Oldest Game you currently play

Playing anything that isn't Doom 3?

I personally have Theme Hospital running every other day, day some of the diseases are funny and it makes a pretty good management style game. We really need a newer version without the bugs, better graphics (at least a 4 way rotatable iso view) and a cooler multiplayer. But now that Bullfrog has been absorbed by EA.. i'm not sure who would bring a sequel without it looking like a rip-off.

Transport Tycoon is also installed with some of the newest addons. The community surrounding the game is just huge, people have made it much better (with TTDPatch) and now there are dozens of new graphics sets with new trains, buildings and more. Although the community has dwindled a bit whilst Locomotion has been released, it is still thrving and new stuff is being made. But i've been playing it for 10 years now.. so it is losing it's playability.

Bongomanrae 10-17-2004 11:34 AM

I still have Quake 2 set up on the home computers for some old computer lan gaming. As you say, the community has been around so long that there are a million addons and mods that just enhance the experiance so much.

Confederate 10-17-2004 12:41 PM

original dark forces, full throttle, and the original tie fighter

adysav 10-17-2004 12:58 PM

If this had been about 8 months ago I'd have been able to say Theme Hospital, TransportTycoonDeluxe and Quake2. Had a big clear out recently, still playing Diablo 2 though.
This PC can't handle Doom 3 anyway :|

Wanderer 10-17-2004 01:16 PM

I still go back and play old genesis games like Shining Force 1 & 2, Shadowrun(I wish they'd make a new one), and Pirates Gold every once in a while. The oldest PC game I still play is probably Civ 3.

ForwardtoDeath 10-17-2004 01:41 PM

warcraft III

Arc101 10-17-2004 02:19 PM

I still play the orginal Bards Tale on my PC. This game was made in the early 80's. Still a great game.

Rodney 10-17-2004 02:23 PM

Battlezone (ported to OS X). Debuted as an Atari arcade game in 1980, later ported to the game console and other platforms. It's a little shareware thing that I keep around to while away a spare few minutes while something's printing. I played it back in the day, so it's a trip down memory lane as well as a game.

zxello 10-17-2004 02:55 PM

suikoden, the original

gorilla 10-17-2004 04:03 PM

Nothing on PC, but I still play Duck Hunt on NES... i love that game

Rdr4evr 10-17-2004 04:12 PM

NoLF 2.....and it sucks, I can't wait till I beat it, if I actually decide on playing it anymore.....stealth my ass.

Rabid Bunny 10-17-2004 04:14 PM

Chrono Trigger or Link to the Past, I forget which one came out first, I can't be bothered to check.

fordluvr 10-17-2004 04:16 PM

I am in the midst of my period dusting-off of the original Dune. You just can't beat the classic real-time war strategy games. Next on my old-school redoux list: Command and Conquer.

10-17-2004 04:25 PM

stuff on emulators.. i played capcom vs. snk on kawaks yesterday for a round woohoo! was bored. any metal slug on kaillera is damn fun though!

molloby 10-17-2004 05:06 PM

Dungeon Keeper 2 Woooo!

I get most my FPS action from Forgotten Hope, man I love that game.

runtuff 10-17-2004 05:13 PM

One vote for Dune.

freddy b 10-17-2004 06:18 PM

blood omen legacy of kain the first one for psx

pacaveli 10-17-2004 06:28 PM

hmm prolly Unreal Tournament - the first one
or starcraft

mkultra 10-17-2004 06:36 PM

I got a copy of SCUMMVM running on my computer so I can still rock out with The Secret of Monkey Island and all the early LucasArts adventures like the Indiana Jones games, Sam and Max, Full Throtle, and Day of the Tentacle. I'm still miffed that LucasArts canceled both the Full Throttle and Sam and Max sequals, those games go down as some of the all-time greats.

"How appropriate, you fight like a cow!" -Swordmaster

sadistikdreams 10-17-2004 06:42 PM

Pong. I've got one of those plug and play things.

