Diablo 2 and D2: LOD
I just purchased Diablo 2 and the expansion pack online. As I'm waiting for it, I want to ask you all your opinions on the game, and what type of game it is. I've never played Diablo, and I figured I might as well give it a try. I'd appreciate both positive and negative comments.
Oh yeah; is it anything like Fallout? |
Diablo is an amazing game!!! It's kind of an RPG but not quite....to check out some pics check out www.battle.net or www.blizzard.com
|
I love Diablo, it's by far my favorite game out there. You get to pick a cool character, get awesome items, and fight the hordes of hell (who are often female and mostly naked), really what could be better? :D
I've never played Fallout, so I can't really compare the two. |
I still play, lvl 90 lighting sorc
sorry cant compare to Fallout |
I still play the game sometimes. I love it. Running around killing all kinds of bad guys, getting newer and better equipment as you go along. It's like an RPG with a different engine. Play it.Enjoy it. Love it.
|
It's really a solid game thats very fun.
But prepare to get addicted to internet play. The never ending quest to get the best character with the best items will probably consume you, like it has done to many of us here in the past. |
It's ok. The online component stole a month of my life a couple of years back, but remember there are far better online games out there.
|
Diablo 2 is great, although I'm in the minority of not liking the online aspect hardlly at all.
As for comparing it to Fallout, it's absolutely nothing like it. Diablo story is "kill diablo" for the most part, and it's game play is rapid click to swing/spellcast. For post Fallout happiness, I highly recommend finding a copy of Planescape:Torment while you can. I'd also recommend BG2 if you haven't played it, but Planescape probably comes the closest to actualy recreating the Fallout fun. |
Oh yeah; another question: Is there a monthly service fee to play Diablo 2 online? Or is the software the only required purchase?
|
nope. Playing on Battle.net is completely free!
|
i have played both diablo 2 and lod for a long ime, somo and on the battle.net
the game is fun,and it has a great longtime motivaion.th cut scenes are great, but the story isn't that good.but that doesn't matter, because you don't play the game because of it's story, you play it because of it's principle that makes highly adictive. i suggest you should first play it offline,to get into the game mechanics, and that you schould play it on battle.net. |
I played Diablo from version 1.01 to version 1.10 and they really changed the game alot. Every patch seemed to nerf a popular class and make a different class uber powerful. This would piss you off it when your uber character was nerfed into oblivion but it also kept the game fun because it gave you new sub-classes to play.
I don't know if the game is better now or not. The only thing that kept me playing the game at patch 1.08 was the ease of item farming. 1.10 made the game harder and it was fun until the new wore off then it became tedious and lost all of it's replay value, to me anyways. I did everything there was to do in the game. I had multiple level 99s of every character, 1.10 just gave me incentive to quit :) Battle.net was a great place but it seems hackers are more active than the server security now. I really hope you like the game, but I think you would have liked it ALOT more if you had picked it up a few years ago. |
too bad you started so late, if you had started earlier, you couild have sold the items you found playing the game on ebay for lots and lots of money.
|
Thanks for all the responses! This really helps!
A few years ago, I was in high school, focusing on my homework (yeah, right!) and basketball. I didn't have time for any online games except Ragnarok when it was free. Graduated in '02; I believe D2 was already out then, no? |
I've played since it first was released. It's an amazingly sick game and I'm no hardcore rpg player or anything. The only thing that will ruin it is getting caught up in playing with hacked items or playing simply to better your character (IE killing the same boss over and over). Try to stick to playing by the story line and get immersed in the different acts (There's 4-5 acts). And don't get into being "Rushed" which is rush leveling in which a very high level friend helps you through the game and gets you experience really quick. The fun part in the game, as said above, is the character development so stick with it and take your time ;)
Man I wish I could be playing that game for the first time (See my "Will there be a Diablo 3?" thread ;) ) -T |
Its timeless. Find friends who have it and play together.
