I played B&W 1.
It was a really decent concept, but the game's mechanics lacked in some (irritating) areas, mostly concerning teaching your creature and keeping it in check.
Supposedly B&W 2 should correct those things and actually be the game the first B&W should've been. I'm not looking forward to it as much as B&W 1, but I think I'll pick it up some time.

I feel about the same as Silvy, I played B&W 1, and I liked it. When I had read about it before getting it, the game's concept was really interesting, and I imagined it would be really neat, but it did have some issues that I didn't like, namely with the creature. I could make it do what I wanted, but it was very difficult much of the time.

Hopefully B&W 2 is better in that area, and if it is, it'll probably be a pretty sweet game, I'm definitely going to look into it, and probably end up buying it.

I agree with Silvy. B&W was compelling but ultimately frustrating. If 2 fixes the issues as it's supposed to, it will be a brilliant and enjoyable game.

make sure u download the new patch before starting, because the old saved games don't work with the new patch 0.o

I love how they released the 1.1 patch before the game even hit the stores. That gives me a very warm and fuzzy feeling inside about the quality of the game.

What, woudl you rather they leave the game for dead like most developers do?

I'd be willing to bet that Lionhead was forced to release the game to be sold before they felt it was complete. Typical of games today.

The fact that they have a patch ready for fixes before its even ready at least shows they care.

I'm curious, do they still have a Tutorial that you cannot skip that takes what feels like DAYS to complete?

The patch lets you skip the tutorial, apparently. And no, I'm glad that they released a patch - it's just a sign that their publisher sucks that the game was forced out.

Game publishers are too focused on the bottom line when they should be letting their developers have the resources they need to make good video games. I've got a few friends in the game industry (some up in Washington, some in England) and the general concensus is that the dev team and the publishers don't always see eye to eye on a lot of things, and especially don't get along.

Unfortunately, I don't really see a solution to that problem, as unless a developer gets large enough to support publishing their own stuff, they'll need to rely on someone else for money - and that means that someone else gets to push them towards a release as fast as possible.

the patch only really lets u skip the part of the tutorial that teaches u how to move, and i think the developers said they are expecting more patches to be released

I attempted to download this, but it wasn't really working. I really wish I had the money to buy this. I loved Black & White 1 even though, yeah, it was pretty frustrating.

Exactly right. The publisher is EA, who ends up pulling all their underhanded tricks. It'll probably be yet another game that I won't be able to install on my system. Fuckers.

The addendum to that is that the publisher is usually being pushed around by the distributors because of limited shelf space.

Well I'll write this from the perspective of some one who played B&W1.

The second instalment has it's improvements but overall there are more new bugs then fixes.

The creature interaction has been dumbed down to a point where it's no fun anymore. In the first game creature training was very hard and frusturating but gave you wonderful results if you put time into it. In this game its very basic. Everytime the creature does something you get a slider bar that allows you to set that action for "never do it" to "do it as much as you can".

At the moment the creatue AI is frusturating and it suffers from ADD constantly jumping from one task to another. There also seems to be very little veriety in the number of things a creature can do.

Where the game improved is city building. Your vilager AI improved tremendasly. The town can actually take care of it self now. There are more Good and Evil building options and more buildings in general.

There have been some embelishments to the RTS side of the game. You get melee and archer units as well as seige weapons. It's still very basic though. No strategy really.

The computer AI doesnt exist. Everything is scripted. At times the computer will actually respond but most of the time it does nothing. I had a creature walk into the middle of it's town and begin to destroy buildings while six of it's platoon just stood there.

Over all. 6.5/10.

Cheers.