YKK 10-17-2004 06:55 PM

lufia 2, d00d

sushiboy 10-17-2004 06:57 PM

soldier of fortune 2

Suave 10-17-2004 07:03 PM

The oldest that I have around and sometimes play is Fallout 2. I would be able to say Civilization 2, but I lost my disk. :(

The oldest that I play on any consistent basis is good ol' Half-Life (primarily the mods though).

Ace_O_Spades 10-17-2004 07:18 PM

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

ATM

bltzkriegmcanon 10-17-2004 07:34 PM

I'd say that the oldest game I'm currently playing consistently is Battlefield 1942, and it's best mod, Desert Combat. I like to keep things fresh.

piesen 10-17-2004 08:18 PM

Mohaa and DC Mohaa being my favorite and the oldest

NeoRete 10-17-2004 08:30 PM

Recently discovered Grim Fandango, one of the last games from LucasArts before they started milking Star Wars universe for all it was worth. Usually play FPS when I have the time, but made an exception in this case. Even now, the game doesn't seem that dated because it has good plot, and beautiful graphics that don't need amazing resolutions to look decent.

jamessh1 10-17-2004 08:39 PM

a little while back i jump-started my snes and went through Chrono Trigger, still my all time favorite RPG.

pottsynz 10-17-2004 08:51 PM

Snakes II on my nokia. Thats gotta be ancient :)

fugue_life 10-17-2004 10:00 PM

Final Fantasy 1, Global Ops for the pc

remedie75 10-17-2004 11:30 PM

Warcraft 1-3 im familiarizing my self with the story before WoW comes out

Kadath 10-18-2004 05:18 AM

Hmm. Total Annihilation is always on my machine, as is X-Com and Star Control II. Railroad Tycoon II is also hanging around. I love the old stuff.

Gortexfogg 10-18-2004 05:26 AM

I love playing Civilization 1. Sometimes when I'm in a conquering mood I'll just sit down and play for couple hours until I rule the world.

WarriorBuddha 10-18-2004 06:25 AM

I still have Diablo II on my system and play it every once in a while. If I had a system that could handle the newer games I probably wouldn't though. Although it is one I would come back to every once in a while. I love that game.

MPower 10-18-2004 06:27 AM

A Day at the Races, Sundog and Dungon Master on an Atari 1040.
On my PC, Stars! and Star Control II

Ripsaw 10-18-2004 07:06 AM

Diablo 2.

Can't handle the new software.

FatherTed 10-18-2004 07:34 AM

Alpha Centauri is still good for me. I'd still play Railway Tycoon if I still had it I reckon

silver26 10-18-2004 07:39 AM

Command and Conquer's Red Alert 1 & 2 and Tiberiun Sun.

glytch 10-18-2004 07:53 AM

I'm a little ashamed to say this, but I recently started playing ZORK for the first time....

Scipio 10-18-2004 08:37 AM

Alpha Centauri

Illuminaire 10-18-2004 09:17 AM

I've still got the original XCom on my computer. I swear, that game is probably the coolest and best designed squad-based / tension game ever. Takes a bit of work to get it to run in XP, though.

I'm always playing the old Squaresoft games too. Secret of Mana, FFIV, FFVI... hell, FFI for that matter...

Dengar 10-18-2004 09:19 AM

Chaos Overlords

toilet_duck 10-18-2004 09:28 AM

Eight 10-18-2004 01:36 PM

Civ 3 :) Ermm cant think of another

VitaminH 10-18-2004 02:07 PM

Starcraft. I keep getting re-addicted. Plus its still my opinion that it's the best RTS ever created.

keam02 10-18-2004 03:50 PM

if MS Solitaire doesnt count...then it is Counter-Strike. 1999 wasnt that long ago. I love this game, I play it more than any other game. In fact, I only play CS and Mortal Kombat: Deception, and I play CS a whole lot more.

high_jinx 10-18-2004 04:23 PM

just got a ps2 disc w/ a ton of my favorite classics.... paperboy, 720, marble madness, sinistar, joust, gauntlet, and spy hunter to name a few of them... all original arcade versions, all on one disc... unreal.