Oh, and its nothing like Fallout. |
I still think the Diablo 2 cut-scenes are the best in gaming. WC3 possibly holds a candle, but dang, I still remember those mini-movies vividly. So well done!
|
Blizzard has always had a knack for cut scenes. They have pretty well mastered the art I think. They tend to be the thing I get most excited to see at first. The opening cinematic to WoW only supports this belief. <3
|
its fun for awhile. too much play makes it really boring though =/
|
I hope you like clicking. A lot. No, really. A lot.
|
nono ALOT ! haha :)
|
i love playing diablo trying too finish up my necromancer now for PvP(player vs player) and its also good for killing monsters...all and all its a very fun game=)
|
GREAT GAME! GET IT!
|
Just got it in today. I must say I'm a bit disappointed about the limit of characters per 'game,' but this is very enjoyable overall. I started up a Necromancer named CityOfAngels, so feel free to seek me out!
Update: Ok; I know I've been forewarned, but I am hooked on this game. I'm barely a level 9 Necromancer, but I still have that feeling that I HAVE to get better and better. I fought against a level 9 sorceress last night and I kicked her butt. We agreed not to fully kill each other, though, so essentially it was play-fighting. I had quite a bit of trouble fighting against that blue fallen demon guy. I lost a shit-load of money from dying in battles against that guy. Oh well, time to head back! |
Alright I finally found one major downside to this game. I was playing through a level, and what I like to do is clear everything on the map before I move on to newer areas. Well, these guys come into my game and start rushing to complete every single quest as fast as they could. There I was, teleporting back to town because my inventory was full and I needed to sell some items, while this guy is saying, "SHIT! COME ON AND HELP ME DAMMIT!" I'm like, "Calm down my man. I'm selling off my stuff so I can pick up more stuff." And he says, "Who cares about the shit! SHIT! Help me dammit!" Totally killed it for me, and I figured I might as well "Help him" by leaving, which would in turn weaken the enemies.
I dunno...I like to explore. I like to pick up new items, sell 'em off, and use that money to buy better items. I want to actually play through the game; not just zoom through it, killing all the main bosses. I like to clear the maps of every nook, cranny, skeleton and spear. So frustrating, these people are. <-- They even have me talking like Yoda...ARGH! |
Create the games that you play. Title them something like 'A1Q2 No Rush'. Either that, or password protect them. You'll have less of a drop rate, but the enemies will be at their normal strength, and you'll be undisturbed by all the 'Rush?' 'Rush4Forge?' 'RushU4Itamz?' crowd. Please, take all the time you want to go through the Acts and complete the quests. I can point you in the direction of many resources to research stat and skill point allocation, and item descriptions. And, if you ever want something steamrolled for you in the game, just PM me.
|
If you prefer playing by yourself, why are you playing online? Playing single player you don't have to deal with lag, and you can use the "/players X" command to boost the toughness of the monsters (and the experience you gain) if you want instead of getting other people to join.
|
Beyond password protecting, you can create a game and set the min and max character level for other people so high levels can't come in and mess everything up.
|
It's sort of hard to start off in Diablo 2 online as a new player because most of the people playing it have been doing so for a long time. They prolly thought you had as well and weren't worried about the story aspect and already had good equipment.
As for my experience playing it, I got a sorceress up to about level 76 and a necro to level 63, both with all unique or very good rare equipment. Fortunately I stopped playing for a few months and my characters were deleted. If I was able to get them back I'd probably start playing again, but I don't want to have to go through all that stuff again. Good luck, Diablo 2 was one of the most addicting (in a good way) games I've ever played. |
you will find that battle.net is chock full of back stabbers and wanna be script kiddies. i only play on private servers but thats just me.
