what games gave you that holy #$%* factor
What games have made you think holy #@$% when your playing or watching or when something crazy in going on in the game??
for me it was BF1942 when I first saw my friend playing it i was in shock  and he was only playing the playable demo I could not believe a game like that was made...I never heard of the game before but I was just amazed at the little mini war that was going on with planes, tanks, people etc etc. As soon as that game came out I ran to buy it. Another game was CS I went to a LAN center back when it was in the betas and I was so hooked after that... wow Another was while playing FF3 (6 in japan) when the big <insert spoiler here> happen....I never thought that would happen ( I guess the people who played ff3 will know what I am talking about :p ) PS: sorry about the censorship I don't know if you are allowed to swear |
Fuck yes, you are allowed to swear. BF was a great game, I loved that. Uh, LSL was original so that was a holy shit factor..
|
When Kefka B.U.T.W., Spoiler: aka Blew up the World, I specifically remember, as a fifth grader, saying, "Holy shit!"
Now after replaying it, I'm at Kefka's Tower already, and although the game is still great as ever, that incident didn't have the same effect on me. |
Probably in Half-Life, when Spoiler: a zombie pulls one of the scientists into a vent. I'm sure HL2 will have many more holy shit moments to come.
|
Dragon Power for NES
I played for hours. Beat the last guy. Game gives a range of choices. I mistakenly chose "Eat a Sandwich." A FUCKING SANDWICH. THAT'S WHAT HOURS OF MY LIFE AMOUNTED TO. WATCHING A POORLY DRAWN DRAGON BALL Z CHARACTER EAT A FUCKING SANDWICH. God damn the original 8-bit terrorists who designed that blackhole of gameplaying time! |
I had a LOT of "holy shit" moments in half life.
|
Clive Barker's Undying. Scariest game I've ever played. I won't give it away, but there is a setup in the very begininning (in the demo too) that literially almost made me piss myself. If you ever get a chance to get it, I highly recommend it. Especially if, like me, you are a fan of Lovecraftian horror.
|
The original Splinter Cell when America is under attack, holy crap it felt sooooo real! And whenever I faced a boss in Metroid Prime, I was all like "OMFG IS T3H HUGE I IZ S0 SCR3W3D!!!11one!". Not to mention how fast my heart would beat, I say this with complete and utter honesty and I don't feel a lesser man because of it.
|
Doom 3, though the novelty wore off after 8 hours of gameplay.
Half-Life, expansions included. I really liked the part when one of the scientists are running towards a soldier saying something like "Thank god you're here!" and then he gets shot, techno like music starts, and you have to fight past a squad of soldiers. Call of Duty. It's like living Band of Brothers. |
I have to go old school on this one... Adventure and Zork I. They were the first games I saw that attempted to simulate a world. My thought when I first saw them was, "Wow... I can do pretty much anything I can think to type in." Of course, over time you start running into the limitations of the text parser and the boundaries of the game. But that initial illusion of freedom was very convincing.
|
When I first played Donkey Kong Country
Man, those kind of graphics outmatch sonic 3  |
Fatal Frame, the whole game is a holy shit moment. Grainy graphics, bad lighting, and eerie music... not to mention that damn camera is your lifeline, when anything happened after 10 or more minutes of reletive calmness I would always fumble with that damn camera. I should have called the Ghostbusters and borrowed a proton pack, but noooo ...I took there pictures! The mood and frustration of Fatal Frame made it a holy shit! experience.
|
Holy shit in Knights of the Old Republic when I found out who my character really was. I mean, I was really like," Holy Shit! Shit! Shit!" for about 10 minutes. Only time I have ever done that with a game.
|
Being a old timer, the first game I saw which I thought looked amazing was Dungeon Master. I also thought Resident Evil looked so good I even brought a play station to play it on. Recent games have been things like Dungon Siege and Knights of the Old Republic.
|
The first time I went "HOLY SHIT" was for the oldskool command and conquer. I was but a young lad, and it was such a vast game at the time. The sheer depth of the game was a maze ing. It was pure coincidence that I didn't get into Warcraft first.
