when asked what is the first cheat code that comes to mind??
here is a little fun game
the first cheat code that comes to my mind is the classic "up down left right ba start" what cheat codes appear in your mind instantly when asked |
all of the codes for Mortal Kombat 3. I usually don't "cheat" in games until I've beat it, but Mortal Kombat is one of those games that cheating is ok. Because it's MK.
|
IDKFA
'god' is too obvious to be a cheat code :) |
Up up down down left right left right B A start.
There is no SELECT in the goddamn Konami code, no matter what Gameskins shirts would have you believe. The second code I think of is: JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------ |
R1,R2,L1,R2,L,D,R,U,L,D,R,U
Vice City - Weapons Cheat |
iddqd(doom) or ilm(wolfenstein)
|
Definately the Contra code. The select is just so that you can do two players. Also, the Street Fighter II (SNES) code to get the to play with the bosses.
|
buddamus - sim city 2000
down R up L Y B - street fighter II |
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, baba start
Not sure I'm remembering that right. Let me check the thread... Are you sure it's only one ba ? |
up up down down left right left right b a select start. Yes it's all about the two player Contra goodness.
|
A, B, A, C, A, B, B. Mortal Combat blood code for Sega Genesis.
|
Quote:
But yeah, the Konami code is the first I think of as well. UUDDLRLRBA(Select)Start |
yeah, Konami code definitely. Full power ups in Gradius, as well as the 30 lives in contra.
Yes, there's a select in it for 2 players. Right after that, ABBA for Ikari Warriors. (continue) Anti-cheat code: idkfa in Heretic :D |
uuddlrlrba start
that is the code that will get most of the votes on here :) who the hell did not play the living piss out of that game back in the day? |
IDDQD: God Mode in DOOM
and POPQUIZHOTSHOT: Replenish Life in Earthworm Jim on the PC? |
Rosebud- The Sims, 1,000 Simoleons
|
IDDQD God mode in Doom
First cheat code I have ever learned by heart. (I have a really bad memory) |
poweroverwhelming
|
ABACABB for me too. That was the first one that I remember actually having to practice to get it right. It's almost second nature now.
|
The Konami Code for turtles three.
|
"The code" ..
|
I have to give honorably mention to Shining Forces 2 codes for being probably the biggest pain in the ass code to enter, ever. I still remeber sitting in front of the Genesis for 10-20 minutes trying to get the damn codes to work yelling and cursing like a madman the entire way. Sometime me and my brother would even make a contest of it to see who could make it work first.
During Sega Logo. Secret Configuration Screen. Up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, up, right, down, left, up, B. Or the even more dreaded battle select. Up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, up, right, down, left, B, C, B, C, B, C. Good times. |

Sonic 3 thing:
Something like up up down down up up up a b start I remember it because I never could do it. |
two. up up down down left right left right b a start (contra, obviously), and a b a c a b b .. the blood code for the genesis version of mortal kombat.
|
It seems IDDQD is more popular than i thought. Now, can anyone remember the noclip code for Doom 1?
|
IDSPISPOPD?

iddqd from doom2 :E and lumberjack from either warcraft 2 or age of empires two, cant remember which
Also Impulse 101 for half-life :D |
Power Overwhelming
There is no cow level - Guess where these came from :) Many hours wasted on this game Operation CWAL The Contra Code for Gradius 3 blows up your ship but if you use L and R instead of Left and right it gives you powerups :) I remember a few more but those are the first that come to mind. |
konami code
The only game I ever played with my brother was contra with that code. |
Contra Codes :D

|
idspipopd is the one that popped into my mind first
|

JUSTIN BAILEY |
Another vote for the classic Contra Code, actually that is the only cheat code I can remember..

"LAPMYLOVEPUMP" from Carmaggedon, though I don't recall what it does. I think it turns on the cheat codes.
|
Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, B, A, Down, Right, Right, B, A, Start.
Power up fire and power up dunks, from NBA Jam TE (SNES). |

