Everquest 2

We've posted a bit about the beta...any fellow TFP'ers plan on playing it on release?

I'm establishing the EQ2 branch of a large, multi-game guild called Shadowclan. Membership is open, there's no application mess to muck through. We'll be roleplaying Iksar who fight to return to their imperial glory from the poverty and servitude that we'll be starting out with.

The link to my plug for the guild on another message board is below. Hope to see some of you in the game, as friend or foe.

I played EQ for about a year. Haven't played since 2001. I am thinking of picking EQ2 up next week to try. Not completely sure though. My wife may kill me if she sees the box on the computer desk. :)

Anyone pick this up? I know I won't be getting it any time soon, computer limitations, but I still want to know if its any good.

I can't see myself ever trying another mmorpg. I played the first one for such a long time. And it was such a waste of time. Ended my career 2-boxing and soloing big name old school mobs. Trakanon, vox, naggy, venril sathir. I was even starting to do Dain, tormax, vindi, and hitting some Luclin zones with brother and I 2-boxing. I hate that game now. It burnt me out and made me hate most mmorpgs. Plus, I couldn't imagine trusting sony customer service. I'd be interested in seeing how well this game does, but I still will never play another mmorpg.

I just can't imagine an MMO without PvP. For example you say you are going to roleplay the Iksar who fight to return to their imperial glory. How can this happen without conflict? Market dominance by having allot of good loot? Okay it works in the real world but it's very boring. Plus if you can get some fancy sword so can any one else of the same level. PvP is differnt, if you are the best warrior on the server, then no one else can take that away from you as long as you keep your micro skills and brain working. Just my opinion, I know allot of people like the whole chat, make friends, do quests together type of gameplay. It's fun, but gets very pointless.

Hidee ho everyone :)
Pretty excited, I get my new and more fantastic puter tomorrow...
...and I might start playing my very first MMORPG, after seeing the EQ2 trailer...
Any tips for new role players ?
My hubby has played these RPGs forever, speaking of which I have a question for you married online gamers :
I'd like to hear from anyone who's had ingame relationships with other characters. I've been trying to understand role playing, OOC and IC chat, all that stuff literally for months but it's too new to me to understand. I admittedly need to learn more about it, especially going into EQ2 as my first kick at the cat. Do you marry and stuff in that game too ? How's that work and what is the purpose of doing so ? Please fill me in !

I got EQ2 for my wife and she luves it! She is a hardcore EQ player. At first she didnt really want it cause she is at level 68 or so on the first one. But she says its excellent and she would know. Now my damn kid wants to upgrade to EQ2 also! Hes been playing WOW as a test and says he wants EQ2 over WOW.So now im off to Best Buy to buy another EQ2 for him! They are killing me! Wish there was a way to get the code without buying another one.

I didn't play the first EQ, I came over to EQ2 from Lineage 2, but I'm really disapointed in it, and after the free 30 days expire I'm done with it.
I don't like to hate on games for the sake of it, but I just found EQ2 sooooo boring and really juvenile, like a kids game. A lot of things about it were impressive: graphics, the complexity of the cities, character development. But without compelling gameplay...what's the point?

JSwiss 11-17-2004 07:32 AM

I'm not an EQ gamer, but a few of my coworkers are. Apparently there is a big change in terms of characters you're allowed to have in EQ2. In the first, you had 8 character slots per server you were a part of, in EQ2 you have a total of 4 slots regardless of what servers you are on.
Just wanted to throw that tidbit out.

I love EQ2's graphics, especially some of the character models. I'm too obsessed with WoW to change over now though. I enjoy WoW's soloability even though EQ basically taught MMO players how to group (something WoW definitely lacks...most of the players in the game are freakin morons).
