Cynthetiq 12-16-2006 11:11 PM

downed Vael, Broodlord Lashlayer, and Firemaw in BWL for the first time ever.

Was very cool... long but cool.

Haha the big bad puppy, Nef seems easy..or is it just me?

P.S. Bliz really messed up big time nerfing the hell out of the mages the 3 top in the guild which is my self and 2 others pull aggro all the time, like 2 crits in a row and boom hes on me. So if your a mage watch your threat meter and if you don't have that mod....Download it.

BigGov 12-19-2006 05:45 AM

Never got to attempt Nef, damn guild drama :(

Haven't raided much since the last patch so I don't know how they nerfed mages. Do you have points in burning soul or frost channeling?

Frosstbyte 12-19-2006 06:34 AM

Mages actually got buffed in terms of their ability to output damage. What really got nerfed was rage generation, which makes front end aggro much touchier on most boss fights, and, I suppose, aggro in general much touchier.

Nef is easy, that's about all there is to it. The tough part of the fight is knowing how to tank/dps/control the drakonids. There are more than enough strategies out there now that it's not much of a hurdle for most guilds to learn in a few passes and take him down. Vael and Razor are by far the hardest parts of BWL. Once they're on farm status, the rest of the zone is pretty much a loot pinata.

I'm getting the horrifying feeling that I'm going to go into xpac with 7/9 tier 3, unless the xpac gets pushed back. I'm lacking legs and won't really be able to play again until sometime in mid January. And I can all but guarantee we won't be running the zone after BC hits. That would suck. Oh well, so it goes.

Lasereth 12-19-2006 12:42 PM

Yeah the only hard parts of BWL are Razorgore, Vael, and Nef phase 1. Chromaggus is easy as hell as soon as everyone "gets" the line of sight strategy. Our guild was infamous for getting time lapse almost every single time we fought Chromaggus...we actually had an easier time with time lapse than any other type.

Nef Phase 1 is easy using the old Battle Shout method, but now that it's nerfed you have to go back to the fight seperately at the hall entrance strategy. Our guild never perfected it. We killed Nef about 10 times using that method, maybe more, but the first 5 or so kills were after multiple wipes in phase 1. Sometimes the warriors can hold aggro well at the hall entrance, sometimes not. It's really irregular. Phase 2 and Phase 3 of Nef is a joke as long as you have a decurser on the MT.

Know exactly how you feel, have 6/8 NW and I've always wanted the full set for the 8/8 proc, but now it looks like I'll never get the 10% chance at a free POM :(

we wiped to much on firday because of the mages doing to much damage...warlocks seem to be fine....Im kinda pissed and have been PvPing my 60 rogue:D

BigGov 12-20-2006 05:03 AM

Too much damage?

For months I wasn't able to pull aggro even if I wanted to while still ruling the damage meters. It was really kinda sad. But that's what happens when you get threat reduction talents, have a good tank, and wait for the tank to build a little threat.

Then I went into Molten Core with one of the higher guilds on the server because I was bored one night after the patch and pulled aggro. Granted a 41/0/10 spec isn't a great raid spec, and getting back to back 3k+ crits pulls aggro pretty quick, the fact I didn't put any points into any PvE talents basically screwed myself in that regard.

If fire mages are pulling aggro now, I have no idea why, the nerf to ignite halfway ruined the talent. How are multiple crits in a row worthwhile when any ignite past the first in the next 4 seconds is ignored?

Halx 12-20-2006 05:42 AM

I don't get it. Is your MT not protection? I'm fury, which is slightly better than arms with aggro, and I can hold aggro off an entire tier3 raid bearing down on my mob mere seconds after I pick it up. This includes about 4-5 fire mages.

Scorps 12-20-2006 12:36 PM

Are mage rule the damage meter, but lately we do to much and half to back off...I miss the top 5 or 6 being all mages....now the rogues and locks own the meter:(

Are top 4 tanks are all proct spec and we still pull. I pulled Ebonroc the other night and I didn't even do any damage to him I was standing waiting for the sunders.

