Guitar Hero 2: Man, am I bad at that game. It seems like it could be fun for a while once I got good, and then I would get bored. The Buckethead song is insane.
Gears of War: As far as I can tell the only way to play this game is co-op; single player seems like a waste when you can play with a friend. A total blast. |
Four more...
Dead Rising - A relatively good game; it certainly does justice to the genre, but it gets old really, really quick. It's pretty satisfying to beat down some zombie with a baseball bat or run them over with a lawn mower, but after endless hours traipsing back and forth across the enormous and difficult to navigate mega-mall...well, you get tired of it. And saving people...forget it. The AI is horrible. The save system sucks hard as well. If you must play it, rent it. Gears of War - This game is awesome. Kadath is right, play it with a friend. Hands down one of the better games I've played this year. It's not all that innovative and you won't overwhelmed with new stuff, but it doesn't matter; the game plays that well. If you have a 360 there is absolutely no reason not to have this game. Period. Superman Returns - Good idea, but man, what a learning curve. "Oh my god! you didn't make the 87 mile journey across town to blow out that fire in less than 2 seconds....tsk tsk tsk..you suck, Supes. Time to penalize you." They give you this amazingly cool city to fly around and pretty tight flight mechanics and not one moment just to cruise around and enjoy them. Not to mention the uber-wooden voice acting of Mr. Routh. You thought he was bad in the movie playing the Man of Steel? Rent this game and fall asleep to the soothing sounds of his marvelous monotone. Twilight Princess - A very good game. It won't blow you away graphically (even with the better cables and widescreen presentation), but the gameplay will knock your socks off. It's amazing to me that despite 15 some odd years of Zelda games, they're still delivering fantastic games like this. Same old tools of the trade, same Link vs. Gannon to save Zelda storyline, but better with every incarnation. I hear the gamecube version is just as good, but if you can play it on the Wii. So much more satisfying to pull out the Master Sword and smack something with the Wii-mote |
Wii Sports - Tennis. I had a few friends over for New Years Eve before we went out and one of them was nice enough to bring his Wii along. Four player tennis is AWESOME. The game was simple enough that even though most of the people at the party had never played before everyone could pick it up and play fairly quickly.
I dont know how good the single player is but as a party game its great. |
If you like more RPG or Strategy style gaming I would suggest NWN 2...it was a bit buggy at first but the patches they have put out have corrected alot of problems. And as far as strategy goes, Medieval Total War II is good old fashioned world conquering fun.

ya Katamari damacy is a great little game. have you tried "We Love Katamari"? i'm waiting to find it at 10$ or less to try it out cuz it looked the same. |

I'm excited because I got Shadow of the Colosus (sp?) for Christmas. Ico was such a great game that I have high expectations.

I just beat Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Subsistence. WOW!!!!!!!!! This game was unbelievable. Truly one of the best games ever made. I never played it through on my regular MGS3 disc so I bought Subsistence with a gift card I got. One of the best purchases ever. The story, the boss fights, the voice acting, the AMAZING graphics...everything about the game is so over the top incredible. 10/10
|
Shadow of the Colossus for PS2 -- 9.5/10
Holy SHIT. What a surprise!!! My GF bought me this game a few days ago and I just beat it. If you own a PS2 and haven't played this game, GO BUY IT!! It's only $20 brand new. I've never played a game like this before, and I've played a LOT of videogames. It really does transcend videogaming and go to a new level...a new experience. The art style in this game is unrivaled. Never before has any videogame had fights like these. |
Far Cry Vengance - 7/10 (wii)
The only way i can describe this game is shady as fuck. There are moments where you attack an enemy, go past him, can't turn round because of the control system, and are butchered to death without knowing where the hell your being attacked from. Having the flick the nunchuk to jump is a pain, because if you jerk suddenly your guy flies into the air and off a cliff. However, saying that, there is nothing quite as satisfying as nailing someone through a 10x zoom the otherside of a valley in the head with a sniper rifle that makes a huge boom. Or sneaking up behind someone and putting a machete through their back. The graphics are not great, but i'm used to previous ninty games, so not that annoyed, but they can be a little odd when moving back 1 foot on a roof will allow you to zoom across an entire level, but moving forward will cover everything in grey fog. Annoying as hell sometimes, fun as hell in others, just don't expect too much and you won't be dissapointed. |
Wii Sports is great fun! :D