Recently, I was awed by rollercoaster tycoon 3. Not great graphics by any means, but if you've played and liked the other two, you'll understand. |
The whole of Call of Duty, but in particular the start of the Russian missions.
Crossing the river Volga under fire from stukka dive bombers, watching nearby boats blown to pieces. Scared soldiers jumping overboard and getting shot by their own crew. Once you reach land someone slaps 5 rounds into your hand, pushes you on and suddenly a deafening explosion throws you to the ground. You regain hearing just in time to hear a german machinegunner open fire on your position and you start frantically scurrying up the hillside while the bullets whistle past your head. I fucking love that game. |
Recently: Prince of persia: Sands of time.
The first battle scene when you learn how to use the dagger. PHOAR! Reversing time and sucking sand monsters into the dagger. Crazy stuff :) One of the original and best "holy shit" times: When i got zerg rushed for the first time at my first lan party. Up until then me and my friend always used to play terran over modem. At the lan we went teams against these other two guys who went zerg. They decided to amass nothing but the full unit limit of zerglings. Man looked absolutly fucking crazy, no chance for the newbie human players ;) |
Burnout 3 ! The crashes in the game are crazy.
And when the sanity meter in Eternal Darkness goes low, a lot of "WTF?"s come out of me. |

I'm the first to mention it?
How bout some Super Mario 64 action! It was the first game that gave me that "go anywhere, the level is your damn playground" sort of feeling. This game's impact is felt in hundreds of games since. I remember downloading an .avi of one of this game's first builds. It took me hours upon hours to get the little file with my 28.8 modem, but I remember watching in awe and anticipation for that game. Thankfully, I wasn't disappointed. |

|
The first game that amazed me was System Shock 2, I had just brought a new computer and this was the first game I ever played on it. The visuals were just so stunning (at the time ;) ) and the storyline and sounds effects etc all added up for a massive experiance.
Installing Unreal Tournament shortly after was also right up there but more for multiplayer reasons as I wasn't so  by awesome graphics, sound etc by then. |
Bubble Bobble for NES, that game was so amazing that I kept playing it. It's all some of my friends and I would play. I still play it sometime if I get really, really bored :p
|
Quote:
I should look into it. |
Multiplayer CoD is pretty fun, and it's gotten even better with the expansion.
|
MOHAA- the beach invasion/SPR bit. Coming off the boat and all your dudes get cut down, I wanted to get back on the boat and drive it away! haha!
|
This one has got to go to DooM The first episode shareware. it's kinda spooky all the way through, then I think it's level 5 you get stuck in a maze like bunch of corridors, I'm just running along blasting imps like it ain't no thing, then suddenly I hear the pinky munching noise & my screen is going red i turn around and there he is filling the corridor with his awesome pink jaws of death.. . that made me scream. Good times. Recently though the Insanity effects of Eternal Darkness provide dozens of What the Fuck & Holy Shit moments.
|
Half-Life, when I would get caught in the things that hang from the ceilings, I would freak out.
|
Fable. I liked it a lot....haha and Katamari Damacy oh man that's a pretty fun game
|
when i first saw and played a demo for oddworld's abe oddysee
|
When i found out that i was Reven in KOTOR.
When i first did anything in Ninja Gaiden, man you could do so much cool ninja shit in that game! |
In the catacombs level of Thief II, crawling around in small tunnels, trying to dodge the undead haunts that were clanging chains and making ghostly whispers. The sounds alone really brought the adrenaline levels up, and built up tension to the point where when I did come face-to-face to haunt, I jumped back from my desk.
|
the game was devil may cry, and I was fighting the boss which was this cat-like creature, that could change it's shape.
