Metroid Prime 2
Finally got my copy!
But uh... this sucks because I won't be able to play until 10 PM tonight... probably not even then because I have a calc assignment to do :( The game itself looks pretty bad ass with the mirror world.. light and dark. Screw attack is finally back! But looking at the story, it doesn't appear that Mother Brain is back, which sucks. The original Prime was damn good, probably the best game I've played since Ocarina of Time (aside from GTA), but damn, why not include mother brain?! |
Because Mother Brain is, er, dead? Prime runs alongside the other games, remember?
But, man, I'm so fucking stoked for this game. And RE4 when it comes out. And I want to pick up Gladius as soon as I can find it. And mb X-Men legends. And F1-2002. Goddamn I need a job. |
I loved Metroid Prime. It was the first Metroid I had played, and since then I've played Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission. I love the franchise. We just got back from picking up Metroid Prime 2. I can't wait to get to the first save point and here the Metroid theme. :)

Man, you should check out Super Metroid if Prime was the first you played.
Super Metroid was one of the best games for SNES ever, alongside Zelda and the Final Fantasy series. |
I'm getting behind.
Now, to decide between Sharn & Complete Arcane or Prime 2.... |

Also is the only FPS game that mades me dizzy too.  |

Too bad our alternator chose today to screw the pooch.
I will get MP2: E.....someday....*sigh* |
I was going to get mine imported from the US but with the amount of games I've bought and have yet to play I think I'll wait for it's December 3rd NZ release date :)
But when it comes I'll have no other games to play, thank god! |
I miss the side scrolling games... everyone is going 3d and all that but Prime lacks the game play of Super Metroid... something about metroid screams out to be a side scroller.
Anyone else feel this way? Ohh yeah buying Metroid Prime 2... bought a game cube for twin snakes and Metroid Prime (only 2 games I can see that aren't already on my ps2!) |
Prime was my first Metroid game... I had been waiting Prime 2 for so long that I put Super Nintendo Emulators on my Xbox and started playing Super Metroid. Its amazing how much it plays like the 3D Metroid games.
I haven't picked up Prime 2 yet. Probably will today. EBgames has a deal where you save $20 if you buy Prime 2 and Mario Tennis :p |

I don't feel so bad now  I get a slight headache and severe nausea from playing the game. It was a lot of fun, but I just couldn't keep playing it. It made me want to throw up. |

I really like the way scanning was updated.
It kinda sucked to have to pinpoint those lil red/orange squares. Not it highlights the entire object in blue so you can't really miss it! |
I've got a friend who also gets vertigo from FPS games. And my monther-in-law almost threw up and had to go sit down watching me in a flightsim dogfight. Must be pretty common as games get more realistic.

I got NFS:U2 yesterday and have played it for like 6 hours yesterday and 5 hours today! I will try and get some time on it tonight:) |
If you like the metroid prime series wait till you get a chance to play it on the Gameboy DS, its just as much fun and looks flipping great. Play is going to take a little time to get use to but its nice to have the main display on the top screen and have a running map/stats/health/objectives on the other screen.
|
i've got paper mario and prince of persia to clear before i buy mp2... but this does look sweet. most of the reviews say it's just a continuation of the first prime only with more gameplay and graphical refinements. if that's true, it still sounds like a stellar game...
going back to play super metroid if you missed it in the SNES days is definitely worth it. |
EBgames has a deal where you get a $20 mail in voucher when you buy both MP2 echoes and Mario Power Tennis.
I picked em up yesterday :) |
mods please delete me!
|
I've been playing it some over the past few days, but not enough to satisfy my craving. I just Spoiler: got into a dark area and got the sapce boots. I picked this game up wednesday, and I'm only that far. How pathetic is that?
|
Yeah, I'm not too far.
I *just* got the ability to open the amber doors. |
I just picked this game up like an hour and a half ago, and was able to get a good 45 minutes play in before my parents wanted to watch the tv. So far its a lot of the same which is a good thing. I'm excited to really get into this game.
|
i still have to get prime :(
|
I think the control scheme they chose for Metroid Prime captures the feel of the originals decently. In a first person shooter, aiming is lauded with the focus on the mouse and keyboard, but with MP, the autolock takes care of that. In the platform games, you're not worrying about aiming so much as just shooting what gets in your way as you jump around.
But alas, I couldn't finish MP either. Got my ass handed to me at the Phazon Mines. |
I'm about 28% through it now.. haven't had much time to play, but I'm gonna try to have it beat by this weekend.
Boss battles are pretty neat, too! What's odd is the HUGE HUGE bosses aren't all that hard once you figure out what you need to do to beat them, but it's the smaller ones that give you trouble. |
I'm picking this and WoW up today and maybe the new DS since Game Rush is giving 45 bucks in trade in on the SP....
|
sorry to bring back this old thread, but i didn't wanna make a new one. if you have a gamecube, and you don't have this game, then ur wasting your gamecube. THis game is incredible. I got it for christmas, and i love it. The multiplayer seems a little thrown together, but it's still good enough considering that it is mainly a 1 player game.
If you don't have a gamecube, go out buy one and get this game, thats how good it is |
I was JUST playing it, I got it for Xmas too. The single player has a little too much backtracking, but it's still amazingly addictive.
|
Backtracking is a staple of the Metroid franchise ;) If you know what you're doing, then the backtracking is really minimal. Wandering aimlessly is more of a danger.
|
Agreed, the backtracking does a few things: More places are accessible that previously weren't because of powerups like Morph Ball Super Bombs and Space Jump boots. Secondly, you go back to earlier areas and own the enemies that were giving you trouble before. It's much more satisfying than getting a super weapon at the end of the game that you only end up using on the end boss.
|
I've heard that they amped up the difficulty across the board of critters and bosses in MP2 compared to the first. Anyone care to confirm or deny?
And FngKestrel, did you make it to the elite pirate or did the mines ice you before you reached him? That was my least favorite area in all of MP. Drove me up a wall. But I kicked its ass, eventually. Sweet sweet 100% completion. Can't wait to do it for MP2, too. Oh, and for fuck's sake, anyone who hasn't, get an emulator and play Super Metroid. It's arguably the best side-scroller ever made. You'll be happy afterwards. I have a save file for the last area and I've finished the game at least 20 times. It just puts a smile on my face. |
I can't remember how far I got exactly in MP. I remember the phazon mines and getting my ass handed to me. I think I might have gotten to the pirate, but I'm pretty sure I was already half-dead by the time I reached him.
Can't confirm anything on MP2 because I've been playing KOTOR2. :D |
Difficulty? Hmm, I'd say the starting difficulty for MP2 is about the level it was at Magmoor Caverns in MP1, and ramps up at about the same level. The boss fights are great, for me at least, once I figured out the key it was almost plain sailing. You still have to be careful, but if you're a MP1 vet you shouldn't have much trouble.
