Half Life 2/Steam loading?
 

I'm reinstalling Half-Life 2 on my computer after a crash caused by my university's computer scanning, and now when I install Half-Life 2 and steam I have to "Update Half-Life 2" and it's taking about 20 hours to update it.

Is this normal?

I'm pretty bummed/pissed because this is my one free afternoon that I can really just sit down and blow stuff away, but now my dreams of spending 15-20 minutes installing the game then going at it are now dashed by this 20 hour update.

Are you installing via Steam or just updating? When I originally installed the game via Steam it took a while to finish (I let it run overnight).

I installed off of my DVD then when I tried to load the game it said it had to update it and it's taking something close to 20 hours to do.

Ain't Steam grand?

DoD just came out, I think it might be causing some heavy server usage with people downloading the entire game off the net.

Yeah, there have been tons of updates to HL, Steam, and Source. So there is a ton of shit to download, and add to that steam's general slowness and DoD... Yeah, prolly gonna take a while. Leave it overnight or something.