|
Oh lord... TONS of times
X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter: Having massively intense dogfights, then hearing over the com that... a Star Destroyer just jumped into the game, and yes, you will have to kill it. Fear Burnout 3: Basically everything Half-Life: crabbies jumping out of vents Thief 2: Sneaking around the police station Thief 3: CRUSH AND KILL AND CRUSH AND KILL AND KILL AND KILL I could go on, but i wont |
Ultima Online has had the most "Holy ****" on me. First time in the game
a fellow gamer showed me how to tame a bear. I was stunned. Then he proceeded by killing a deer and making me a pair of leather pants. A little later i was introduced in a big player run inn and here i almost bust some intestine laughing at the "Drunken Rhymer" contest that was held later that evening. This whole experience convinced me that i had stumbled on to the future of gaming ;) Later i was jumped by a pack of PKs, the ensuing adrenalin rush had me hooked on that game for 6 years. Other holy **** moments occurred in a lot of other games, here is a small list: Wing Commander (Graphics) Ultima Underworld ( The 3D'ish world) Master of Orion 2 ( the Challenge ) Command & Conquer (Multiplayer) Doom ( Multiplayer ) |
watching a cs demo for the first time. Bullseye ninja defusing in a 1v5 situation.
|
The final screen of Marathon Infinity. The realisation that you've just fought your way over nearly 100 levels, died a thousand deaths and all sorts of other wikkid shit. It rules.
|
Holy #$%* factor game...
Lame as it now sounds: 'Sonic the Hedgehog' for the Sega Megadrive was the fastest, most 'Holy #$%*' game that I had ever seen... unfortunately Sonic Heros for the Xbox had to be taken back to the shop the day after I bought it, how did Sega let it all slip away..?
|
Hrmmmm many many moments for many different reason. Here is a short list...
FF2 plot. I loved the ups and downs and many twists, that was a great game. FF3 plot & gameplay. Back in the day this game just had it all. I played it way too many times... FF7 plot, gameplay, graphics. At the time this game just blew me away. The CGI movies were incredible, the story was and is still in my top 3 all time video game stories. It was just a great game. FFX graphics. When I started playing this game I was in awe at the graphics throughout. Halo. The first time I saw this game is when you fly down onto the beach in the middle of a war. It really drew me in and I knew I had to get that game... Everquest. The sheer size and depth of the game. When I first started playing (at release of the first expansion) it was a truely revolutionary time in the game, everything was fresh and new. It was such a great gaming experience. Stole quite a bit of my time that game... DOOM3 for scare factor. The beginning of this game, before you get used to what is going to happen has quite a few moments to make you jump, and the atmosphere is great! Warcraft. My first RTS. It totally sucked me in. Diablo for the online play. I had so much fun playing this game with my friends. Good times. Ok that is all I can think of right now... Damn I played a lot of video games... |
Asheron's Call - many times i experienced holy shit moments...
one time was watching some jerkwad brag about how bad ass he was while we was pk'ing level 1 noobs at the training hall then watched him get backstabbed by someone's monarch who came to seek revenge. racing one mouthy jerkwad to get some loot and watching him turn in the corner and run into a massive mob which in turned sent him back to the lifestone. getting chased by huge rampaging tuskers... watching the white rabbit one shot kill monarch level players... |
Gran Turismo - I remember watching the replays of my Ford Probe or whatever after the first race, mesmerized.
Super Tecmo Bowl - my dorm-mates had a massive tourney, and I lost in the Superbowl, but it was a fucking intense match. Atlanta Falcons. Incidentally I found out I was Reven over the weekend, and I have to say, I wasn't all that impressed. I did see a clip of Call of Duty on tv recently and was thought "Holy Shit" |
LoZ:OoT - I already loved Zelda and my N64, that game had me gawking at so many different things. I still think its the most amazing game ever made. It is so clever, so perfect. I dont think any game like that will ever be duplicated or equaled.
The most recent was FFX. I dont have the time to play it, I wish I did, but the little amount I got through had me amazed. Nobuo Uematsu (sp? I think thats a good guess ;) ) is amazing, his music is amazing. It still doesnt bring the holy shit factor up to what I saw in LoZ:OoT. almost forgot...Everquest. The sheer magnitude of it amazed me for two years. I loved the game, but I got burned out after so long playing it. |

C+C the original, was the first strat game I ever played, still makes me go wow...
|
1)raziel in the soul reaver... i couldn't believe the look he had and the powers he came w... the shredded wings and the soul sucking he did was unbelievable.
