Any Day of Defeat players around?

Do you guys play DoD just to casually run around killing people, or are you more interested in a WWII-style strategic battle? In my experience, DoD players tend to be a little more "serious" about the game in terms of realism than other FPS games.

Anyway, I'm definitely more of a strategic type guy, and a few months ago I found this great tournament for it at http://dod.battleforeurope.com (which I really like because they have specific British and Para divisions). There's actually a new campaign starting in about a week and I encourage anyone who's interested to check it out.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a look. I actually made sure I bought HL2 via steam and got the silver edition just because I wanted to make sure I got DoD:S when it comes out. I'm patiently waiting for it to be released now.

I'm not so patiently waiting, I'd love to see the new graphics and models for the DoD engine, and the game is fun from both modes, but I seem to find fewer cheaters and better gameplay overall when I play DoD instead of CS. . . I miss the days of CS beta :)

Thing is that when i downloaded and installed HL2 via steam, it messed up my Orig HL install so I can't play DoD anymore. I already installed HL:S so I am hesitating to install the normal HL and then DoD again. I could, but I just haven't. So I haven't played DoD since I installed HL2.

Wow did that make sense?

It's easy enough to fix, you just have to port the HL and DoD into steam as well, your keys are still valid. Select Browse Games from the menu, switch to the Individual Games tab, then scroll down to find DoD and select Install and Play Now! As long as you're playing through Steam it keeps them all separate as necessary :)

Yeah that sucks. Steam has some issues. However, once DoD: Source comes out (assuming you decide to play it), BFE will be switching over to Source within a short period of time.

I used to play it a bit, but never got serious. Im still waiting for DoD:Source to be release, upon which Ill probably play it some more again, assuming they didnt butcher it (or that it ever gets released...).

I stopped playing DoD when I first played Red Orchestra. However, I hate the RO 3.2 patch. I've tried to get use to it, but I have given up, it ruined the game for me. So I'm back to playing DoD all the time. I mostly play Avalanche only servers. Either 666 or R|P.

Have they said when DOD:S will be released?

Bratwurst 04-21-2005 01:54 PM

They said "coming soon" back in February. Whatever that means....
