm will get tried.

I'm getting all three system, but PS3 will probably be my favorite. Just like PS2 it has the most game I want to play.

Xbox360 only have 2 game I want. I'll probably wait till theres more games for it before I get it.

Maybe it's better that way.

I happen to like the Cube controller, its not as good as the XBox's, but it beats the PS2's controller, IMO.

You mean, the crappy controllers that found themselves imitated with minor changes? You know, the extra shoulders on the SNES finding their way to the PS1, the analogue stick and rumble of the N64 reaching the Dual Shock with a magical two sticks, the Wavebird being almost carbon copied with the 360, and so on?

I'll definitely buy all three no matter what, but I do see the PS3 "winning" the console race of the next generation as well. XBox 360 didn't make a very big splash. I'm worried about the Revolution's controller...it's really up to Nintendo and the third party developers to make use of it else it will ruin the system. If the Revolution fails, I think Nintendo might go the way of Sega the next generation. Sony made videogames cool with the PS1 and gamers will never forget that...the PS3 is in a place to hold the market with just a few must-have launch titles.

Lasereth, for one of your experience in the world of games, you should know better than to say Nintendo's fate rests upon the home console market ;).

The problem won't be a lack of support. The Cube has horrendous 3rd party support, but it's still a financial success, due in no small part to Nintendo's first and second party efforts. They have the advantage of a far larger development base than Sony or Microsoft, and an overall much higher quality in the end product. Quite a few share visual style, setting and characters, but if you think Mario Tennis is the same as Mario Strikers, you're missing the point.

They rely on the strength of the brand, not the strength of the sequels, to carry the torches. With the exception of Mario Party, Nintendo have almost no hand in direct sequels, at least, not in the same vein as most other developers. A good example is the N64 Zelda titles. Majora's Mask shared a game engine and main character with Ocarina of Time, and little else. Completely new setting, many new characters and more new game mechanics than you can shake a stick at. They certainly avoid any situation where you're forced to buy a sequel to finish the game properly (Halo 2, I'm looking at you...)

From what I've gathered, the difficulty with the Revolution won't lie with getting third parties on board. What remains to be seen is if Nintendo can market those types of games aimed at non-gamers successfully, while reminding the more mainstream gamers that there's still plenty of love left for them.

First of all the notion of playing Zelda and Mario on an X-box...or *gasp a Playstation is incredibly depressing, eh? Not that I ever think it'll happen, from what I understand Nintendo, which relies on video game sales as its primary source of income, has maintained consistent profitability on the sales of their consoles.

Second, I really think the era of 'must-have launch games' selling the console is just about over. The price tag of the 360 and the speculative price point of the PS3...well, I imagine they aren't helping. Yes, we all know the original NES was much more expensive back in the day, but the NES had the advantage of being relatively unique. People didn't seem to have a problem paying a bit extra for something as cutting edge as the NES was, eh? Plopping down $400 (the core package is a joke...) plus $60 a game for what, better graphics? High definition? It's a lot to ask even of the hardcore gamer, especially in the era of 'disposable' electronics. Sure Call of Duty 2 is pretty, but $400+ pretty?

Third, all that being said, I'll probably end up buying all three new consoles, but the Revolution is the one I'm most excited about...odd ball controller and all. Something new, something innovative to play around with. The price tag certainly is going to help even though I imagine there will be some who still look down their noses at Nintendo's offering. Those that think that the size of the engine has everything to do with enjoying the drive.

I voted revolution, because that's what I'm most looking forward to... although I already have an Xbox 360 (well, it's my roommate's). Dead or alive 4 is awesome, by the way. Most beautiful fighting game I've ever seen. I wasn't impressed with the xbox 360 until I played DOA4 and now it's pretty obvious that xbox 360 is a next-gen console. And DOA4 is kind of a launch title so it's only going to get better...

I'm looking forward to playing with the revolution controller though... there are lots of possibilities and I can't wait to see what nintendo will think up to utilize it. I am in love with my DS now because of the touch screen (and Meteos is the best puzzle game ever) and I know nintendo can think up some really creative ways to utilize their revolution controller.

Those who badmouth the revolution controller have to realise that the current controller set up reached the end of it's useful life cycle with the current generation of consoles (x-box, PS2, GC). The 360 and PS3 are using exactly the same button layouts with only minor tweeks, the evolution has ended. Even the wireless technology already exists in the GC.

Someone was going to have to take the step and completly revolutionise (no pun intented) the controller. Historically, it has been ninty leading the way. I bet you before the next gen consoles are replaced, they'll have similar copies of the revolution controller.

I spent a couple of hours in front of my TV over x-mas pretending my remote was a ninty controller in front of a movie. You'd be suprised how comfortable you can get with just using the bare amount of controller movement. The nunchuku extra will certainly make things easier. It'll also be nice and cheap, something that i doubt will ever be said of the other two.