2)there was a survival horror game i played on game cube w/ a friend one nite... the name of it escapes me... but it had an insanity scale and things would start to happen when it went up... like the picture of the tv would go on mute, or there'd be "memory card malfunction moments" 3)metal gear solid 2, when the psi-ops guy w/ the gas mask starts messing w/ your controller. |
Let's see. I'm not entirely sure by what you mean by holy shit moments. If it's something like "what are the scariest, most fucked up" moments in gaming then the following are here. If not, then I'll just have to post further.
1) Silent Hill. All the games. The entire experience. There's not one moment in those games where you're not saying "oh fuck." 2) Doom 3. Same thing here. Most of the game you spend shooting shit in reaction to just how damn scary it is. |
I have to agree with Dungeon Master. Awesome game.
also.. X-wing. It was like being in one of the movies. Mechwarrior 2. I had big speakers hooked up to the computer, and the boom/crash of fighting would shake my house. |
DOOM and Half-Life both did it for me. Plenty of "Holy Shit!" moments in both of them.
|
MGS for the ps1. The fights against psycho mantis and the ninja cyborg are two of my all time favorites.
|
Doom 3 has made me jump in my chair a few times. Clock Tower 3 for the PS2 can be just fucking strange at times and Undying was one of the best horror games ever for the BOO factor.
|
2)there was a survival horror game i played on game cube w/ a friend one nite... the name of it escapes me... but it had an insanity scale and things would start to happen when it went up... like the picture of the tv would go on mute, or there'd be "memory card malfunction moments"
Sounds like Eternal Darkness the game would trick you when your sanity went down. |
Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory - it was the 1st multiplayer game I played online (and I still think it is brilliant).
Amazing gameplay and all FREE ! |
Lunar 2 - "You mean it has cartoons?"
Out of this world - "You mean it's three D?" Final Fanatasy 7 - "Aeris?" I have to mention all of Call of Duty and Metal Gear Solid. |
Grand Theft Auto 3...when I first picked up the controller and started playing after the cut scene I was just so amazed at what was happening and the scope...it was incredible.
|
Doom 3 made me say holy shit plenty of times.
Zelda for N64 just because it was so fuckin awesome. And Diablo 2 the first time I saw Diablo run at me and throw fire at my poor Necromancer....Holy shit indeed. And I hate to say it but Star Wars: Galaxies the first time I went to hunt rancors and got jumped by force witches. |
Definately Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
The graphics just blew me away! Everything was so original and vibrant that I spent more time taking screen caps than playing it. Another would have to be European Air War. The first time I came across a formation of 20+ B-17 bombers. |
Recently: Doom 3 when I first started playing it
Burnout 3, the first time I completely head-on collided with a car/wall/whatever Metal Gear Solid.....the entire fucking game was constantly "wow." Splinter Cell - when you assasinate nikoladze (spelling?). "Sam, no easy way to say this, you have to snipe nikoladze from your current position in the next 5 seconds or the mission's over" OH MY GOD!!! equip equip fumble the control aaaagghh!!! Gran Turismo 3 - watching the intro to the game. holy fuckin' damn. still looks real. Need for Speed: Underground - doing my first successful drag race and winning with the nitro held down and the blurry graphics .....damn playing Donkey Kong Country for SNES - damn those were some good fucking graphics and gameplay rushing through the first level of Sonic Adventure at 80000 MPH.....holy crap first time playing Perfect Dark - boy that was some good atmosphere first time playing World of Warcraft.....do these controls and gameplay get much better? testing the Far Cry demo. I couldn't believe you could see the end of the level from the first step running over trees in Call of Duty with the tank. my GOD I've never felt so fucking badass. also, peeking around a corner in Call of Duty and seeing the panzershrek unloading holy hell into the air at the bombers up above at night.......damn, that thing rotating and hearing it constantly beating out shells, scary as crap biggest one of all, hands down: renting a PSX from the local video store (soon after it came out) with Resident Evil. I still get chills from thinking about that game. I was in sixth grade at the time, and it scared the living shit out of me and my brother and our friends for months. walking through that damn mansion and seeing the FMV of the zombie eating the guy and turning around.......damn....nightmare material |
Holy Sh*t Factor:
|
Doom 3
Diablo 1 (the last lvl was really dark and scary...) Giants (when you get grabbed out of hte air by a Kabuto) SERIOUS SAM : THE SECOND ENCOUNTER!!!!!! (EVERY LEVEL) |
Oh, jeez. There are so many games that made me think this. The first half of Doom 3 was a constant "Oh shit! Oh Shit! Oh Shit!" moment. Half-life had many of these moments as well, especially once I found out the marines were against me. The first huge battle with thme is amazing. Ride an elevator, music starts pumping, cue scientist to run out in front. Crates everywhere. Shooting. GAAAH!
