Help me find the correct SuperNintendo - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Hey fellow gamers!

I've decided that I want to buy a SuperNintendo just so I'll be able to play the Super Mario GoKart game

My problem is that it's been so long since I last had access to that consol that I've forgotten what it's called!

This is the exact version of the SuperNintendo I am looking for:

that's the SuperNintendo 8-bit right?

and this is the SuperNintendo 64-bit right?:

I just need you to help me tell me the name of the correct version so I can specify it when I put up an add on a website that deals with used consoles/games.

Yeah, you're looking for the Super Nintendo. The ol' 8 bit one.

The 64 bit one was aptly named Nintendo 64.

But...there have been Mario GoKart games on every system, so which one where you looking to play? If it's the one with the crappiest graphics (completely 2D), then Super Nintendo is what you're after.

EDIT: that EXACT version is the Super Famicon. The 8 bit nintendo console only released in Japan. I hope that doesn't confuse you too much...

Ehhh. Super Nintendo, the console with the original Mario Kart, is 16bit. 8bit was NES(Nintendo Entertainment System), which never had Mario Kart. The 64bit Nintendo is indeed called the Nintendo 64.

Great! So far I have 1 guy saying it's the NES 64-bit and you guys saying that it's the Nintendo 64. Good thing I'm not confused

They're right.
8-bit is the NES
16-bit is the SNES
64-bit is the N64

I tried Googling some stuff, but I came up empty.

yep, the SNES is the 16bit version!

remember that you'd want a PAL version SNES, so it'd play fine on your TV. I am pretty sure Denmark/Europe is PAL (ie the television frequncy and resolution and sutff is different to american/NTSC standards). Otherwise you'll need converters and stuff to play different games.....

you shoudl've rephrased that by saying the one with the best gameplay!

Many great games on the SNES though, you need not just stick with mario kart!

NES 8 Bit

This is the North American orginal release of the SNES. 16 Bit

N64

From the sound of it your looking for the middle one.

You want a PAL Super Nintendo, the game is Super Mario Kart, or if you really want to there are emulators (google for snes9x) on emulators you have to get a rom of the game, these are normally illegal to own unless you own the game, however many internet sites have them (some are legally ripped, google: Snes ROMS Super Mario Kart)

Seething: The Super Famicon is very similar looking to the PAL Snes, the one Nancy posted was the PAL Snes (the name Super Nintendo on the front being the give away). The US one was that odd ugly box thing... the PAL one was basically a complete redesign missing some of the cooler features of the Japanese and American ones...

Because I am a sucker for old things and because playing on PC is NOT the same as on a SuperNintendo. I really enjoy/-ed using those old joypads

lol that's not even going to be a problem. I'm gonna search for it in Denmark and there's no way in hell that anyone here would have one with NTSC standards.

Yeah I know. But they're pretty hard to come by these days. My first priority is to get MarioKart and then I may look for the Donkey Kong games. They were some of my favourites as well

Wow I thought those joypads were some of the worst - no offense. I think that the only thing worse is the original NES with the hard rectangle edges!

That's part of the experience, yo. I can't imagine collecting pieces of the Triforce with a comfortable gamepad.

That SNES you are looking for is the Super Famicom. It is what they called Nintendo in Japan. The first NES in Japan was called Famicom. The Super Nintendo was called Super Famicom.

Note the Super Famicom logo. It is the same logo that is on the controller and the console in the pic you provided.

Here is a pic of the box for Super Famicom. Look familiar?

On further research the same system was sold in Japan, Taiwan, Korean, China, Australia, Eastern Europe and Micronesia.

Nancy you want a Super Famicon which is the PAL/Japanese release.

The Famicon or Nintendo as it is called here in America is the old square boxy one with flip up front and 2 button controllers.

Nintendo 64 also called N-64 here in America was the next system in line for the consumer after they quit supporting the Super Famicon/Nintedno. Followed next in line by the GameCube which is the current system out there by Nintendo as far as console game systems go.

Nancy just check that E-Bay link up above it is what you need/want.

Also I purchased a used Gamecube from a guy at work just so I could play the new Mario Kart Double Dash for it

So I understand your jones for the games as I have it too.

Emulators are for sucks. I still have my orignal NES and SNES, in somewhat working order. Surprisingly, you can still buy new controllers for them (not made by Nintendo, of course.) Games are sparse, though.

SNES is infront of my TV.. Mario Kart is under it. MegaMan X is in it... Oh yeah and we can't ignore the all Important Chrono Trigger I took out of it to put the MegaMan in it.

SWEET! Perhaps I should buy an extra controller just in case one of them should break right in the middle of a Mario Kart Marathon

Exactly! I know that they're not ergonomically correct but the old controller still lay perfectly in my small hands

I don't think I'll ever be able to make the same manoeuvres with a new controller as with the old one. That's why I MUST have the old one

But if it works, then you'll be sitting pretty with a Super Nintendo.

Besides, if the guy screws you over, the negative feedback will kill his rating.

You could always contact him beforehand to make sure you're not getting screwed.

Bidding on the Super Nintendo is no problem since I can borrow my father's VISA card. However I think James (that's the seller's name) is willing to do business outside E-Bay which would make it easier for me.

Isn't it a bit complicated for him to ship it to your friend first and then to you? All that shipping cost a fortune! I think it's better that James just send it directly to me. However it would be great if your friend could check it out and see if it works perfectly before James send it to me, but I don't suppose that your friend lives near Brisbane, Queensland?

crxforum Crazy	That SNES you are looking for is the Super Famicom. It is what they called Nintendo in Japan. The first NES in Japan was called Famicom. The Super Nintendo was called Super Famicom.