Halx 12-20-2006 03:20 PM

Tell them to use revenge and shield slam. If they are just using sunder and devastate, that may be their problem.

However I am still not sure how...

4 prot spec warriors is a waste, they're just gimping the raid when they're not tanking, which is often.

Shauk 12-21-2006 05:18 AM

yeah, my guild made it all the way to huhu in aq40 before I stopped playing, and we only had 1 prot spec tank, and half the time he didn't play. Bottom line is, 10% damage reduction in def stance applies no matter your spec, as does +def skill from proper gear.

Itemization > spec when it comes to tanking, and, warriors are given an adequate skillset to work with by default. Everything else is merely a tool to help them do it a little better if they are having trouble with thier itemization.

Lasereth 12-21-2006 07:52 AM

Using the sunder armor + heroic strike macro can pretty much guarantee you'll never lose aggro in a normal fight, even though on some fights you still have to be careful (Vael, Broodlord, ALL of the drakes in BWL).

I specced Prot just so my guild would let me MT the twin emps. First night I tried it we beat them for the first time. Skill > spec (we had double prot warriors tanking twin emps for about 50 wipes before I tried it, completely unsuccessfully).

Oh we got like 6 or 7 warriors on a night, 4 are prot and the others and DPS whores

StanT 12-23-2006 02:51 PM

ARRGGHHH,

My WoW account got hacked this morning. Full T2, Lok'Amir, the complete BWL collection for priests, as well as 850G and a similar value in enchanting supplies.

I've opened a ticket, talked to a GM, and they are looking into it. Anyone have any experience negotiating with them?

For what it's worth, Firefox, spybot, spywareblaster, adaware, ZoneAlarm security suite and windows are all updated. I've identified every process running and don't see anything I don't expect.

Cynthetiq 12-23-2006 02:55 PM

sorry to hear that man, good luck getting it back.

from our guild website someone posted...

If you visited ui.worldofwar.net in the last few days you might want to scan your hard drive with the latest antivirus definitions. We have been informed that at this time the key logger was removed from the ui.worldofwar.net homepage.

The key logger itself was in an iframe embedded from an ad that was running on their site

The key logger planted a file called ntldr.exe on your C: drive There is however ntldr.dll please do not get them confused. You need the ntldr.dll to boot your PC to a desktop. A great free online scanner can be located at Trend Micro

Halx 12-25-2006 09:49 PM

Man, people getting hacked left and right. Blizzard really needs to step up and do something. I honestly wouldn't mind an extra step in the login process if it meant better security, but right now its fucking ridiculous. 5 people in my guild have gotten hacked in the last 2 months.

Scorps 12-25-2006 11:23 PM

So I should change my PW??

If I get hacked I would go insane.

Frosstbyte 12-26-2006 12:10 AM

Changing your PW doesn't do you much good if they have a keylogger on your system. Update all your scanning software and run it regularly. Unless you're ABSOLUTELY sure where a link on the blizzard boards is sending you, don't click it. And, you know, even if you are absolutely sure, maybe you shouldn't click it anyway. I got a keylogger from the boards (though fortunately I caught it before I'd logged in) and I haven't clicked much since.

I'd recommend getting Spybot, because of it's delightful immunization feature. Instead of just notifying you when you catch something and removing it, spybot actually blocks all known threats from functioning even if it gets on your system. Far from perfect, but it's definitely one of the best features I've seen on a spyware scanner.

If it makes you feel better, go ahead and change your pw, too.

Esoteric 01-06-2007 11:44 AM

 That axe is insane, if those stats are indeed real I would assume that it must take a fuckton of time and effort to obtain it.

Scorps 01-06-2007 12:06 PM

Is that Axe only horde?