Also got Wii Play with the second Wiimote, it's alright (Laser Hockey rocks! As does the tank minigame). About half of the games are a bit too simple, IMO. Still, worth the extra money on top of the controller :D And I got myself Zelda too, of course :) Not too far in yet... Edit: Downloaded Gunstar Heroes today (800 points), well worth the price! Played through it with a friend on co-op - not a bad alternative to renting a movie :) |
So I ordered Rainbow Six: Vegas for PC and downloaded it. I gotta say that its pretty sweet. The AI could use some help, as I was able to find various rally points to aim at and mow down lines of enemies. The story that goes along with the game keeps you *sorta* interested. I just enjoy the style of action. It took me 3 days to complete on "Normal" which might be a little of the short side. I guess I sorta expected it out of a series that churns out title after title.
Overall? Well the game cost $50, and I think it was worth $35. So that would equate to 7/10. |
Downloaded Super Probotector (Contra III) for the Virtual Console - Man, the Hard setting is kicking my ass! Great game, though, recommended! (when it gets to the US VC)
|
Hard setting has been raping me in the ass :(
Completed Zelda for Wii! Bit anti-climatic ending (which Zelda game doesn't have one?), but parts of the boss fight were really cool :D Worth the buy! |
Zelda for the Wii. I haven't played a video game in 3+ years and this game is amazing.
|
Quote:
Downloaded Bomberman '93 for the Virtual Console, and had four friends over - 5-player is a blast, recommended! Can be done with any combination of Gamecube pads (hold down R as the game boots up, and you'll get a screen showing which controllers are assigned to which players) and Wii Remotes :) |
I picked up Final Fantasy XII a couple of weeks ago--I know, I know...I am waaay behind on this one.
With a handful of FF games under my belt, I would have to say, this is the best. No mushy melodramatic love story, no flippy, far-out philosophical bent, just a really good story involving royal intrigue, politics and world domination. 8/10. Points off for the stupid license system and the amount of level grinding I've had to do in order to progress. |
Picked up Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition recently and Virgil kicks some serious ass. The difficulty level doesn't seem like it's changed much as it's still pretty hard, but I didn't find the original DMC3 to be that hard in the first place. Also picked up WoW's expansion The Burning Crusade, and it has been a blast as well.
|
I just recently got Wario Ware: Smooth Moves.
Overall, I don't regret making the purchase. That's my rating system... do I regret buying it or not? The single player is really short, you can beat the game within the first hour or so of playing, but every level in the single player has different minigames, and a random chance of hitting certain minigames in each stage. So even though you played through wario's level, there is a chance you haven't played all of the minigames that wario's level has to offer. So, there is some replayability there, trying to find and unlock all of the little minigames it has to offer. The single player also has some levels that specialize in one minigame and have tons of stages within that one minigame, but these particular levels aren't involved in finishing the game and are basically just there for killing time. Which is what video games are for in the first place, right? The multiplayer is fun, but a little disappointing at first. It seems that wario ware only allows one controller to be used at a time, so all of the multiplayer games require taking turns (passing the wiimote back and forth) or, (and this is awesome) allows you to plug in the nunchuck and one player uses the nunchuck while one uses the wiimote. There are only a couple multiplayer wiimote+nunchuck games, but they are really fun and easy for anybody to learn and enjoy. The taking turns thing turned me off at first, but it kind of gives the game that "board game" feeling, but instead of passing around a pair of dice, you're passing around a wiimote. It allows you to get a ton of people playing at once too, given they're all taking turns. It really could be the ultimate party or drinking (or both) game. |
Did I mention I downloaded Zelda II for the Wii Virtual Console? Great nostalgia trip, but I think I'm downloading too many games that are ass-raping me... I'll just have to keep playing, and rape them back! :P
|
bought myseld deus ex and star wars:dark forces 2
just need a comp toplay them on now |
Quote:
It's a very fun and unique game! I've already beat it, but I have to go back through and see if I can get all the presents, and make the stars as bright as I can. Has anyone here played the PSP version? If so, is it worth the purchase? I could see blowing some time playing that while in a waiting room somewhere, or on a lunch break, etc... |
Hotel Dusk for DS. Its a point and click mystery thats like an interactive book. One of the best games I've ever played. Riveting
Look into it |
My last rental turned purchase is Viva Pinata. This game is...fun.