Dane Bramage 10-19-2004 08:40 AM

Still play Neverwinter Nights online several times a week.

And every so often, I will load Lords of the Realm 2. Still one of the best TBS/RTS games out there.

tornhelm 10-19-2004 09:21 AM

I have a list of old games I have around for whatever mood I am in, here is my current list:

Role Playing Games: Lufia 2, Shining Force 1 & 2, Chrono Trigger
Turn Based Strategy: Defender of the Crown (Old game I first played on the C64), Warlords I & II, Civilization I & II
Real Time Strategy: Command and Conquer (Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert + expansions), Total Annihilation, Warcraft I & II, Settlers I & II & III & IV
Sim Type Games: Theme Hospital, Sim City, Sim City 2000, Sim World, Sim Ant
First Person Shooters: Quake, Quake II, Ultimate Doom, Doom II, Duke Nukem 3D, Redneck Rampage, Blood

Blistex 10-19-2004 10:51 AM

Metal Fatigue: It's about 5 years old, but I still think that it's one of the best RTS's out there.

Dark Forces: The original! For some reason it always seems to find its way onto my pc. Hell it's really old! I used to play it with a boot disk on my 386. It's got to be almost 10 years old.

Redjake 10-19-2004 11:28 AM

chrono trigger, SNES

cheeterbo 10-19-2004 12:15 PM

robotron 2000 can't stop

walkerboh4269 10-19-2004 05:26 PM

Well I still play my chrono trigger on my snes ever now and then. If i am looking to really kill some time old school I play Castlevania:SOTN on my PS2. I know its not that old but it just probably one of my all time favs.

lpj8 10-19-2004 05:45 PM

My dad brought over his old intelevision a few months back, so I've been breaking out Frogger, Dungeons and Dragons, Snafu, and Asto Smash. It brings back a lot of great memories.

DarkPho 10-20-2004 06:45 AM

Well, since i made my last post, i'm rolled out an Mega Drive Emulator. Now i can play Hellfire again! The game and console are sitting in my cupboard, so it's all legal and fun too!

Anyone else remember Hellfire? It's by far the best space shooty thing i've ever played. It has a great system of changing direction of fire that i haven't seen in anything else since.

Paradise Lost 10-20-2004 06:51 AM

Tecmo Super Bowl - NES (Emulatorized) circa 1992.
. Best Football Game Ever Made, why stop playing it because the roster is from the 91 season?

Blistex - Dark Forces, the original, is the greatest.
Hooked up my joystick to that for smoother gun movements, before mouse was really
big in DOS games, just awesome.

portwineboy 10-20-2004 07:12 AM

Alpha Centauri here as well. If I can find my MOO2 disc I'll load that up.

Although I did play Galaga in the laundromat yesterday. Been 20 years I think since I played it at an arcade style machine.

IT COST FIFTY CENTS! wtf? I can watch the dryer for almost an hour at that rate. Prolly not as much fun though.

shadowalker 10-20-2004 07:26 AM

Every now and then i load up nato commander on my c64 which is still working like the day i got it, Its the only game i still have for it that still works.

antisuck 10-20-2004 08:56 AM

I recently reinstalled Doom2 and Half-Life and played through them for reasons of nostalgia and to get into the "mood" for Doom 3 and the impending Half-Life 2. Don't know if that counts, although I must say I've played through Half-Life many times over the years. It's like an old friend now. :)

Jay_Jay 10-20-2004 12:48 PM

I've been playing the original Zelda on my computer, and loved every minute of it.