Lasereth 01-06-2007 01:29 PM

I wouldn't say the axe is fake 100%. It does indeed seem fake, but if you look at other confirmed BC loot, it's not that absurd (level 70 epic 2-handers having 550+ max damage). I'm 50/50. I won't believe either way until there's proof. :)

Lasereth 01-08-2007 06:30 AM

It's really depressing at what BC is doing to the guilds of WoW. My guild has about 60 core raiders with full tier 1 and most of tier 2 (most of us had full tier 2). We even had a few with many pieces of tier 2.5. We were up to C'Thun in AQ 40. Then when the BC loots were released and people started getting invited to closed beta for BC, everyone stopped raiding. Our guild hasn't did a single raid since October.

Now, out of around 100+ guild members that played regularly, we have like 20. Maybe. EVERYONE has quit the game. I wonder if BC will be strong enough to bring all of the people back that have quit. I'll definitely be back as long as my friends and brother are playing, but it's just weird to see players like our guild leader, class officers, people who have been in the guild for TWO YEARS simply quit because of boredom or RL reasons with 40+ epics on their main. Like I said, BC better kick some serious ass or I think Blizzard might be losing a large chunk of its player base.

Shauk 01-08-2007 06:46 AM

I quit for the sole purpose of getting the expansion. Really, that money saved - free expansion, and why waste more time getting gear and farming instances. I like killing stuff once, but beyond that, i'm just kinda like "yawn"

yeah the gear is nice, but like I said, no point farming it at this point.

Stompy 01-09-2007 05:10 PM

Anyone have a download link for the patch?

Blizzard sucks an ass for making it insanely difficult to get the freakin thing. BT sucks. Too many leechers, not enough seeders, takes well over an hour for me.

Those 3rd party sites make you register. Bleh.

There's gotta be a solid spot somewhere to download it from!

Halx 01-11-2007 03:56 PM

I have finally quit WoW. I'm getting more into instant gratification games. Just beat Dungeon Siege 2, now playing Rainbow Six: Vegas.

my guild is run by IT supergeniuses, so they just host the patch as soon as they get it anyways, which is usually faster than I realized that there was even a patch to begin with.

That makes me the third. I'm 7/8 Bloodfang and just need the pants. We stopped doing MC days ago and I've been left trying with pugs to no avail. After the last pug couldn't get Rag after three attempts the other night, I finally accepted that my original goal would probably never be met now that the Xpac is here. :|

Is anyone else extremely impressed with the content and how well Blizzard handled the release? My server had zero downtime, it was awesome. The patch, was the same two patches that were released before so if you had them on your comp already, it goes really quickly.

realtively speaking yes, but it was still very laggy in the Honor Hold area... almost unplayable, but forgiveable.

Frosstbyte 01-17-2007 03:49 AM

You really didn't miss much not playing tonight, PT. Definitely a significant amount of server instability on quite a few servers. Hellfire is both awesome and completely retarded all at the same time. I like the demons running around and the siege equipment and all the portals, but the landscape looks EXACTLY like Blasted Lands all over again, complete with the boars that I hated the first time and have no love for in subsequent iterations.

That being said, the amount of quests available and the breadth of options amongst them are nothing short of astonishing. I split my night between grinding blood furnace and hellfire ramparts and questing and had just a blast doing both. Bombing runs are A+ (as are the ludicrously good trinkets that come as rewards from that quest line). Ramparts is a litle weak, but furnace is down right amazing. Cool fights and you get to peer down on Magtheridon from above. Pretty sweet. I'm halfway through 61, I stayed up WAY too late tonight.

And I can't wait to do it again tomorrow!

Uhh, lucky you. Installed, had the 130mb patch still on my machine. The 2.80mb patch was not. Took over an hour to download. I have no idea why. Tried to google the filename and got nothing, so I had to wait for it.

At 6pm log in, goto the dark portal, all is good. Then, about an hour or 2 later, my server becomes unstable and is down every 5 minutes until after midnight. Not very well handled in my opinion.

