Best Final Fantasy (Single Player only)
Ok, someone's definately already asked this but seeing Im in a FF craze right now, going through FF6 AGAIN... What do you think is the best Final Fantasy ever (single player, that is). Since I can only put down 10 options Im taking out 2, because honestly, FF2 just sucked
|
3/6. This isn't even a question. It's too good.
On a side note, X2 was the biggest let-down ever. I was very unhappy with it. |
All of them are good but 3/6 is the best ever, great game play. There was no other game like it at the time
|
2/4 is the best ever! Extremely closely followed by 3/6 and 7.
Just wondering, why didnt you include japanese 2? |
3/6 though X was good. 3 had great gameplay and reminded me of good ol dragon warrior
|
i voted for 7 but 8 is my second favorite..... i wish i had a snes to play the other final fantasy's
|
The first one, of course. Even after the 8-bit Nintendo has bitten the dust, I can't seem to get myself to like anything else but the original U.S. released catridge.
In fact, I have a game going right now in an emulator now (And yes, I own the original). Never the same game twice. |
On a total side note, nothing would make me happier than to find an unopened Dragon Warrior 3 box and an NES. All the maps and the guide that came with that game and the game itself were just fantastic. My frist great foray into the world of console RPGs. I miss it.
|
bah. you guys suck. >:-p FFX all the way. best game of all time in my book. but i know, that's just me.
|
Only ever played FF7 but I can vote for that knowing that it cant be beaten
|
There's a million of these threads, but what they hey... I love FF ;)
Hm, I have to say 4. I played that soooo much throughout the years, it never got tiring. I've seriously started over and beaten that game.. I can't even count how many times. It wasn't very long once you knew exactly what to do (I think my record was 9 hours). I even spent extra time in it building my chars up to lv 99.. did that while trying to find the goddamn pink tail on the moon. There's a small patch of shadow against a wall where you have a 1/20 chance of fighting the pink puff, then it has a 1/64 chance of dropping the pink tail. To this day, I still never got it. 2nd to that... I really don't know. 7 was good, and I really loved how 9 went back to its roots. I didn't like 8 or 10 much at all. Too linear. 5 was pretty good, too. Kinda strange, though. I never did beat 2 or 3. Isn't 12 coming out very soon? [edit] Nevermind, 12 has been pushed back to Q4 2005 :( |
I'd have to say a tie between FF7 and FFX. I'll ultimately choose FF7 because of the sheer magnitude of the game. FFX is basically tied with it though. And yes, I've played the older Final Fantasy's but I simply don't think they compare with 7 and 10.

I liked VII a lot but I have actually never finished it. I always make it halfway through and then just quit. FFX hooked me long enought for me to finish it and thus, for me, is the better game. I also like the level up system of X, it gave you lots of control on what your character is like.
|
Seeing as I'm playing through VII right now (the only thing I have left to do is to park the Highwind next to the N. Cave and fight) I'm obligated to say VII.
X is good, but damn the animatics are way too damn long at times. I feel as if I'm watching a damn movie at times (sometimes good, sometimes bad thing). I also have Dawn of Souls, and I'm about 60% through I, and I've just scratched the surface of II. They're alright, but my beef against I is that it's too easy to get lost in your quest (maybe its just me), and there are waaay too many random battles (I know that's not just me). I'll probably go pick up IX next, I've heard mixed reviews on VIII. Going from VII back down to NES's I and II is tough, I think I'm too used to the 3D realm of RPGs now. |

Seeing as how the original FF on the NES is the only one I played, I voted for that.
|
I had to go with 7, it's always been one of my favorite games, completely blew me away when it came out and it's still playable today.
|
Voted for 9, just to be unique, plus Vivi's the man.
|
I liked the levelling up and abilities system for 9 - 7's materia combos were awesome, there are so many tricks you can pull off if only you have the right materia. The junctioning system in 8 was horrendous but did let you totally customise your characters - as long as you had enough powerful magic. X was good - the sphere grid provided motivation to fight.
Don't talk to me about X2. Just don't... *shudder* |

3/6 and X were my faves. 3/6 had such agreat story line, and the sword combos/martial arts/tools added a great new level to the series. Out of the two though, I'm going to have to lean towards X. The story was great, graphics were nice, but the fighting was awesome. I loved how each character truly did have their own strengths, but you could slowly adapt a character a different way via the sphere grid. Plus blitzball was pretty fun.

Kefka is the man.

