Download Xbox live content without a subscription
I remember reading that if you hooked up a network cable to your xbox you could download the updates without having to have the subscription for xbox live. Does anyone have any more information on this?
I tried using search but didn't come up with too much of use. Thanks |
Wow...I'd really like to download the extra Ninja Gaiden content. Can anyone confirm this?

Never heard of this before. On Bungie's site in an article about a Halo 2 update available (via Live), they say if you don't have Live, you can still get the update. Either take your XBox to someone's house who has Live or have someone save their Live account to a memory card and load it on your XBox. So I doubt you can just plug it in, but couldn't hurt to try.

If they don't they should.
I'd love to get the extra stuff without having to slough off the membership fee first. I mean, I bought the game, right? Why isn't the extra content "free?" |
Expansion packs aren't free. And technically the maps are free anyway, you just need to have an Live account so you can get to it. It kinda makes sense..
You can be pretty sure OXM will get the stuff on their disks as well, like they did with Splinter Cell. |
I plan on trying the "plug and play" update method this weekend and will let everyone know how it goes.
|
I am pretty sure you need an XBOX Live account, because they bill your credit card when you purchase updates. But for those free updates it could be possible to get them.
|
You can't download any of the Downloadable Content for Games without Xbox Live for the most part, however, the Official Xbox Magazine sometimes has some of the (free) content (this excludes updates/patches for games, they HAVE to be downloaded from Xbox Live) on their demo discs from time-to-time.
|
yeah i tried last night, you need a subscription or how else r u suppose to get onto xbox live?!?! they won't let you do anything until u register.
|
Well, in this case I think it's appropriate to say, "Curses foiled again" Microsoft got the 1 up on me this time.
|
Unfortunately, Bungie said they weren't going to put their patch on discs, so you'll need Xbox Live if you need that tv fix thing for Halo 2.
It took ages for OXM to put the Splinter Cell missions on disc, hopefully they are more experienced and could get other content on straight away. |
i wish that were true but if you are holding out from getting an XBL subscription then ur best bet would be to system link your console with some1 who has a subscription and download the content from them
|
how do you transfer thuns through a system link? My friend has an xbxo live account and the ninja gaiden bonus packs but the can;t be copied to a memory card so i can;t get them of him. Do you know of anyway to get aorund this?

Extra being the operative word. |
Most if not all updates are for "Live play only" anyway so there really isn't any point in allowing non-subscribers to download the content. Only "extras" I can thinkg of are Splinter Cell, Brute Force, Armed and Dangerous and KOTOR. Also, I'm pretty sure that any extra content for single player games comes out on the OXM demo disc within a month or so of when they are released on Live. If you have a huge need then just use one of those 2 month free trials and download all the extra stuff then call and cancel your account.

if you're looking for roster updates and such I believe you can get them through www.xbox-saves.com , i believe that's the site. Too much shit to do to check, but it's along the lines of that. You may be able to download them and then download to your box via ftp.
|
If anyone wants free XBL...yes totally free...Send me a PM
|
You can download content with a free 2-month subscription that comes in some if not most xbox-live capable games. I got a 2-month subcription in a double game that came with my xbox.