The only thing they did right was provide enough copies so that there were no shortages unless you wanted the CE.

YaWhateva 01-17-2007 11:35 AM

Sorry to hear about your problems with server stability. Altar of Storms was up and running perfectly.

Also, it's sad and awesome at the same time that I am already replacing my epics and blues with greens this early in the expansion.

And yes, the bombing runs are fantastic.

Which I interpret as "We're using the expansion to clear up our customer service backlog, tough shit."

I've already installed TBC, I love my guild, & I'll be a hypocritical asshole if I don't cancel my account and give Blizzard the virtual bird.

Decisions, decisions

hulk 01-17-2007 01:42 PM

You're sure as hell not hurting them by cancelling, you know. Might as well just keep having fun :P

Lasereth 01-17-2007 04:46 PM

Run Hellfire Citadel for 2 weeks and you'll have tier 2 equivalent already. A rogue in my guild lost all of his tier 2 and his perditions from a keylogger. He was gonna quit but then saw the loot that you get in BC and simply started doing HC immediately.

It's true, I have definitely upgraded in HC.

StanT 01-18-2007 01:40 PM

My dilemma really isn't about the gear. It's all easily replacable. With the guild's help, I was MT healing on Nef 2 days after getting hacked.

I run a full set of firewall, virus, and spyware products. I also block process creation and scripts. I've analyzed Hijack This logs and come up with nothing. Ya, I could do more, but I believe that my system is considerably more secure than the average Blizzard customer.

While the gear is easily outclassed in TBC, the fact that I am unable to find a security lapse makes it likely that this will occur again. Blizzard's inability or unwillingness to restore the account is what makes me reluctant to continue.

That said, TBC looks pretty cool and I already have several pieces that surpass my T2. I'm somewhat ashamed that I haven't given Blizzard the virtual finger.

Cynthetiq 01-18-2007 02:04 PM

I recently was asked via an email to answer a survey from WoW recently. Most of the questions surrounded around security asking if I'd be interested in a secureID/softID solution or some other multiple password system.

If it costs me more, I don't think so. If I have to do more then no I'm not interested.

FWIW, It's a game, it's not my bank account.

StanT 01-18-2007 02:58 PM

I seem to be on most of their shit lists after a few less than complimentary posts on their customer service forum. No suprise I didn't get the survey.

If it's simply a minimal 1 time charge for a key fob or similar, I'd pay. Getting hacked seriously cut into the fun factor of the game. I'd also be willing to lock my account to a single user license for WoW. A simple one way hash of account name and WoW key ought to be fairly secure and virtually free to implement. A choice between the 2 would be better, yet. Need portability, pay $20 for a key fob.

Cynthetiq 01-18-2007 03:22 PM

my wife didn't get the survey... nor did a number of my friends, one of whom was hacked.

my point is that you've taken more than reasonable actions to protect your system and them implementing yet another layer won't make it any safer.

people do online banking and other personal stuff with less security. seems kind of silly to implement something like this on virtual goods when real money and credit is far more powerful and damaging to lose.

Drider_it 01-19-2007 12:28 PM

another point in fact that most over look. A friend of mine before i quit wow got his account jacked. they used both ventrilo and team speak.. one asshat was given control of the voice servers for a month .. your ip is logged this way .. everyones so im lead to believe.

the fool lost his account due to hacking .. which really isnt hacking. they are just using a tool to get results. there really isnt any real hackers left in the world.. most are too lazy and use someone elses creations. script kiddies i like to call them .. but i degress back to topic

thing was he used the ips to snoop on peoples systems that didnt have protection and such. only thing we could think of. seeing how in two days he got his epic mount and was using alot of boe purples and blues he didnt have before and what not.

after talking to the idoit for over a month, we found out hes 15 and cant afford jack. so he didnt ebay gold. then we looked over our chat logs. the officers in our guild had a mod that would time stamp and log guild and raid chat.

the person whos account that got jacked, logged in on every toon then in 4 hours was back on and claimed thier stuff was gone off every toon. sigh including our guild bank toon on that account with 5k or so guild gold.

after blizzard looked into it. everything mostly was restored except for the gold and the loser got his account banned.

we can only think it was due to ventrilo or ts

Hahaha, same here. I'm at work now, but I'm off at 2 EST and can have the rest of the day to level. 21 BE Rogue atm.