Another game that did this to me was Deus Ex, when you find out who your brother is REALLY working for. That was amazing. In the original Tomb Raider, the first time I saw the T-Rex was a moment I will never forget. The funny thing about it is that it looks silly now. I also liked the booby traps. Alien Vs. Predator 2. Marine campain. 'nuff said. Rome: Total war. The first time I saw this game in action was glorious. The massive armies shooting arrows, flaming catipults, and throwing heads was amazing to behold. Halo's multiplayer and graphics in the day were amazing. I had many "oh shit" moments playing coop with a friend. When the flood appears, that game gets fun as hell. FFVII- Aries + Sephiroth. Once again, 'nuff said, as you all know what happened. Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. This was my first ever game. It is what made me realize that I would forever be a lonely person in my mother's basement. The light/dark side is amazing in that game. MGS2: The plot in that game had so many twists, that I can't tell how many thimes I said Holy Shit. Unreal's first look at the outside world was a MAJOR shit moment. Until that day, outside environments were unheard of. I literally sat staring at my screen for an hour after I saw what game engines can do. Max Payne's bullet time was bedazzling. I still enjoy playing that game, just to use the bullet time. Call of Duty: That game, when played on the hardes setting, is the most intense gaming experiance I have ever had. I literally became shellshocked on a few of that game's levels, such as Pegasus Bridge, Stalingrad, and the first few American missions. I thought that game would be a re-hash of MOH:AA, but I was wrong. It is ninety times better. MOH:AA blew me away with it's Normandy Beach level. This was the first time I realized how gripping a game can be. I will forever remember that level. I can think of more, but this post has gone on too long. |
It;s going have to be all those Quake 2 mods. They had soo many good ones,I can't remember the name of that one when you can play the aliens or the space marine.
|
In Freedom Fighters, towards the end there is a huge battle between your guerillas and the Sovs. I played that level 10 times just because I loved it so much.
|
Doom 3's first 15 minutes or so are pure terror, especially with the lights turned out.
In Jedi Outcast, when you first actually USE a lightsaber and you realize that for once a game got it right. Also, using the force powers Seeing Halo's graphics, and when the Flood is unleashed, realizing the game just got a whole lot harder. |
Diablo - Environment had a lot to do with it. My room in the house I was renting with some coworkers had no windows and was very dark. Sometimes those creepy dungeon sounds just got to me.
Half Life - A damn fine game. less than a month to Half Life 2, and I won't miss this one. Computer upgrades rock. |
final fantasy 7 because it had the first FMV's that I had ever seen.
|
Lets see here, games that had a "Holy Shit" moment hmmmmmmm.........oh Call of Duty, Doom 3, Eternal Darkness, and Lineage 2 just to name a few.
Call oF Duty: There was a lot but the moment in the begining of the Russian campaign, where you had to call/get in postion for the incoming barriage had me going "Holy Shit". Doom 3: the Holy Shit moment for this game was when i had to fight the Hell Boss(the boss you get the Soul Cube from), just seeing the size of this guy had me going "Holy Shit". Eternal Darkness: There were a few for this game aswell, but my fav has to be when a bug starts crawling on the screen then to be followed by a billion bugs. know doesn't sound like much but when you try to get up a brush the bug off your screen and you see like a hundred bugs pop on the screen it's like "Holy Shit". Lineage 2: Seeing like 30 people fight a NPC in the middle of the Dark Elf Mountain would make anybody go "Holy Shit". |
freespace 2
nothing beats the holy mother feeling i had in some missions where gigantic dreadnoughts battled each other with frickin laser beams 5 times the diameter of your whole starfighter and i'm sitting in one of a hundred starfighters trying to survive  |
You've mentioned so many I agree with, lots of games from the last 5 years. Right now I'm going "shit.. shit... SHIIIT!!!!" in Doom3.