the game is old but still fun to play. in 1.10 patch all you need is a character that can get to act 1 hell in the tomone highland there is a mini dungeon there.. called The Pit clear both lvl 1 and lvl 2 and hit the chest in lvl 2. due to new codeing there are area level treasure class spots where all the critters are uber item drop levels. you can get any item in the game in them. in the pit you will find fire immunes, cold immunes and lightning immunes. I use a poison nova necro, javazon (amazon with jab and lightning fury.. it will even kill the lightning immunes but just a tad slower) or a assassin trapper using death sentry. just ask for a rush and go on.. also the act boss for act 3 mephifisto or however you spell it is good for tanking with a sorc. just max blizzard and its synergies.. drag him down to the stairs and teleport across then stand abit back and nuke him with blizzard. he wont attack you if you stand just right and he drops good stuff in nightmare and hell modes. magic find gear is a must. for cheap.. get 3 socket helm and 4 socket armor. and put in 3 perfect topazes for 74% mf in the helm and 4 perfect topazes for 96% mf (magic find) in the armor and go killing. dont use progs like bots or maphacks on battle.net servers it will get your accounts locked. (although ive used maphack for 3 years and never lost an account yet) baal runs are what gives you the exp.. just lvl to 24 ask for normal ancients then go do baal in normal till your like 40ish then repeat in nm.. hell is hard though so take your time. god i know way to much of this game than is healty for a person |
The game is awesome. I have played this game so much that if I was presented with my total game time I would probally cry. Only complaint is that the game can become repetitive because after beating normal difficulty, nightmare and hell are pretty much so the same. At first its cool but the lack of variation in locations between difficulties is a big downside.
|
yeah after you get to like 90 its basically over.. all you do is kill certian stuff for the gamble of a good drop.. why 90? the experience gain drops soo much that you have to be in a full party killing baal in act 5 just to get any exp at all.
btw necromancer .. max raise skeletons, skeleton mastery, maxe summon resist and get a might aura merc from act 2... they own put the pts in what everelse you want.. i suggest pts in bone armor and bone wall.. never ever put any skill pts in bone prison.. you can get marrow walk boots and get a lvl 33 synergy in bone prison with no pts put in it.. its a bug but was blizzards fault dont think they fixed it yet also trang ghoul set... it has a faster cast bug.. full set you dont have any faster cast at all no matter what items you get. |
Ripsaw and gduventree: I don't want to play by myself. I'd just rather not rush through the game. What I do is set the level difference at 4 to decrease the chances of some uber-players coming in and wiping everything out super fast, but once in awhile you get those guys with "uber-setups" that like to just rush through it all.
And thank you all for your responses. I've been reading them all, and taking your advice. Although I heard it's best to put points in the golems 'cause when I get Blood Golem, I'll be having LOTS of fun. |
If you care at all about the game, do not even mention the word "rush" in any way. Enjoy the game on your own time. You'll start not liking it when you begin rushing through things and treating it as a job rather than as an enjoyable game/storyline.
|
My Necromancer is now at level 16, and I just completed Act 1. The desert town in Act 2 looks pretty cool. Can't wait to check out what critters I have to kill next.
|
I remember the first time I got so excited the first time I went to the Arcane Sanctuary in Act 2. Mm
(dont think that's a spoiler...) |
Gald you are enjoying it.
I for one didnt care for it at all. I did not hate it...but I NEVER and still dont see what all the hype is about. Online was pathetic. How many times can you kill the same boss mob over and over until its gets old? Playing through it once, was fun. Nothing groundbreaking. The coolest part? The FMV. Thats it. |
When I first started to play, I did the entire game by myself in Single Player Mode, completing every quest, getting stuff, etc... I just did it in Normal because doing again in Single Player on Nightmare then Hell would seem like a waste of time. But after I became very comfortable with the game, I went Multiplayer, I basicallyed "Rushed" all the way through the game to Hell, and spent most of the time in password protected games beating up Mephisto, etc... Good times. I still find some of the best times I had in multiplayer were doing simple Act 5 (in the expansion) runs in that huge ass field. Killing everything, not picking up much except yellow/gold colored items, and doing it over and over and over again. The game is so addicting it's ridiculous, especially for the lack of stuff you actually do in the game.
I myself find Act 2 the most annoying Act in the game, but have fun with it, it gets better, especially in the expansion in Act 5, which I think is a great add-on, but maybe not worth the 25 bucks I paid for it! Although, the other people are right, once you get your Necromancer up to like level 85-90, and get all your godly items, etc, stop playing him, make another character (different class) and start all over again! It'll be like playing it for the first time again. |
