Burnout Revenge
Burnout Revenge is coming out this September!! Me and my brother are STILL playing Burnout 3: Takedown on XBox from last year. We bought it in September and haven't stopped playing it since. The new Road Rage feature in Burnout 3 made it a blast. Good news: Burnout Revenge is based ENTIRELY around the Road Rage/taking out part of the game! I can't wait for this game.
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/626/626673p1.html Here's some videos (WOW!!): http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/708/708573/vids_1.html Anyone else looking forward to this? -Lasereth |
I played this last Tuesday at an evening with EA (EA Play), it felt pretty much exactly like Takedown though it looked a little nicer. There didn't seem to be much difference.
But then again I was too busy playing Battlefield 2. |
I thought Revenge was just Burnout 3 for the PSP?
idk, maybe it'll be both |
oh man.. i saw the vids on ign and they are sWEEt!! the crash mode loooks way more awesome and the trafic is gonna be to your advantage(crash in them and they move without you crashing)... so you can push em to cause takedowns!!! wooo... i just hope the multiplayer (splitscreen) is more customizable. i want to pick if theres 10 or more takedowns in a race. will be checking out this game alot more in the summer!!

FFS, they better bring this out on the GC, i was SCREWING when i realised they wouldn't release takedown on the GC. Burnout gets better with each incarnation, i really would hate not to be able to play the newest one again.
|
Word up, stevie. Even though Burnout got more sales on GC than on PS2, they couldn't come up with a better excuse than 'the GC isn't online'. Never mind the fact that online console players are about 10% of the market. Fucking EA.
|
yes i can't wait
i soooo enjoyed burnout 3 |
That is a buyer for XBOX:)
|
I have 50 hours on my Burnout 3 file, and 20 hours of my own time on my old roomate's x-box. 70 hours total I guess. that game has so much replay value.
|
Not much replay for me...I beat it once and that was enough!

I suggest going to Single Event, choosing a random track, choosing a Super car, and playing your heart out. You might get hooked again :) |
Well i got something like 40 hours....thats all i did was takedown...got repeative
|
Is it just me or does this seem too early? I mean, Burnout 3 came out less than a year ago and it's still fun. Don't get me wrong, I love sequels and I'm sure this game will be awesome, but I'll probably wait for this to hit the bargain bin before I get around to it.

Then is saves you money! |
The Burnout series are the only games I have ever bought on the day they were released and this one is going to be no different!
Personally, Burnout 3 is my all time favourite game (on console anyway) |

Burnout Revenge is almost out!!! Me and my suitemates have started playing Burnout 3 again. Damn, that game has SO much replay value. My brother beat his old record recently with 56 takedowns in one Road Rage course. I can't wait for the next one. The videos I've seen are insane.

Hmm, I can see this game being EA-ified, I think. Looking more at this game all it appears to really add to the gameplay is the ability to blow oneself up (which was present in the last game's crash mode) during normal races. Enough to warrent a new release and it being touted as a new feature?

I'm still standing by my statement that it's too soon for a sequel. Though I have to stay away from all the clips and images of the game or my opinion may change...

I played the Xbox demo for this yesterday, and have to say I love it. I put in a ton of hours on Burnout 3, so I'm already a big fan.
Revenge has a different feel when driving, I think they revamped the physics system in a lot of ways to take the weight of the car into account. It felt heavier, and was easier to drift through corners at very high speeds. Also, being able to push around some of the other cars on the road makes gameplay very different, and the one course on the demo has multiple ways through it. In a street race, that only seems right. I will definitely be picking this up when it comes out. |
Psssst... if you have Madden 2006, it has the Burnout Revenge demo in it :) (I know it's in the PS2 version, dunno bout the XBox version)
|
IGN gave it an 8.9. I figured the ability to ram traffic out of the way would hurt the series, and that's basically what the reviewers are saying. It's too easy!! Burnout 3 was all about dodging traffic at breakneck speeds. Now you can just plow through it, and apparently later on the game is simply too damned easy. I'll probably rent it first since one of my favorite aspects of Burnout 3 was dodging traffic.

So being able to non-lethally interact with the traffic is a bad thing then? I always found it odd how you could bump and grind with the other racers but the slightest tap from a non-racer would destroy your car. Guess I'll have to play the game and just find out for myself.