But some older Holy Crap moments was enjoyed with Kings Quest, Incredible Machine, LSL, Myst and Descent. They made me a gamer for life! |
the most recent one would have to be call of duty.
i got the demo, played it, was astounded, especially the whole shell shock thing. had to buy it. same thing happened with far cry as well. Completely had not heard of the game, but it had a 500 meg demo, so i downloaded it just for fun. and was blown away, the day it came out, i had it. |
NES - World Championship Wrestling - There was a synthesized voice on the startup screen (that was a big deal back in the day)
Genesis - Joe Montana 2 Sportstalk Football - First game with real time commentary Sega CD - That movie clip video game with Dana Plato and the zombies SNES - Street Fighter 2 - My best friend and I probably played that game for 10,000 hours Dreamcast - NFL 2k1 - Saw it on a demo at Best Buy and couldn't believe how realistic it looked. Xbox - Facial models on NBA 2k5. No more cartoons anymore! |
I just remembered the Alien Swarm mod for UT2004. Next time you're at a LAN, you need to get this game going.
http://www.blackcatgames.com/swarm/ |
Definately the cinematics in FF7.... they look simple now, but at the time they were "DAAMMMNNNN" good. Other than that, all of GTA 3 - so much freedom, GTA3 still has more freedom that just about any other game out there 3 full years later.
|
Has to be Doom3. Half Life is a very good game, but Doom3 just takes gaming to a new level. However; I feel the Half life 2 will 'one up' Doom3.
|
Doom 3, up until it got repetitive and boring, so the 1st 5 minutes of it.
Final Fantasy Tactics' story made me go wow a bunch of times. I love that game. |
eternal darkness;; holy shit me the WRONG WAY;; omfg screen blanks out 'HOLY SHIT I DIDNT SAVE' -_-
|
Asheron's Call 1 - The freedom of movement and action was exciting (learning to jump on buildings in Holtburg, cliff diving); Trying to run away from level 20 monsters when I had wandered too far; the amazing sunsets, the giant bridge; the first time I did Elissa's Favor quest the graphics and danger were thrilling; when the statues started attacking the town I was in it was definitely a "holy shit" moment; the first time I made it all the way through the tunnels of OHN I felt like I had mastered a murderous alien race; many other moments
Pacman, Mrs. Pacman, etc. - The sounds, the action, the challenge River Run and all the 2D fly & shoots Smash TV! at the arcade; Holy shit, they're all over me! The original Legend of Zelda, whenever I would uncover a cave or staircase because I had worked so hard for it, it was such a revolutionary concept, and it was so immersive Ninja Gaiden at the arcade, Devil May Cry at home - for the cool moves it was easy to do Street Fighter 2 at the arcade, Tekken 3 at home - Rarely do games so richly reward taking the time to master skills Ancient Domains of Magic (ADOM) - It's amazing how much detail is included in the gameplay; the puzzles are inherent in the situation and nature of opponents and very challenging each time you play; when you finally win through overwhelming odds after starting over at the begining 83 times and are corrupted ruinously and have to start over when you're 75% done because it took you too long all you can say is &@## Baldur's Gate 1 - When you finally get to the town of Baldur's Gate its shocking how many realistic, interactive NPC's are around; it almost seems like a living city Fallout 2 - Apparent freedom of action; immersive plot; convincing dialog; unified graphical look Morrowind - You can do nearly anything; NPCs that act fairly believably, even changing as you change; fantastic ingame stories, both graphically and by ingame books Hello, my name is Michael, and I'm addicted to Holy Shit moments in video games |
I just bought MGS: Twin Snakes a week ago and completed it last night. This was the first MGS game I have had the pleasure of playing, and I must say, the entire freakin' game was FILLED with "oh shit" moments. The amazing plot filled with twists and turns coupled with remarkable graphics blew me away every cut scene. I wish Snake eater would be released on GC!
Next game on my list is "beyond good and evil", although I am in late on it, I have heard nothing but good things about it. Can't wait. |
goldeneye for 64.
best game ever! |
The first time I ever played "Hexen" online - in 1995!
