Eye vs. TFP(Chess) - Game 1

I will post my first move, then you can post yours. If more than one move is posted against mine, whichever is posted most wins. If there are the same number of posts for two moves I will pick the one that came up last.
For this game I am white...

is it even advised?

You want to move the bishop to b4 and put me in check, I think. The notation would be "...Bb4." The board is a grid. The lower left hand square is a1 and the upper right is h8 etc.
R=Rook
N=Knight
B=Bishop
Q=Queen
K=King
Pawns have no letter, you just note the square the pawn is going to move to.

I think this might jeopardise the rook and bishop.
(A single move of his bishop will lock them down and take either one)

I was thinking: Nc6-a5 ??

Na5?? What then? White plays Qxh6 and the walls come tumbling down! Better than Rxe2 might be Bg4xe2?

Bxe2 if white plays Rfe1 then d3! We have a supported passed pawn. With the Bishop in front of it will be unstoppable! Whites pieces will be tied down by the pawn. All of his pawns are blocking him in.

The only decent looking possibilty for white to me appears to be Bxc6, but after Qxc6 what has white gained? he lost his good light squared bishop, and his king's placement isn't looking quite as secure. Looking at these lines I see no way for white to gain any type of edge.

consider: Qxd4

This forces a choice of either Qxh6 or Qxd4
(does eyeronic wish to swap queens or get aggressive?)

grumpyolddude 12-09-2003 09:50 PM

If he chooses to take the queen, we take with the knight. At this point, we are up 2 pawns with definite prospects of promoting at least one of them.

Taking our pawn at h6 saves him a few more options, but our material advantage remains, now with the queens in play.

I think this is a good move... Qd3 allows him too many options, Qxd4 is a little more agressive...

So, for as far as I'm concerned: Qxd4

Can I suggest an official TFP chess ladder? Get all the interested names, draw up a list, and get opponents to play in any way they want, with both opponents posting who won or lost. A knockout tourney, perhaps.

if so...best place to play would be www.itsyourturn.com

Ladder Style

I really like the idea of a ladder style system and we can all play games. I would be willing to help with the creation and updation of a thread such as that.

Eye we are still waiting on your move lol..

Count me in. My online time is unpredictable, and sometimes late at night, but I think I can check Its Your Turn every day. If I can find time for 2 fanasy leagues, I can make time for this.

Meanwhile, did we decide on a move, or were we still hashing that out?

Sorry it takes me so long folks. This is a labor intensive process. It only takes me a couple minute to decide on the move, but then I have to:

1. open the chess program,
2. make the moves,
3. screen print,
4. open photoshop,
5. paste the image,
6. edit it,
7. save it for the web,
8. open the host site,
9. upload,
10. make the post
11. and link the pic!

It's quite a process. Any ideas for making this easier would be appreciated. B/T/W, you guys are kicking my ass. What the hell was I thinking? Just ask Whoaitsz, I'm not that great a chess player myself. Whew!

grumpyolddude 12-13-2003 10:41 AM

We appreciate the efforts, eyeronic! Which chess program are yu using? My son has several and may know a shortcut we could use.

And don't be so self-deprecating. You play well! If we don''t come up with the right move here, it's mate in 2!

My first thought is Qg4 or Ne7? What does the rest of the gang think?

hulk 12-14-2003 01:59 AM

Well, he's got our king pinned nicely, we might want to do something about that. I'm not too sure of the best move, all my ideas seem to be ending up in small, 1 square queen dancing =D. He's pretty well dug in, but not very mobile. Perhaps moving some pawns down the board?

b4, methinks.

Silvy 12-15-2003 02:38 AM

I see the mate-in-2 moves.
(took me a while though :( )
I like the idea of moving our pawns south, but that would not prevent him from winning.

I'd say protect the king by moving the knight, but I'm not sure as to wether it should be Ne7 or Ne5. In short term they seem equal to me, but Ne5 moves our knight closer to the battlefield :)

Come to think of it (this post is taking me 20 minutes ;) ), ne7 is better. If we do Ne5, our pawn at f6 will likely be taken by the queen as a consolation prize. Plus it will put our knight out in the open.

I'd like to keep our queen where it is, it is keeping the whole SW region in check.

My vote goes to Ne7 (though I don't like blocking the rook at e8)

Hulk, do you have any input regarding the pawns? I didn't see how they could prevent the knigh/queen->checkmate setup.

Keep up the good work Eye, you're an entertaintment to a lot of us.

grumpyolddude 12-15-2003 07:28 PM

Let's not overlook the possibility of Bxf1. Take his rook away from blocking his king. Now he mus weigh his options... take our bishop (with the bishop or the rook?)... take our knight (with the bishop or the rook?)... or move his knight to f5? If he chooses the last one, we still have Qg4 to thwart him. We trade queens, but are now have 2 rooks, a bishop and a knight to his one rook and bishop.

Ryan 12-15-2003 07:47 PM

I agree with Grumpyolddude on this move. And i feel it is our best move in this situation.

How would this surely result in trading queens? I just don't see it...

I like the idea of taking his rook, it doies clear up the board a little, if nothing else.

grumpyolddude 12-17-2003 12:53 PM

Silvy, nothing is certain. IF eyeronic plays Nf5 and Qg7, then we will trade queens. There's still a lot of game left here (and, remember, eyeronic is also a silent participant in our discussions. I hope he doesn't take any of my ramblings too seriously;) ).