I love setting up gardens and attracting pinatas...I don't know why. I only have two complaints with the game: the first are those stupid minigames when the pinatas "romance," the second are the roaming bad guys. As if I don't have enough to worry about with the gardening and making sure the pinatas are getting along, I should worry about sour-crows and beggars? Other than that though....great game. |
I still can't believe that no one here is playing War Rock! It's a free to download, free to register, free to play, online MP FPS. You can drive everything from motorcycles to tanks to F-16's and upgrade your weapons for free. There are huge maps, and did I mention that it's free? You can buy a premium membership, which allows you to upgrade your weapons to really cool things like mini-guns, but when I'm laying flat on a rooftop, my free sniper rifle takes down guys like that, no problem. Check it out: www.warrock.net
|
Soldat
this is exactly like UT or quake but in 2d! you pick your maps, the # of bots or start a real server or join an existing server. theres 6game styles from deathmatch to capturetheflag and a great mode called "rambo" where you get a bow somewhere on the map. the person carrying it has regenerating health and is the only one to score points when he kills. but everyone is against you if you have the bow. it's a great mode. the only downside is the graphics cannot be updated because it would give you a too long view range. 8.5/10 Quote:

Just bought a 360 yesterday.
Bought Gears of War, Need for Speed:Carbon yesterday, and Crackdown today. Gears of War is mainly for the coop/online fun, but it excels perfectly at that. Need for Speed is excellent because I'm a fan of the NFS games, I love customizing cars, and i got to pick to affiliate myself with the muscle group from the beginning. Go 67 Camaro SS! And Crackdown so far has ruined my day, I bought it at 1 and didn't put it down till around 7 or so. It's so simple and so addictive. Plus you get the free invite to the Halo 3 Beta when it comes out. I say, buy them all! |
Finishing up Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the DS
Really fun game if you like the whole side scrolling, vampire killing genre. |
just a heads up for anyone: if you get God Of War 2, please make a little review here!! i'd love to know how that is when it's out! (i'll have to wait a bit...)
|
i know, i know it's like 9 days in advance, butttt
GOD OF FREAKIN WAR 2! Game will dominate, mark my words! |
I just downloaded the Command & Conquer 3 demo.
Hope I can find a system around here that'll play it. If so I'll let you know how it goes... |
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
I know it's old, but I'm lazy about getting around to playing games. Very enjoyable and pretty, though sometimes the puzzles are frustrating. |
I recently played Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. They were alright, but did not at all live up to my expectations (a lot of people told me they were amazing, fantastic games and they just seem average to me). Incidentally, does anyone know if the guy from Shadow of the Colossus is supposed to be Ico or not? I can't tell and I don't think the game ever mentioned his name:confused: I'm playing Primal at the moment and it's pretty good so far :)
|
It's a spiritual prequel. Ico is a descendant of the guy in the game. Somewhat.
|
Recently bought/played: Quake 4, Doom 3. These games are all much the same to me. You start at the start and end at the end.