Reese 01-26-2007 01:26 PM

My disp/shadow Priest just hit 66 last night and I got Shadow Fiend which I'm loving. The mana regen it gives has already saved my life a few times. Hopefully I'll get to 60 before the alliance and horde end the cease fire :)

Scorps 01-26-2007 02:26 PM

I almost 65 maybe tomorrow, got some badass crit gear on my mage now 4 hits to kill a 65..not bad

Crack 02-15-2007 05:57 AM

Well, after a week of being 70... it's still fun. Caverns of Time is a riot.

I half way to 70..kinda got stuck on 67 for 3 days...but the ball is rolling again. I like how ever hit from my mage is a 2K+ crit and I never miss:oogle:

Yeah, I'm with you there. Hillsbrad especially was a lot of fun, I loved going to Southshore and seeing Ashbringer and Kel'Thuzad, even Helcular!

YaWhateva 02-15-2007 12:02 PM

69 here and planning on getting 70 by Friday if work permits and then getting keyed for Karazhan this weekend. I went slow for awhile because I stayed in healing spec up to 65 and I've switched to a shadowpriest to finish off levelling, the grind has been probably 3 times as fast.

Can someone help me? I know NOTHING about WoW, but my son plays endlessly. We are having a real problem with his computer and don't know what could be causing it. While playing WoW, his computer will - for no reason - restart. We tried deleting all excess programs he never uses, Word, Excel, etc. Didn't help. We re-installed WoW. No help. We even went so far as to do a complete wipe of his hard drive, restored it to "fresh as the day it was born", then re-installed WoW again.

Nothing helped so far. I'm afraid he'll get so mad one day he'll pitch the PC off the desk.

Any clues? Their "support" was less than helpful.

is it really hot in the room?

I discovered that our apt just got hot enough to cause misc problems. new CPU and VGA card fans made the problems go away.

Sounds like either a power supply or overheating problem. My guess is either the CPU or the Video card is overheating and the system fail safe kicks in and restarts the computer to not hurt any vital parts. Just a thought.

Halx 02-15-2007 01:45 PM

When a computer restarts like that, it is as the others say: an insufficient/failing power supply or excess heat. My computer used to do it all the time.

Frosstbyte 02-15-2007 02:01 PM

My guild has dissolved into cliques and lacks any coherent leadership. I'm getting really tired of not being able to buy my way into any Karazhan groups. I've got all my heroic keys, but no one wants a hunter in a heroic group.

Having a lot of fun farming demons for Aldor rep, though. Right?

intecel 02-15-2007 10:11 PM

I'm sick of all the rep farming that's needed in this expansion... You need heroic keys for 4 places to get pieces to get into the final dungeon.

Not that I'll ever see the final dungeons on my warlock unless I get out of my guild. I'm one of 3 lvl 70s.. I've been 70 since day 9. I think we have another 10 people that are 60 to 69...

I haven't found anything to do over the past few days, so i dumped alch/herb on my shaman and got him from 0 to 350 tailoring in 2 days... Those new bags sell pretty good.

evil_twin617 02-16-2007 06:36 AM

Overheating, hmm. Never even thought of that. Thanks for the advice, I'll work on it this weekend and see if it helps.