IMHO, All that can be said is:
3/ 6 > * |
Unfortunately, I haven't played very far in FF8 and higher, mostly because I don't own a PS2, so my reponse isn't entirely fair. Out of the others, however, FF6 was my favorite. Gameplay, story, characters... it was beautiful.
7 was fun, but I thought it was too large. I tend to lose interest after a while. Video game ADD, I guess. The original was also excellent. Overall, the graphics have gotten better, but I don't think the games have. Not that I won't play them. |
Heh, MooseMan, I have the same Video Game ADD as you... FFX for example has way too many freakin cut scenes and FMV's. It wasn't until I was around 9 hours into the gameplay, it seems, before I could finally level up my characters in that game!
Whenever FF XII comes out, I'm sure it will be great, but I'm afraid that it too will suffer from an overload of FMV's/cut-scenes. |
FF7 is still in my mind the best. I could never get into any of the others, and I really love the whole materia thing they have and the user interaction with the game.
|
FF 9 wins my vote for being a combination of all that came before, and having a fun story and sidequest set to boot.
However, I own almost all the FFs out for the PSX including Tactics, Origins (I and II), Chronicles (IV and Chrono Trigger), Anthology (V and VI), VII and IX, and have X and X-2. For a mindless sequel, X-2 is ok. I think it was loads better than VII, II, or Mystic Quest. Mystic Quest could only be second worst in my mind, right above VII. And at least X-2 returned to the ATB system. I missed it's dissappearance since 6. :( On another note, I wish that Squeenix would re-release Seiken Densetsu 3 and package Secret of Mana with it. Then they could join Legend of Mana in my collection. |
FF3.. of course ;)
|
VII is the best. Not only was it extremely fun to play but I think it really started to expand the series.
|
i've only played, 1, 8, and 10
|
i really really loved 3/6, i loved the theatrical approach that they did so well and i loved all the characters and i loved the music and i loved the epic story and the climactic ending, but 7 was still better. the feel of it was better, and they really did the appeal of the world well, with its half-industrial half-nature feel, and the story was... darker in the dark parts, but lighter in the light parts. it was just more modern, and the producers had to make something to break the mold, and they knew it. and they did a good job.
|
Why 6 of course. And for some reason, I through half of it 3 times and have yet to finish it. Waiting for the GB or DS port.
And why isn't FF Tactics on of the options? That one gets my vote. Finished it twice. And Aerith is in that too. |
No possible question 3/6
Best RPG ever |
Heh, it seems like a big debate between 3/6 and 7... Personally, I would have to say that my favorite is 3/6. It was probably the 2nd or 3rd FF game i played, having played mystic quest (kinda not really an FF game, gameplay wise) and FF1 before. FF3 was huge, at least compared to its predecessors. 16ish unique characters if i remember correctly, good storyline and just plain fun. There were alot of concepts in the game that evolved into later FF games, and just some simply ingenious things- like Gau's crazy abilities, how difficult it was to get economizers from brontaurs (one place to find the brontaurs, appear about 1/20 battles, kinda difficult since they cast ultima). Something i thought was fun about the game was that there were decisions that you could make that would change your game. They were small, like whether you wanted ragnarok the esper, or the sword- or making sure you got BOTH atma weapons so you could bring down destruction genji glove/offering style and stuff like that.
FF7 was fun too. It's late and I am sure most of you have also played that. FF5 is a game that i need to play more of. I got about 1/2 way through, then stopped. There are a few outstanding traits of this game- it is actually quite difficult, which is a trait most of the other FF games lack. It also introduces (ithink) the job system, which is fun. |
I voted for FF7 but i have a question kinda off topic.
I read somewhere that they were gonna remake FF7 for ps2. Was this just a rumor? I can't remember where the article/source was but does anyone know what i'm talking about? |
FF6 all the way, obviously. I loved how every character had their own song. Its one of the few RPGs that make me come back to play again and again. It needs to come out on a portable system so I can play it on that also. FF tactics advance would be a close second.

userasdf: goto www.adventchildren.net or do a google search for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Square's making a "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII" with the sequel short movie Advent Children, the prequel cell phone game (Japan only) Before Crisis, the PSP action RPG sequel game Crisis Core, and the PS2 sequel action/adventure game Dirge of Cerberus.
|
FF7 was the best hehe! 8 was good too with the Seed thingy, but 7 is by far the best!
|
I can't choose! I've only played seven and nine. I haven't finished either.
Sephiroth and Vincent are sexy sexy sexy, but on the otherhand Kuja's pretty damn hot himself, and though not sexy Vivi is awesome... I think it's a win for nine because of moogles. (I'm such a chick! ;)) |
Here's my final fantasy rant. I started off with final fantasy 7 back in the day, just after it went platinum, needless to say, i was thoroughly impressed.. loved the story, loved it action and gameplay... then final fantasy 8 came along and the graphics blew me away, if i had to vote for the game i have most anticipated, it would be that one. fortunately it didn't let me down. It was awesome, a real classic sorta story, nice visuals and a revamped gameplay system made a great change..
Skip final fantasy 9 (nothing against it, i just never got round to it) and queue final fantasy X. while i didn't anticipate it as much as 8, it was in my opinion a better game (marginally) the battle system simplified and a the most balanced of the 3 i had played. After that i went through the stages of reliving the past ones e.g tactics, 1-6 etc. All of em were pretty nice esp 6, which was a great final fantasy for that generation. Oh and I played FF X-2 right the way through just recently too. Now, looking back after all that, i have to say it's gotta be VII for me. After all the great gameplay, visuals (for that time) and characters, it has without a doubt probably the most kick ass story out almost any game i've ever played. The way that it darts all over the show then slaps you in the face for good measure, the heartbreak, the angst, the progression from small time activist group to man on a mission saving the world. It's all in there and it's bloody great. As for Final Fantasy X-2?.. If you were expecting epic, you're average. I think trying to do a full on game that competes with X might not have been the best idea especially if it turned out for the worse. This light-hearted attempt was what I would have done and sets a little bit of resolution for the previous game. Besides, technically, it was a solid title. Gameplay was solid, Graphics were hot and the story, not too bad. You have to accept change to get the most out of your gaming. |