You are the mega-hero, and Earths only hope for salvation. Lucky for Earth you've got the largest pair of nuts ever to hang off a mammal, or we'd all be zombies/robots/luncheon meat - whatever the latest threat turns us into. Despite my seemingly negative attitude, I do like playing these games and they keep me amused for a while. |
Just started playing Titan Quest, seems decent so far, but it hasn't sucked me in fully like a lot of other games do.
|
Downloaded Kid Icarus on the Virtual Console for 5€. Great buy, fun old-school game :D And the save state-feature totally negates the need for writing down passwords! w00t! Not as hard as people make it out to be, though.
|
Borrowed Twilight Princess from my friend. Hope I like to it more once I get into it.
|
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on PS3. I like Tekken and, for $20, it's even better.
My favorite fighting game still has to be Rumble Roses XX, though .... for obvious reasons. |
I may be a little late to the Gears of War party, but I just got it and WOW. What a game! I'm also playing college hoops and battlestations midway on the 360. All great games in my opinion.
|
Finished Twilight Princess. Fun, but easy. It looks like I'm going to have to upgrade my PC or buy a new system for my next game...
|
Just recently got S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl. It's an interesting game, jury is still out. I haven't had the time recently to get past the first hour into it, but graphically it's pretty nice (though randomly slows down on my machine, which it shouldn't do).
The story is definitely one of the best I've seen in a while in a FPS, so I'd say it would be worth picking up if you're looking for more than a fast paced action game. |
i just bought supreme commander for the pc.
its a rts game. i've only played a little bit but its pretty good. there's a couple things about it that i dont like but overall decent game. i like it better than company of heroes (the last rts i bought) |
WarioWare: Smooth Moves for the Wii. All I can say is, holy crap this game is the most fun I've had playing a video game for a long time.
|
God of War 2 for the PS2. Game is absolutely fuckin amazing. If you haven't played God of War 1 or 2 and have a PS2 I suggest you go buy or rent them asap. They are 2 of the best games to ever grace the console and genre.
|
god of war ii
I played at my friends place last night. I love it! Graphics and gameply great and the cut scenes when you execute the combos correctly. We got past the Icarus fight. wow. amazing moments throughout.
|
I just bought FF3 for the DS. I'm kinda disappointed. It seems they changed a whole lot about the game. Changed and renamed classes, rebalanced, and a bunch of other things. The 3d-ification of the game was my biggest problem. I dunno...it just seems to have lost some of its character because of it. What do you all think? Anyone played the original on rom or back when it was new to the NES?
|
Just resubscribed FFXI... which means I'm going to remain single for at least the next few months.
|
Dragged my Dreamcast out of the closet. Playing some Record of Lodoss War right now; when I beat that again I'm going to play through Shenmue 1 and 2 again.
|
Just beat God of War II, fun game but once you beat I see no reason to play it again. Replaying Knights of the Old Republic(for the 4th time) on my xbox now.
|
Quote:
I miss Shenmue :( I wish Sega would make a Shenmue for Wii... so much potential, but I KNOW they won't do it, the game just didn't do well enough. |
God of War 2
and yes, I am waiting on Pokemon Diamond in April for the DS |
I'm currently playing STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. It's a lot of fun, sort of a mix of between Oblivion and FEAR. I'm loving the AI, enemy stalkers will flank you and use cover intelligently and packs of wild dogs and boars will attack you but run away when you kill or wound most of them.
|
Just picked up Command and Conquer 3 this evening, having a hard time deciding between it and STALKER - though at the moment, C&C is winning out. The fact that the 1.00000(...)001 patch for STALKER broke all previous save games is the deciding factor at the moment.
|
I'm thinking about getting resistance fall of man on PS3, has anyone played it? I'm not keen by going purely on what ive seen on the official site but it does make it look so damn good. ( http://www.resistancefallofman.com/ if you're interested)
actually if anyone can recommend any game for ps3 it would be very much appreciated! or if you can comment on resistance that would also be useful! cheers! |
Quote:
How is C&C 3 I'm thinking about getting it I have all the other C&C's. RA2 and Yuri's revenge are my all time favorite games. I just go and do skirmishes now because I've played the full games so much they don't challenge. |

Call me outdated or worse but I play mostly MOHAA yes the 1st one ... yea I got the others too but hmmmm I played battlefield 1942 but found the free expansion (the middle East one for get the name) better.
