Starforce Boycott website.

Check out this website, it's dedicated to fighting starforce and its immoral infringement on our rights.

there are a lot of details on the site, so i won't paste them all here, click to view them in original form.

Why are we boycotting it?

Starforce has received criticism for installing its own device driver onto computers. The Starforce drivers are often linked to system instability and computer crashes. If these problems occur, the end-user would be unware as to the cause of the problem, and would be helpless to solve the problem.

Moreover, the Starforce drivers, installed on your system, grant ring 0 (system level) privileges to any code under the ring 3 (user level) privileges. Thus, any virus or trojan can get OS privileges and totally control your system. Since Windows 2000, the Windows line security and stability got enhanced by separating those privileges, but with the Starforce drivers, the old system holes and instabilities are back and any program (or virus) can reach the core of your system by using the Starforce drivers as a backdoor.

you could look at the link i posted instead of asking me... it's a cd copy protection system which installs drivers on your computer and is known to conflict with certain users' hardware configurations as well as using unethical anti-competative blacklisting techniques against LEGAL and LEGITIMATE Optical drive emulation software.

I personally have a large harddrive and I hate changing CD's ( thus the large HDD ) and it is a pain in the neck to keep changing them. I rip my own legal CDs to play on my own computer for my own enjoyment. I hate companies that try to make that harder on me. It is a game and meant to be enjoyed, not to be toiled with. I agree that I won't use starforce software. I won't buy there games, nor even bother playing their demos. Hopefully there will be enough gamers to take this approach and let them use other forms of copy protection.

Welcome to 2006, you *must* switch your CD to play your games.

I too dislike changing CD's. I agree. Why do these companies go out of their way to stop you from copying something that you bought with your own money? Putting your system at risk. I would imagine that the majority of gamers invest a lot of money in to their PC's, and yes, let's hope enough of us can be heard and put an end to these fascist taticts.

Also, I too am member at the http://www.glop.org/starforce/ site.

i'd also like to mention that no one can tell you that it's illegal to rip/burn/backup your own cds as long as you don't commercially redistribute them.

[i love how it's mostly people who belong to the site posting in this thread]