Scorps 02-16-2007 08:44 AM

Woot hit 70 last night now I can get some sleep and fresh air :D

Crack 02-16-2007 11:42 AM

New Balance Druid Record Starfire Crit: 3890 (in PvP)
Record Wrath Crit: 2652 (also in PvP)

715+ damage
7120 Health
8340 Mana
21.83% chance to crit in Laser Chicken form

With Raid buffs (int and kings), I can pop both of my Trinkets at the same time and be well over 1100 + damage 4200+ Starfire anyone?

I 2-shot a lvl 69 "bird man" type mob the other day on a quest. I was grouped with a pally, and he went to attack it, before he even made it to the mob it was dead.
All he said was "w...t...f..." I just said, "oh, I crit. Twice"

Reese 02-17-2007 06:01 PM

Laser Chicken form FTW?

I havent gotten to go yet because the guild I want to raid with starts 30 minutes before i get off work and I'm the only one attuned in my guild.

I'm loving end game shadow priest. I have a little problems keeping up with mages on the DPS on the trash pulls but I make up for it with my sweet mana and health restoring dps on boss fights.

lately

lately my favorite thing to do has been using my mindcontrol hat in warsong gulch.

i love grabbing a hapless defender to help me out of their flagroom. my favorite targets are hunters because their teammates step in their traps by the flag or pallies because they slap blessing of freedom on me.

its fun on defense too. i'll be midfield and when i turn around and see someone runnin with my flag, i'll pop the hat on him and have him follow me back to my flagroom like a stray puppy.

finally the meanest thing i think you can do is grab a hunter and have him help you kill his own pet :D

Reese 02-23-2007 02:01 PM

We finally downed Moroes last night. Only took us 2 days :) I got Signet of Unshakable Faith woot!

I don't have a good mainhand to go with it yet so I'm using The Essence Focuser with a +30 int enchant on it. I'm definitely looking forward to getting a better mainhander from either Shattered Halls or Maiden of Virtue. Maybe tonight!

Scorps 02-24-2007 11:14 AM

Thats a nice set-up...I need a new dagger for my mage, but the green I got is better then some blues

Orange 02-24-2007 06:34 PM

70 Night Elf Rogue on Lightning's Blade. Fiery Warhorse's Reins dropped last night in kara... but no rogue loot :(.

Bah Mindcontrol cap has lower chances of working at levels higher than 60... seems unreliable to me. But then again I am a rogue and prefer to sap one target and 30/0/31 combo nuke another... Two others :P.

P-Naughty 02-26-2007 10:26 AM

I had a 60 NE rogue main and a 60 Dwarf Priest. "Sold" my account for 300. Now I'm back, still on Detheroc.

I have just begun to start looking at this game, and from what I can see, I would be wasting my time. everyone is level 70 or so, and me, starting as a newbie would just get wasted.lol. Not to mention that it looks like it costs about $20 per month to play? thats CRAZY.

Well, there are a lot of new people that play all the time. While there are a lot of 70's there are still a lot of new lower level people. Also, about the getting wasted thing, if you join a non-pvp server you can be as free as you want. PVP servers are much funner though.

Mage: I used to love getting to SW and getting in through the underground and raping people. There is a spot underneath there that if you jump down, you will fall into the portal room, haha.

-Ever- 03-01-2007 10:05 PM

Yeah I cancelled my account today. Too much guild drama, too much of the same old stuff, too much real life stuff to take care of :\

Redjake 03-02-2007 04:29 AM

-Ever-, just don't start deleting all your characters. I've seen so many people do that. Why in the world would anyone do that? Blizzard will keep your character pretty much forever. I'm sure you know this, though - I remember you've been playing since the beginning :)

Yeah I guess if you count getting mugged as you walk down the street "fun"

as far as guild drama is concerned, it's always there since well other people are involved and that's what people like to do, create drama.

Scorps 03-02-2007 11:00 AM

Are guild has had 5 people go this week alone..a druid tank because the bear form nurf, and 3 priests but we are not short on priests thank god. And a rogue.