Play Day of the Defeat every now and then just now started on Red Orcehstra, But still have not found any thing better than MOHAA |
Currently playing Battlefield 2142 every so often. Other than that I really don't have any games these days that hold my interest. I think I'm starting to lose focus on gaming (omgwtfsauce!?) because there's just nothing out there that's worth investing time into.
I tried resubscribing to WoW, but I don't have any time to raid for end-game stuff, so I see no point in it. /sigh. |
So my Dreamcast died after I beat Lodoss War (one last hurrah I guess) and I've got nothing going on, gamewise. Like Wunderbar, I feel pretty apathetic about games right now. Whatever I do I'm going to have to shell out a few hundred dollars at least. A 360 looks like the best of a bad situation; I'll get access to some of the Xbox library I never played (never had an Xbox) plus the 360 seems like the strongest bet overall. I don't know. It's discouraging.
|
Kadath: get a PS2 man! you'll get one of the best game library since it's been out for longer than any of the current consoles. plus, they have free internet multiplayer. and the new ps2 slims are like 100$ now. that's fucking great.

Wunderbar: What's your ETA on getting the 360? I am sort of torn on waiting for the Elite, in the off chance I get an HD TV as some point in my life. |
Not even the God of War or Devil May Cry series? :/
|
Quote:
Honestly though, if you haven't gotten an Xbox 360 yet, you should get the Elite. The price value is really nice considering it comes with a 120gig hard drive, HDMI output, and, well... it's black. Black is beautiful. Honestly though, I just realized I say "honestly though" too much. :( I just bought Fight Night round 3 for PS2, and although it's not nearly as nice looking as the 360 version, the framerate seems a lot faster and it's basically the exact same game. |

Motorstorm came out in March and I did play the demo downloaded from the PS Store and that was pretty fun I have just not had time to go out and buy a copy to try out all the cars and unlockables etc. |

I'm not a big fan of Resistance: Fall of Man. I know a few people who got PS3s when it came out so I played quite a bit of the game over winter break a few months ago.
The biggest problem I had with the game was that often, in the campaign, cover means nothing because half the bad guys can shoot through walls. Also, in the campaign, the maps are uninspired and often have many repeating identical sections- I'm a fairly experienced console FPS gamer and got lost more than a few times. In other news, I recently downloaded and tried the Command and Conquer 3 demo. I was pretty impressed by it, but I think I'll hold off on buying it for a few reasons. The last few times a C&C game was released, I rushed to the store to buy it immediately, only to become bored after about a week (Tiberian Sun, Generals). The second reason is that my laptop can barely support the graphics- I have a Radeon X300 mobile which is fairly crappy. I can only render the game at decent framerates with low resolution and detail settings. For lack of willingness to spend money on a new laptop when the one I have works fine for most things, I'm going to end up buying an Xbox 360 Elite to do most of my gaming, I anticipate. I can't wait for Halo 3. |
my ETA on the 360 is whenever I get a damn job. HP let me go so I'm in between jobs right now. It wont be too long though until the 360 is in my hands, and yes, I'll be getting the Elite version, it just makes sense. :)
In other news.. as my post states, I recently got Rainbow Six: Las Vegas for the PC.. and I'm loving it. It's just an amazing game. :) |
Just bought Dead Rising and Fable:The Lost Chapters.
