200$ in credit....

Ok, I have something like 200$ in credit at the local gameshop and it's burning a whole in my preverbial pocket.... what should i do with it?

I have an XBOX and a Ps2, all the other 'old' systems also, just dont play them much. I'm not much a hand-held player so I decided against getting a PSP..... sooooo... what should I do with it? =)

CityOfAngels 03-29-2005 04:36 PM

Too bad it's not real money 'cause I'd say invest in modding your XBOX and getting a 200 GB hard drive installed. But since it's store credit, I'd say buy up a bunch of pre-owned games.

heheh... done and.... done. long time ago, so that still leaves me with the credit =)

but I can't play online with it anymore, so I was actually thinking of getting another XBOX just to use for online games. But then I was also thinking of getting a Gamecube (even tho I rarely have people at my house to play because I play on a 15" LCD next to my computer...) just for Zelda and Metroid Prime etc.... thoughts?

Kadath 03-29-2005 05:12 PM

Gamecube has some excellent single player games, though of course they have owned the market on the raucous party game. In addition to Zelda and MP (2, if you like, and there's a new Zelda on the way) there's the RE series, Eternal Darkness, etc. A used 'cube can't go for more than a hundred and then used games will stretch the other half of the money for quite a lot of fun.

FYI, in the US we put the dollar sign before the amount.

You have Jade Empire and KotOR 1/2 for Xbox? If not, pick those up.

Carno 03-29-2005 06:07 PM

Go for the Cube!

Stare At The Sun 03-29-2005 06:51 PM

It would be nice if you listed what you already own.

I'd say get;
Ninja Gaiden
Halo
Crimison Skies
Mechassult 1/2
Panzer Dragoon Orta
GT4
God Of War
DMC 3

Ruse 03-29-2005 06:52 PM

I thought Jade Empire wasnt comming out until April 13th?

Anyway the cube isnt a bad way to go - espically with Zelda comming up... You could do that OR just hold out until the next gen systems come out ( Might just be me being a pack-rat and a money whore ).. its in your ballpark but if you do pick up another xbox solely for xbox live, pick up the new splinter cell game when it comes out the 31st. It will own you.

ratbastid 03-29-2005 09:18 PM

You know, I'm not much of a handheld gamer either... But the PSP might just convert me! Go put your hands on one, and then see if that's the particular hole you want that $200 to burn in your pocket.

SPQR 03-29-2005 09:58 PM

I would have said PSP, but since you've decided against that...

See if you can get your store credit put on a gift certificate or card. That way you can eBay the sucker for a shade less than it's actually worth.

whocarz 03-29-2005 10:05 PM

Why not wait until the next gens get released? Wont they be out by the end of the year?

hulk 03-30-2005 04:45 AM

Because they'd be a sight more than $200, I'd wager? *grin* Go for the 'cube, bro! Resident Evil 4, both Metroid Prime's, pick up Zelda and SSB:M for the pals, and you can die a happy man.

Wingless 03-30-2005 08:14 AM

Go for the GameCube, no doubt. $69.99 used at GameStop, if that's where your store credit is at. It'll be around that same price (used) no matter where you go. New will cost ya $99.99 but GameCubes are eternal, they never breakdown.

RAGEAngel9 03-30-2005 08:25 AM

Get the Cube, then the GBA addon. Then it's time for old school GameBoy Games.
Also, you can pick up the Zelda's collectors disc at Gamestop (usually), so you have N64 and NES Zelda to boot.

Sounds like some good ideas... but can anyone list good single player gamecube games?

Most likely, but having 200 dollars in credit would definately help absorb the cost.

Other than the ones that were already listed? Just to go over them again:
Zelda:WW
Metroid Prime 1 and 2
Eternal Darkness
RE0, 1, 4
Rogue Leader

etc. I am sick of the ignorance about the cube being ONLY a multiplayer game platform.

MooseMan3000 03-30-2005 06:07 PM

To add to the cube list...

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Pikmin 1 + 2 (most excellent strategy games)
Soul Calibur II (basically a two player game, as it's a fighter, but unlocking all the weapons in single player is fun as well)
Super Mario Sunshine
Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, and Zelda: Wind Waker go without saying. They are all fantastic games. Metroid Prime might be my favorite game ever.
Need for Speed: Underground 2 is excellent, though I'd recommend it for another system... the graphics kinda suck on Cube, unfortunately.
If you haven't played them, the Prince of Persia games.
The new Zelda game this fall sometime... looks most excellent.

You might want to pick up a Wavebird, too. They are pretty nice. Or, if you don't like the Nintendo controllers (how could you not? - though I have met a few weirdos), try the MadCatz MicroCon. It's comfortable and easy to play on, and nice and cheap.

But seriously, get Metroid Prime. FanTAStic game.

Mr.Deflok 03-30-2005 11:50 PM

I agree with everyone else here, get a Cube and then every first party game available for it.

But if only choose one, make sure it's Metroid Prime, the best game ever made. Anyone who wishes to contest this fact may die.

hulk 03-31-2005 05:56 AM

It's a toss-up, man. OoT or Metroid Prime? They're both so awesome!

shadowalker 03-31-2005 07:34 AM

Save it for the next gens comming later this or early next year. The next nintendo will be backwards compatable with the older games so i see it a waist to get the cube when the next one is rightr around the corner. But thats me.

zxello 04-01-2005 12:11 AM

hmmmm i really, seriously debating whether or not to buy a gamecube, metroid and zelda both sound R E A L L Y tempting =)
