Tekken 5.. What's the happs?
Huge tekken fan, from way back. I own all of them apart from the original, with Tekken 5 on pre-order. And I understand thatTekken 5 has tekken 1-3 included. Hopefully the idea makes it to the PAL version. Anyway, I was wondering what everyone thinks about it, arcade or NTSC console version. I've played the beast at the arcade, and i'm totally impressed.. it's like the tekken i've always wanted. While the lack of tagging in might not make it a 4 player multitap party game, It's still got plenty to keep my happy, especially with the furious competition I've got going with my mate over tekken since tekken 2. btw, i'm on top as it stands.

It's a decent enough game- better than most fighters. However, it's not cracked up for serious competative play. Once you break into expert level, the game becomes extremely different. It's fun, but nothing to be taken seriously, or you're going to get very upset in the long run.
It's something to play with your friends or at the arcade. But I wouldn't pay to enter any tournaments. |
FYI, it has Tekken 2&3.
I just saw the Tekken 2 intro video on Cinematech the other day and it really made me wanna go pick up Tekken 2 again. Dunno about T5 though, although I won the standee for it at work ;) |
Tekken 5 is great. Definitely much better when you play human opponents but the computer can be pretty challenging too if you play the higher difficulty levels. The "Devil Within" game sucks ass so I haven't really played through it.
It seems to be pretty balanced for the most part but of course, there can be mismatches. The combo system is pretty fluid once you figure out the timing. I was afraid the game was going to be too juggle heavy but it's actually not bad. You can get juggled pretty bad but it has limits. I've been a huge Tekken fan since the begining and this is by far the best version as far as gameplay goes. If they added the Tag feature, it would rule all. |
why include the simple tag feature on the first release while there is so much money to be had in releasing it on a second (nearly identical) version?

Well, I rented Tekken 5 the other night and DAMN. Excellent as hell game. The graphics are some of the absolute best there are for the PS2.
And I retract my previous reply: The "Arcade Archive" includes Tekken 1, 2, AND 3. Tekken 4 and Tekken Tag sold separately. The few days I had to play T5 I was so blown away, I was really tempted to pick up the Ultimate Collectors Edition Tekken 5, which includes an arcade stick, deluxe T5 box, and a DVD case to hold the whole Tekken collection, if you have it (nice marketing technique). And since I already have Tekken 1 at home, just gotta get 2, 3, 4, and Tag... Once when I'm done paying some bills, I'm definitely going to pick up this game. I didn't have time to play against another live player, but the learning and difficulty curve of the single player "Story Mode" are pretty reputable. The final boss IS a bitch, however, as he tends to use really cheap moves. Oh, and if you unlock the Kangaroo character, go through his (her?) Story Mode as soon as possible. I was stuck for about an hour on the last boss, but when the ending movie for the Kangaroo played, it was 100% worth it. |
I didnt even know there was a Tekken 5 until I read this (shows how little attention I have been paying to games since I havnt been able to afford them lol) Just started playing T4 again the last couple of nights after I stuck it in and realised I had deleted my save files, so I am currently going through everyones story mode again, will have to have a look at T5 sometime as it looks good.