I'm screwing myself over for any midterms that were coming up. Mindlessly killing zombies with everything from bowling balls to shower heads to lawn mowers is just so satisfying... |
command an conquer three is a good game, i've yet to get online and play yet but so far it's a great game
|
Yea, I don't like how EA handles gaming from behind a firewall (sorry, I'm not going to blindly forward 30,000 ports to my desktop) and so I haven't been playing C&C3 online at all. The single player campaign is good though.
|
I've recently played Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and Supreme Commander. I loved C&C3 and am still plowing through the GDI campaign. I also loved STALKER and played it nonstop until I beat it. Apparently there are seven different endings that you can get, depending on what you do throughout the game. Excellent AI and nice graphics.
Supreme Commander was the odd one out in this trio. I didn't find the graphics too appealing and the camera is horrible. I'm not a fan of the top down view at all, so this was hell for me. Also, no mini map. I understand that I can scroll all the way out and see the world view, but I much prefer being able to glance down and see the action from a mini map. I don't want to have to leave the scene of a battle just to check the world view. I also thought the maps themselves sucked. The terrain detail is pretty shoddy and it hardly looks like you're actually fighting on a planet rather than just a flat green colored thing with trees randomly thrown on. The unit controls were annoying to me as well. I really couldn't play this game for more than 15 minutes before I wanted to uninstall it. So I did. |
So I got God of War and Shadow of the Colossus to tide me over until I get the Elite. God of War is fine, although combat feels a little bit like button mashing. Haven't gotten into SotC yet.
Carno, you really didn't dig Supreme Commander? I had read that with a dual display you could get a tactical display on one screen and the main view one another; that sounded pretty hot. |
Quote:
I just purchased God of War and Shadow of the Colossus, too. I also saw a used copy of God of War II, so I had to buy it. GOW is fun so far - but I got spoiled by the higher resolution graphics of my PS3 and XBOX 360 games. |
Playing Guitar Hero II right now, first time for any guitar game and i'm having a blast right now, i think i've played it 4 hours straight now
also picked up super paper mario which is pretty sweet but i can only take so much puzzling for one day |
I just scoured ebay for some DS games, and I got:
(shipping included in prices) Contact: $20 Meteos: $17 Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime: $15 Can't wait until they start coming in the mail. I'm extremely happy about Rocket Slime, I wasn't expecting to get it that cheap. It's supposed to be new and sealed as well, but I would bet that it's not new and somebody just used a shrinkwrap machine to "seal" it. As long as the game works though, I don't care. |
longbough:
So I have decided I hate GOW and want it to lose its childhood pet in a traffic accident. The decision to have jumping/balance puzzles in a game where the camera is deliberately disadvantageous to you is a dick move. I don't know how far you've gotten but Spoiler: Hades is just fucking obnoxious. |
|
Quote:
And even then I didn't find the graphics all that appealing either. The game just didn't "grab" me at all. |
I got Contact for Nintendo DS in the mail yesterday, and it's a pretty fun game if you enjoy MMO's. The game itself isn't an MMO, but the combat feels very MMO-like. You target a monster and go into "combat mode", and your character auto attacks while you occasionally perform special attacks.
The stat development system is pretty simple and feels really good-- there are all of the standard RPG stats: strength, agility, dexterity, stamina, etc.. There are also individual weapon skills, i.e. knife, club, fist weapons. When you swing a weapon, the respective weapon skill goes up, and also stats like strength and dexterity. As you get attacked, defense skills and agility may go up. Pretty standard for MMO's and PC RPG's, but not really as common for console RPG's. It gives the game a computer RPG feel that I really enjoy. The game got mediocre ratings because the combat isn't as active as most people would like, but honestly, if you play MMO's you'll probably enjoy it. I should be getting Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime in the mail tomorrow, I'm looking forward to trying that out. |
Rocket Slime is awesome. I'm just finishing it up.
I was about half way through Hotel Dusk and made a bad decision and didn't have a save game to go back to. After I finish up Rocket Slime, I guess I'll be going back to that. |
C&C III: Tiberium Wars is a good pick. I'm plugging through the GDI campaign and so far, so good. The last round of missions (southeast Europe) have irritated the hell out of me, but I've pushed through. Can't wait to try the NOD side.