Two always come to my mind:
A, B, B, A, C, A, B: Shadowrun's "debug mode" code (Genesis) A, B, A, C, A, B, B: Mortal Kombat's blood code The reason these always come up in my head is because I spent sooo much time trying to distinguish each one for their respective games. Shadowrun and Mortal Kombat are two of the early games I purchased for my Genesis system, and I played both all the time. I finally came up with the following to distinguish 'em: "They're both pronounced "Abacab." Shadowrun has really crappy music (this is when I think of that looping track whenever you go into the bar in the Redmond Barrens and that voice keeps saying something like "Shuttenlouf!" or "Shut yo' mouth!" or something like that), so I relate Shadowrun (remember, crappy music), with ABBA. ABBA has two B's, so Shadowrun has the code that starts off with the sequential B's. Then I think Mortal Kombat's code is the "blood code," and "blood" only has one B, so that code must be the one that starts with only one B." Yeah I know it's kinda a long and drawn-out relation, but to this day, it NEVER fails! (Yes, I still play Shadowrun on my Sega Nomad). Oh yeah: The GTA codes get an honerable mention, since I've gone half a year without playing any GTA game and when I started back up again, I still remembered the codes. Here are the ones I remember: R1, R2, L1, R2, Left, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Right, Down - Weapons code (first set of weapons). R1, R1, Circle, R2, Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down - This gets the cops off of your ass. R1, R2, L1, X, Left, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Right, Down - In Vice City, this only replenishes your armor. In San Andreas, this gives you full armor, health, and $25,000. R1, R2, L1, Circle, Left, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Right, Down - In Vice City, it restores your health. This code was abandoned in San Andreas. |
Well, the Konami code was the first thing that popped into my mind, followed by IDSPISPOPD... followed by IDDQD and IDKFA.
For bonus points - the acronym in IDS... stands for "Smashing Pumpkins into small piles of putrid debris." |
god has to be the first one I really remember using on the pc.
|
The contra code for me too. Also suckmyrocket from gta1, i think it was all weapons full ammo.
|
"Porntipsguzzardo"
The $500,000 money cheat for Sim City 2000 (mac only) First cheat code I ever used. |
Lol I love that there is an arguement in this thread as to if the Konami code validly contains [Select] as one of its buttons :)
|
R1,R2,L1,R2,L,D,R,U,L,D,R,U
Grand Theft Auto....I have typed this in about 10,000 times |
up,up,down,down,left,right,a,b,a
mortal kombat 2, ithink |
The Konami code man. I even have the T-shirt.
|
The only cheat code that springs to mind for me is the blood code for the original Mortal Kombat for Genesis. And you all know it already. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, B, A, Start.
|

IDDQD was what popped into my head when I saw the title, but I think the code I used most was +shootall in Total Annihilation, which isn't really a cheat code; it just sets your bots to attack every enemy structure rather than just the turrets and factories.
|
Black Sheep Wall
First thing that came to mind for me. Star Craft - Removes Fog of War and uncovers the entire map I think. |
operation cwal
lumberjack robinhood |
'black sheep wall'

|
Contra, Doom and then Sims. Yes, in that order. :)
|
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Select, Start
I believe it was a Contra code, probably for infinite lives, but I actually forget what it gets.. |
I'm not sure which game this was I think it may have been for mortal combat for the megadrive to access a cheat menu, it was called the dullard code
D,U,L,L,A,R,D Hence the Dullard code. |
There is only one cheat code I need when I play a video game:
3008db630000 Game Shark code for invincibility. Barbie Explorer PS2 |

Thats the one I was going to pick. |
That code was pretty odd though.. (JUSTIN BAILEY)
The second you got an energy tank, you had em all. And wasn't there something else... if you picked up a missle, it kinda screwed you up? Hm, it's been a while. |
Glittering prizes, Warcraft...1? 2? I forget now.

Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire
Infrared To get an overhead infared veiw. Press the following at the same time: All four C buttons, L,R,Z, and Left on the control pad, NOT the control stick! Then move the control stick a little right until you here a blep, then a little lest until you here a blep, repeat until you see everything go green, If you entered this code correctly you will see all enemies and yourself dark green. To de-activate this code Press the same thing you did to activate it. Hard because you basically have to use your nose to get the control stick where you want it. |
IWANTITPAINTEDBLACK
I like driving black cars in Vice City. |

I also remember the trick for Megaman 3 that let you high-jump and jump out of pits if you held down A on the second controller. I had that thing taped down for weeks. |
What was the Sonic Debug code? That was always the best IMHO. I think it was up, c, down, c, left, c, right, c, up, down, start.
|

StarCraft =) |
No XYZZY?
This cheat appears in many old-time games. You will know that it work if the game responds with "nothing happens" and nothing happens. However, in some games (minesweeper for example, if you press right shift after you enetr the code, the top right/left pixel of your screen will change color over a bomb), it is broken, and something happens when you type it. Here's some history for you hooligans: http://www.rickadams.org/adventure/c_xyzzy.html |
down R; up L; YB; select; start
Oh yeah baby....Street Fighter 2. Classic 2D side-scrolling-hadukenning-sonic booming-ass kicking fun!!! Long live the Dragon Punch. |
how about r + up up (scorpion's finishing move from MK 1). Also, lmi from wolfenstein
|
Contra haha. Everyone still remembers that. I think that's so cool I've run into so many people that can just shoot off that code no problem. The Doom God mode one is good too, I didn't remember it but when I saw the post I was like "shit yea that rocks".
