ANything like this out there
alright i was a huge fan of diablo 2, mostly because it was a good free online game that allwoed you to, for the most part, make your character how you wanted.
I was just wondering if there are any games like that, where you play with people online in a point and attack or RPQ method that are free. Some would say im cheap. But i say im not gonna buy a game that i will play on and off and have to subscribe and play it for 3 months or waste my money. So is there anything out there, like an everquest or a diablo 2?? i dunt have everquyest because it cost a monthly fee, i have and complete diablo2, with high level characters, and the game simply is not fun any more ![]() help me!

Granted Im not much of an RPG guy so thats just my opinion. Story line and game mechanics may be better in NWN, but in the end, it just boils down to click, kill, upgrade, repeat.

Hardly. NWN has, whatchamacallem? Oh yeah, dialogue options. Good/evil possibilities. 3D graphics. edit - and there are more possibilities to solving quests/riddles than combat. D2 is all combat.
Click, kill, upgrade, repeat? That defines many, many games. Surely you can see greater differences between the games than that? Again, NWN is an RPG while D2 is RPG-lite. I enjoyed them both, but c'mon... |

There was a game that came out a year or so ago.. It was like Diablo 2, but different enough that it wasn't overlapping.
I totally forget the name though.. It may have had "Dungeon" in it, but it wasn't Dungeon Siege. I remember playing a demo of it.. You could use a pack animal to carry extra goods around.. I'm drawing a complete blank though. It may not have had "Dungeon" in the title, but I remember really wanting to play the game, but my PC couldn't really handle it. EDIT: The game is called Dungeon Siege. Here is a picture of the box art: ![]() Reviews of the game, can be found HERE. Also, it looks like an expansion pack has since been released called, Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna. Take care. EDIT AGAIN: My bad, looks like this has already been suggested.. I guess I should have read the replies first.

I'm sure most people reading this thread are probably familiar enough with both games that I don't need to actually go through the differences point by point, but I really don't think it's a fair comparison. Playing NWN as if it were D2 just would not make any sense. The game is simply not structured to allow for the kind of massive chaotic destruction that you find in D2. Sure, you can skip virtually all but the most basic plot lines and still get through the game, but what would be the point of even playing if you wanted to do that? I can see this is quickly progressing towards me ranting, so I'll stop. I played them both and liked them both, but I liked them for completely different reasons and play them when I'm in very different moods. |

The only two games that come to mind are Sacred, and Guild Wars. Sacred is a single player game and it might have online options, and Guild Wars is basically a free MMORPGlite. You only pay to get the game. I haven't actually played either, so don't take my word for it.

Guild Wars I played in their open E3 and Halloween events; it might be what your looking for. GW is geared towards alot of PvP, but also has cooperative and solo misions where you kill monsters, level up and get your loot. Ideal for the casual player is the start up time; I could be killing monsters or other players with in 2 minutes of starting the game.
I had a blast in the arena; grouping is done automatically so all you have to do is click fight and your off to a private area for team battle. It's as close to swords and magic, death-match style gaming I've come across ![]() |