Viva Pinata - I mentioned this one earlier, but I picked up the "official" game guide and it's opened up a whole new aspect to this game that I guess I just didn't "get" before. It may take a bit to get into, but stick it out...it gets loads better. |
Half Life 2 + Episode 1 : Simply the best games I've ever played! Insane graphics and a good story line. Took me pretty long too to beat it.
Counter Strike: Source : Good multiplayer game. About C&C 3, it looks pretty good but I don't know if its worth the 50$ (that's how much it was last time I checked). :grumpy: |
Picked up F.E.A.R for the 360. Maybe I'm just jaded - no scares at all. I had a bigger feeling of unease in Resident Evil on the 'cube!
|
Yeah, I didn't think F.E.A.R. was scary at all - and I played it on a high-powered PC. I thought Resident Evil was a much scarier series - and Doom 3 on the PC was scary for me.
Also the first Silent Hill (the only one I played) - was supposed to be scarier than the Resident Evil games ... it wasn't. It tried hard but it didn't work. I think many horror games fail when they try to make more "plot" for the game. Too much plot makes the game feel like someone's attempt to make a movie and that you're going toward a resolution of some mystery. It's games that seem to forego the plot that seem to be more "immersive" because you can't orient yourself with clues and a story ... you just want to survive. |
Shock scares aren't enough for this veteran. I remember the freakiest moment in REmake was when I could see the a zombie's shadow against the wall - the camera angle didn't include the window, but I knew what was there. It didn't just bust right in, either, until I least expected it to.
|
just picked up lotro, been playing for a few days, so far i like it, its a nice break from WoW. also picked up pokemon diamond first day it was out, played it non stop for a week till i beat the elite 4, still need 2 pokemon to get my national dex. i think both are great games.
|
eh, GoW2, its was good but disappointing. um FFXII great game but short compared to most of them but the side quests are fun and take a long time to do some of them. um damn i cant remember what the most revently released game i played is besides GoW2. oh but isnt Shadow of the Colossus a beautifully rendered game just because how big the damn world is.

Spiderman 3 for the 360
This game has been getting a lot of flack on the internet and to be sure, it certainly deserves....most of it. The cutscenes are....bad just doesn't really do it justice, I think. The voice acting (with the exception of J.K. Simmons) is just fucking horrible despite having most of the movie cast on the payroll. The fighting requires absolutely no skill, the in game mini-games are atrocious (damn you skydiving Spidey!) and you'll have to replay a ton of missions because a lot of the time they just leave you hanging with absolutely no guidance whatsoever. Oh, and the game manual is a joke. It's like 6 pages and most of them are general warnings about epilepsy, screen burn in and how to insert the disc properly. However--and here's where it shines--the city is beautiful. I've been through a handful of different missions, but nothing is more enjoyable than just swinging through the city. It's over twice the size of the city in Spidey 2 and the webslinging is so much more intuitive. The models are great, the city feels...right, especially at night and even though you're constantly interrupted by a myriad of generic criminals that you have to "avert," it's worth it. If the team had put half as much into the rest of the game as they did this, the game would have been fantastic. As it stands, it's only mediocre. 6/10 |
I recently acquired Titan Quest: Immortal Throne. It's like Diablo II, but it fiexed all the things that were wrong with it, like the town scroll shenanigans. You can have 2 classes, it's 3D, and I'm terribly hooked. Definitely recommended to anybody that likes the D2-style gear driven RPGs that has about a thousand hours to kill.

Pokemon: Diamond for the Nintendo DS. This game is beyond addicting, and it's so awesome. I've put in about 35 hours so far and I know I'm nowhere near finished. People are saying they're putting in 90-100+ hours. That is amazing for a game that's only $35 and on a handheld no less. Also picked up Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow which is great too, but it hasn't been touched since I put in Pokemon.