Dungeon_Shade 10-20-2004 01:05 PM

My list for the oldest games that I play are all the Half-life games and mods. I play Halfl-life every day of my life (sad huh?). I also like playing the older Rainbow Six games, AVP2, and I still play Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. I really wish the new Jedi Knight game didn't suck as much as it did.

mikeylips 10-20-2004 05:02 PM

Final Fantasy I from the the Final Fantasy Origins disc for Playstation one. The game's simplicity is addictive and gaining levels to beat bosses is so satisfying.

xepherys 10-20-2004 09:29 PM

Legend of Zelda, the occasional Super Mario Bros. 2, some Atari 2600 action when I decide to plug it in. Ahhhh, nostalgia!

Mr. Munchy 10-20-2004 09:50 PM

Sonic 2 for Genesis, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for N64... Other than that I guess Halo and Starcraft count. Oh and curse Roller Coaster Tycoon for sucking me in again, that game is disgustingly addictive... And it's not even that great.

wecantstop 10-20-2004 11:47 PM

thps 1 on the ngage. i guess its old lol

Irishsean 10-21-2004 01:02 AM

Go

molloby 10-21-2004 01:20 AM

GakFace 10-21-2004 01:40 AM

Contra!

HeWhoHasNoName 10-21-2004 02:17 AM

System Shock 2, 'Hockey' for NES, X-wing...

Oh, and Earthbound. Gotta love Earthbound.

poopermcgraw 10-21-2004 03:35 AM

Broke out the Secret of Mana recently for some 2-player action. On PC, I have Diablo 1 installed for some reason. Now that's an oldie, first computer game I got into really, besides old old school like the Star Control series. Now and then I break out River City Ransom on the NES emulator. Man I loved that game as a kid.

boredom 10-21-2004 08:35 AM

Im still mudding does that count?, if not Paradiso for the arcade back in like 1994

Bliz 10-21-2004 08:42 AM

Arr! The oldest game I'm playing is Pirates! Gold. I'm looking forward to the remake (although the cartoonish look is a bit worrisome).

xepherys 10-21-2004 08:53 AM

Yeah, I don't understand the draw with RCT either, but every so often I just have to install it and waste many, many hours playing it. *sigh*

azrhei 10-21-2004 09:28 AM

Master of Magic for PC. Its a pretty old game, but still (IMO) one of the best fantasy/strategy games ever made. I would love to see a modern sequel to the game. Coincidentally, if anyone is looking for old classics, there is a great place to find some of the oldie-but-goodies.

http://www.the-underdogs.org/about.php

They have older games available for download, for free, directly from the site. They only allow downloads of games that are no longer commercially available. You can read about their site mission directly on that link. Warning, pop-up heavy site, highly suggest depleted uranium popup-blocking armor.

I started to play GTA 3 again(can't find GTA:VC) gotta get ready for GTA:SA;)

vangelis 10-21-2004 07:02 PM

On PC the oldest game is probably System Shock 2, or Diablo. I think they came out around the same time. On console I just beat Chrono Trigger and am working my way through Lunar: Silver Star Story.

For PC I mainly only play older games now a days if only for the reason that that's all it can play. Well it plays CS well enough :p

blixew 10-22-2004 07:45 AM

Curse of Monkey Island (come on, what game has a funnier pirate song!?!), Minesweeper and Freecell

silent_jay 10-22-2004 08:50 AM

I have emulators for everything from NES to SEGA Saturn so I still get my old game fix.

animal909 10-22-2004 09:58 AM

Gradius on emulator and also double dragon. woot!

MSD 10-22-2004 10:25 AM

Zork, Space Invaders (no imitations accepted!) and Commander Keen. Wolfenstein doesn't work too well on a fast computer, but I play occasionally.

AndTylerToo 10-22-2004 12:53 PM

I've played through both of the Fallouts many many times, and I'm makin my way through #2 again. I was so depressed when I heard that Interplay was going under, but then I was INCREDIBLY happy when I found out that Bethesda bought the liscense for Fallout 3 and is gonna continue it!!! GO FALLOUT 3!!! Aka Van Buren
