GTA: Liberty City Stories
I'm really surprised that there isn't a thread about this yet.
So, either tomorrow or tuesday, the latest installment of the GTA series is coming out exclusively to PSP. I, for one, have already put 5 down. I don't even have my PSP yet, and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Now a little bit about the game itself: -Takes place in a larger version of Liberty City then that of GTA3 -It's in 1998 -7 multiplayer modes -Tons of other stuff that my fellow TFPers can contribute to the thread, since I have writers block... So who else is excited? And who's gonna get it? |
I lost interest when I heard it wasn't free roaming, and was mission/level based. That still the case?
|
Not at all. It's completely free roaming, like it's predessors(sp?).
Actually, I was reading some of the side missions just now. There's the Police/Ambulance/Firetruck missions like in GTA:SA, and these others: Quote:

The series is getting boring though. It's all the same. Sure bigger levels and different cars, but when none of the cars drives anything like a real car, that doesn't matter as much. There's no significant difference between 3 and San Andreas, and adding more "run here and pick up the token" missions isn't gonna help the series any.
|
Yeah, I agree it's all the same, but this is the only GTA on PSP. And it's arguably the biggest PSP game, map wise. I think that's a milestone in it's self.
I just think it'll be great, you're commuting, and you get caught up in traffic, BAM, whip out the PSP and take out some road rage on the other drivers in the game. |
I'm all kinds of excited about this game. I pre-ordered and paid for it when I pre-ordered my PSP in like March. It's about God damned time it came out!!
Honestly, I don't care about it being the same or close to the same as the others, so long as I can play it on my PSP where ever I go. That'll be sweet! They could've re-released San Andreas for the PSP and I'd have made the buy. |
Damn. It's getting good reviews and I don't have a PSP. Of course now all of the good DS and PSP games are starting to come out when I don't have any money at all. :(

I hear ya, Las...
I'm happy with Lumines, no matter how much it cramps up my hands. Now to get a hold of a DS to play Meteos... I think I have a brick fetish, I have my GameBoy Pocket with Tetris sitting in front of my TV... |
Alright, so I got the game and it's spectacular! Easily the best game I've played on PSP! Load times are decent, graphics are great, it sounds amazing all around! It's everything I was hoping for!
My only complaint: custom soundtracks?? It has the option in the audio menu, but for some reason it says "unavailable". I'd really, really like to know what the deal with it is, whether it's something to be fixed, unlocked, or what... I just want to know for sure. I've read LOADS of speculation about completing some mission for Donald Love opening it, and something about it being fixed by a patch or some such shit, but nothing concrete. I can't find anything on the official site, or anywhere on Rockstar's site. Anyone know anything for sure? |
Bah, Thanks alot, I hate you guys ;) Now I want to get it!
But i must save money.. argg... Ill Tell you in the next couple of days if I get it/going to get it.. But I want it I do got a PSP, and 2 Games and 2 Movies, I think I need to widen my collection |

Anyway, if you care, there you go. |
my biggest problem with SA was too much exposition.
you could do anything. the greatest thing about GTA3 and even VC to an extent was pushing the limits of the engine. "can i get on that roof?" "can i jump over that?" "how do i go there?" "can i do this!?" etc etc |
what version of the firmware does it need?
|
The UMD comes with firmware 2.0 so I assume that is the required firmware to play it. I picked it up a few days ago but haven't had a whole lot of time to explore Liberty City. So far it seems like it's going to a really fun game and I'm surprised at just how well they managed to basically convert everything about GTA III into a PSP version of GTA, it's quite amazing.
|
What does it play like though, more like 3 VC or SA?
i understand it has elements of SA but graphically looks similar to 3. |
what's the soundtrack like?
|
Okay, here we go, my pros and cons.
Pros: -Cars really are shiny. -The controls are translated well onto the PSP -Loading times are pretty quick, about 20 seconds to actually load the game, 5-10 seconds for the mission/cutscene to start -Minigun. -And many many more Cons: -Game kinda freezes every now and then for about 2 seconds -Some of the missions are just Toni talking to an apartment window, or to a closet. -Cars too shiny. -Not alot of clothing choices -The whole custom soundtrack bullshit. Like how they didn't put it in, then R* releases a program that lets you put music on, but so long as it's purchased music from a cd, not downloaded music. -And alot of other stuff that I can't think of now. Overall, I really like the game. Um, Q&A? I'll try and answer your questions as best as I can. |