I'm 50/50 on this one now. I think I might just buy Burnout 3 again...

Indeed. It was extremely awesome and such an adrenaline rush to make 3 full laps with the F-1 wannabe without hitting a single thing. In front of an audience, too. I looked so awesome.
|
I was going to buy this on release but I believe I'm going to rent it now for the "crush traffic out of the way" thing. I thoroughly enjoyed weaving in and out of traffic, and the rush you get when you make it between two cars or 4 rows of 2 cars is great. It was also a blast to just anal rape a car or have a massive head on collision on accident. I enjoyed it.
|
I'm comtemplating about buying this game. I think I'm going to rent it first, or let a friend buy it and borrow it from him/her :P Heh. I know I'm cheap.

(I was going to make this a generic thread about any games with annoying menus, but as I was typing it I noticed that burnout was guilty of all the things I was going to talk about so I just made it about BO:Revenge instead.)
I've been playing Burnout Revenge the last few days and it's menus arent very good. It's doesn't have the worst menus I've seen but it does have alot of small things wrong with it. I'd like to point out that these problems might seem silly and umimportant but after playing the game 10 hours or more you notice them more and more and you don't want to spend another second sorting through the menus, you just want to race. First of all, there's no single race mode. If you just want a regular race you have to go to career mode, choose a rank and dig through all diferent kinds of game modes to find the specific kind of race you want. Multiplayer isnt so bad about this so you can always buy a friend or two to enable that mode. Multiplayer isnt exactly flawless though, It gives you a nice simple list of race and crash modes, but every time you do a race you get sent back to the main menu, where you have to goto multiplayer again, the other players each have to press start on their controllers so you're always waiting on the guy pickin his nose to hit the damn button, you gotta select the race type again, and finally select your cars. Now, this takes about a minute(unless he's got a nice booger up there), and an average crash battle takes about 30 seconds so you're spending twice the amount of time working the menu as you are controlling your vehicle. It'd be so much faster if after a race it took you right back to the select track screen, or even better if it gave an option to goto a random track straight from the last one. There's some really cool races in the game, and there's no doubt that you'll want to go back and play your favorite one with friends. Well, goodluck finding it. There's something like 80 different crash locations but they're sorted by names like "Streetcar Set on Fire" and "Mount Crushmore" and there's no mini-screenshots of the locations to give you any idea which course you'll actually be playing. So if you like a location, write it's name down because if you don't you'll never find it again. I seem to talk about crash mode alot, probably because I have the attention span of a flea and they're fast, but there's one more thing annoying about crash mode. When you screw up(I do alot) and hit retry the camera goes in reverse all the way from where you wrecked back to the start and causes and extra 20second wait just to retry a wreck that doesnt take 20 seconds to do in the first place. Another thing is the auto-save feature, sure almost all games do it but it's still annoying as hell racing for only 2 minutes and adding 30 seconds of saving on top of the already tedious menu system. No one needs to auto save after every race. Why can't autosave disable itself for 20 minutes before autosaving again. If you gotta quit sometime between the autosaves, do it manually, it takes about 2 seconds longer than an autosave but saves alot more time than that in the long run. Now, I think Burnout Revenge is a great game but the races are short and cant even be increased. A 2 lap race takes less than 3 minutes on most tracks, if it could be increased to 5-10 laps I probably wouldn't even notice the time it takes to navigate the menu. A roadrage race to 10 takedowns is almost instant on multiplayer, so restarting it over and over it annoying, especially if you want to play a different board. Like I said at the start of the thread, the menus aren't the worst. The thing is that they do ALOT of very tiny annoyances that just make the menu system tedious. Well.. back to playing.. |
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the menu (or I guess GUI) of the game is pretty poor. But the most annoying thing in the game for me is all the "rolling" sound effects that happen after you win the race and it's telling you what medal you got, what place you got, what awards you got, etc etc. Everything that scrolls by in that after-race screen has a sound effect and after awhile you get quite annoyed from it.
The replay value in here isn't as great as it is in previous Burnouts, IMO, pretty much for the reasons people listed before - now you can just plow through same-direction traffic without avoiding them. There's significantly less skill involved here now. |
