Free XBOX live for two months
 

hey just wanted to let everybody know that you can get a the free two month trial of XBOX live at blockbuster. Went to my local blockbuster and looked inside the case for the manual and there it was, the free trial card. Nobody's going to use them if i don't so I grabbed two, one for me and one for a friend. Too bad you can only use it once for each gamertag.


Also get the yearly sub for only like 19.99. Just look around the microsoft site, they have a promotion going for people who work at retail stores. Supposedly they don't check, but i'm sure everybody knows at least one person that works in one of the stores they list.

Great deal, I got mine from the official xbox magazine about 4 months ago. But you still should buy the headset to communicate.

eh, i'm not into the whole headset thing. Would most out there recommend it though? They also have a deal for the headset pack.

The headset is hit or miss. It really depends on who you're playing against. I lost the head-clip thingy so I can't use mine, but I haven't had any problems with it yet. Most of the people who I've played against are either waayyyy too nice and polite (which is hard to deal with when your smashing them in Madden and trying to be nice back) or just talk shit endlessly (and usually quit once they start to lose).

Disclaimer: I pretty much only play Madden online, so I can't comment on the headset's usefulness in games where you have a team and need to communicate. I imagine it would be far more valuable then, though. It does work well when I do use it.

I haven't had Xbox live, but I am interested in it. With this 2 months free, do you still have to purchase something? Is live worth the $60 a year?

Anyone know if standard headphone/mic sets work with the Xbox or is there some proprietary shit going on with Microsoft?

You'd have to use a headset that's for a cell phone, its one of those tiny connectors.

no you don't, but you have to cancel before they automatically start charging you. I would say that if there are games you want to play online and you have the necessary connection then most definitely get it. Although at 60$, i'd have to question it. Go look for the promotion though, i do think it's worth 20$ a year. I am getting it just in preparation for Halo 2, although my lil bro wants to play madden and nba live and mvp and such. Also, i think burnout would be awesome if it supports live

The cards aren't TECHNICALLY free but...
From what I've read, it looks like you can get free ones by going to blockbuster/hollywood video/wherever and when in the aisles looking at games opening up the box adn taking the card out of it. I wouldn't know, I just bought the xbox live starter pack, but it sounds like it would work.

I got something like that when I bought Burnout 3...but it doesn't matter I don't have XBOX live......................yet!;)

yah... do as i say. Go to a rental place and just take it. I found a good amount of them although a few were already expired from last year. They just go to waste anyways if you don't use them. I got two already.

edit: Wait, I don't promote stealing or anything, I asked the guy who worked there and he said he didn't give a shit so whatever. Sames goes for the manual, everybody takes em and never returns them.

I used to have xbox live when it was beta, and then i carried on over after it was retail and then just didnt play as much any more and stopped it.

Now that halo2 is coming november 9th, i decided to splurge for the xbox wireless adapter ( i found it for 64.99 $ with free shipping and it retails on ms's site for 109$ ) so i went ahead and ordered it.

Now what i really want to know more about is a yearly subscription for 19.99? I thought it was like 60 bucks? Also, the free 3 month is good for people only if they have a headset. Without the headset your missing some of the best parts of live, and of course when you run into like 20 12 year olds some of the worst parts, but all in all, it makes you really love xbox 10x more. I had a blast playing MotoGP on the beta as most of the people were mature and racing and talking smack at the same time to live people was just great.

Anyways, with any game ive recently purchased for the xbox, theyve all had one of these cards.

If anyone knows more about a yearly subscription and how i can scam that for only 20 bucks, id definately be interested because im fixing to spend 60 before the 9th.

ouch.. deal ended the 29th. sorry guys, didn't know it was ending this early. I guess i'll just use my free trial until either a new deal comes up or i'll just spring for the full amount.