I'm planning on buying all 3 eventually. I already own the 360 and the LIVE features blow all the other consoles out of the water.

I've never really understood why everyone gets so emotionally attached to consoles themselves, its the games that make them fun to play. So, whoever has the most kickass games will win.

XBox 360 if Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is exclusive and the pc version is as inferior as the pc Morrowind.
Otherwise I will get a PS3 or even (finally) PS2, depending on which old games are still playable on the PS3.

Imma prolly get the PS3 and Revo.. just cuz the Revo looks just so damn fun... and looks like it'll be comin in at under 200.. rumors of maybe even 100! :D.. then i'd just have to buy since one next gen game is 60 bucks anyways.. hehe..

PS3 looks very impressive.. and Sony's been very jealous of the LIVE system that xbox has.. they'll prolly bring out a very similar product.. maybe even movie trailers and music downloads too, since Sony has such a broad market control over music and movies...

XBox?.. bleh.. I never really liked playing FPS' on consoles (cant turn around fast enough) ... So i guess Halo3 doesnt really sell the system for me... any other games i should be looking out for on the 360?.. oOo yea.. that new RPG that the guy who left Square is making? Blue Dragon or something?.. that sounds cool..

but for the MGS' and FF's i'll go PS3.. and then the budget Revo for my mario and Zelda fix! cmon. you KNOW Smash Bros. 3? will be fun :D and Mario Party 17 will be fun too.. I just hope they have a solid Mario game for launch.. not his gimp brother vacuuming..

i voted for the PS3, but the Revolution seems amazing. I will definitely get both but not a 360, ever.

Oh and the only controller Nintendo has made that I did not like is the N64 controller. The Gamecube is flawless in my opinion. And the Revolution controller looks way better than the PS3 or 360 controllers. Oh and rumor has that the Revolution will have slots for Gamecube controllers.

Sidenote: imho, the wavebird is the finest controller to date. the xbox360 pad is nice, but i haven't had enough time w/it to get attached.

When the revolution comes, the 360 and PS3 will be the first against the wall, and Nintendo will be pointing the gun(in this case Supah sweet new controler)

My own take on this...
It seems like where videogames are headed is inevitable. I guess the trend will stay as faster, prettier, and bigger, without really breaking the paradigm of button stick connected to a big box. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, though. Thats what videogames are all about.

Heightened interactivity through things like DDR pads, DK bongos, and light guns is a step in a new direction, that conflicts with the goal of faster, bigger, and prettier. I think, though, that creativity in this field is essential, though possibly ahead of its time (in terms of revolution) and that the technology for prettier games will just naturally get better. Technology progresses, right?

With that said, I want me a PS3! It looks so slick and wow... MGS4... thats awesome.

My philosophy, ever since ColecoVision, has always been I don't buy systems just to buy systems, I buy them because of the games they have and/or the ones that are coming. Technical specs are like mental masturbation for geeks and certainly cannon fodder for fanboys/girls, but they don't necessarily produce the best gaming experience. Save for the X-box 360, since it's actually on the market, most of us are responding to potential: tech demos, technical specs, company track records, nostalgia, etc. I have been far too disappointed at potential in my life to use it as a gauge for which system to buy. If Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo can deliver the gaming experience I covet, then that's the direction in which I will go.

I'm most interested in the PS3, not because I think it'll be the most interesting or innovative gaming system (that, without a doubt, will be the Revolution) but because it's the most utilitarian of the 3. According to the marketing chaff that sony has been spitting out the PS3 will have a Blue-Ray player and a hard drive that comes with Linux pre-installed. There are a lot of possibilities there - who knows what the mod community will come up with if they don't have to fight the hardware to get an OS installed on the system. Also, the Blue-Ray player means that you get HD videos for less than you can elsewhere.

Depending on how things go with the Revolution I might get it, but it's much more of a "pure" gaming system (not that there's anything wrong with that). If I'm going to take up space in my house, I would rather the thing taking up the space isn't just for games.

I buy systems for the games. At this point in time that leaves me with the PS3 and/or the Revolution. While I might not know what the PS3 will have I know that I can play my all of old favorites on it unlike the 360. As far as Nintendo, I'm sure they'll come out with more fun party style games in the Mario Kart tradition.

Revolution and XBox 360 for me. I tend to enjoy my gamecube the most for its multiplayer library, and my XBox for games like Halo.

With a footprint the size of a DVD case, you'll hardly lose out on space with the Rev ;)

I would purchase it for the RPG's available to the console. I have been a great fan of the XBOX so far, but they do not excel in the Role Playing genre. They do however excel in the sports genre. Now however, with the PS3 coming out, the hard drive option should help in the storing and running of sports titles. Between the 3 I think that the PS Dual Shock controller is the best designed so far.