It took me and my friend about 4 hours to figure out how to configure our modems in order to play one vs. one. It was a tremendous experience. (I won 43 to 4) [He only used the keyboard - sucka!] |
*Zelda: Ocarina of Time....when i got to walk and ride the horse across the countryside of Hyrule...first time playing a large mapped 3d rpg
*Metroid Prime...playing the final boss (both versions of it) *Metal Gear Solid 1...fighting Liquid Snake while he was inside of the MG bot *Metal Gear Solid 2...fighting the gauntlet of Metal Gear robots *Halo2 watching MC halo drop into the covenant ship before it hit Zanzibar...and looking at the huge map of Zanzibar while cruising on the bridge in the Scorpion....seeing the Scarab peel around the corner and waste that tank while standing on the balcony (thought i was in for a tough boss fight). |
bcnm fights in FFXI
Parry'ing all of chun-li's kick super in Street Fighter III First time I played SF vs. Xmen Winning against the General in Suikoden to help get all 108 members Winning a UT tournament in 2000 100 to 32 |
I think ascendancy by the logic factory was a winner, i first played it some time ago and since then only at random times, after a while it does sort of wear thin but when i first started playing it i felt nothing but sweet rapture.
|
Halo. 'nuff said.
Doom. Holy shit. Wolfenstein 3d. Got it when I was six. Never brought a gun to school or killed anyone. MGS. I actually started crying during Naomi's big monologue. FFVII. Again, crying when Aeris died, being pissed off as Sepiroth, feeling a strange, warm feeling during the Materia poisoning. Playing Doom Legacy (a new Doom build after they made it open source). Revisiting an old friend in true 3D was fun. NFL Fever 2002 because it was the first Xbox game I ever played. Zelda: A Link to the Past. Grandia II. GTA 3. Morrowind. Splinter Cell. And the ultimate shocker: Goldeneye. |
Resident Evil 4 - I was really suprised how much they improved the series with this game. It was really intense at some parts of the game, even during some of the cutscenes you had to be prepared for anything.. alot of Holy **** moments there.
Far Cry - When you first get out of the dark tunnel and you see how bright and beautiful everything is and you can see forever, it was jaw dropping. Same with Half Life 2. ICO was awesome, Nothing came close to that kind of gameplay until Prince of Persia came out. There wasnt alot of details but the size and atmosphere of ICO was breathtaking, considering that it came out over 3 years before Prince of Persia. |
You know the PC version of Dance Dance Revolution? I get a little 'Holy shit!' moment whenever I look at one of the classical music levels.
And I get one at the end of those levels where I look at the maximum chain thing and I see I managed to hit FOUR IN A ROW. And then I self high-five. |
Recently, the only game that has made me really say "Holy shit this is sweet" was the first time I played Steel Batallion for the Xbox. Using the specialized controller and hearing the thud of the robot feet hitting the ground was nice.
FFT and Vagrant Story also made me happy. Then RE when I suckered my friends into playing it at night in a dark room. |
City of Heroes knocked my socks off the first time I saw it. I think What really got me was seeing people jump between buildings.
The first time I saw someone playing Action Quake 2 on teamjungle.bsp, I was totally blown away. After playing half-life for a year or two the speed and versatility of the maps just made me gasp. |
Probably while playing halo 2 on live. I go through a lot of " Holy shit!! where'd that guy come from." Seriously though, FF6 and its insane long ending made did it for me.
|
Star Wars Galaxies, the first time I saw a sunrise on Tatooine.
Resident Evil 4, the first time I got decapitated by the chainsaw guy. Zelda, the Wind Waker, numerous times. GTA: San Andreas, the first time I jumped out of a plane and threw out my parachute. |
Some parts of Half Life 2 were pretty intense. I love the beginning of the game though, it really feels like you are being hunted down.
Edit: Oh yes, and the Striders. The FUCKING Striders. That was intense. |
The Curse of Monkey Island. That opening cinematic was incredible. Probably my most favorite of all time. To me it was like playing a high quality (90's theatrical) animation movie. The voice acting was stellar. The jokes were laugh out loud funny. And, do I really have to talk about the music and sound design? AWESOME!

Joint Operations - cause of the hudge maps :) Oh and the fact I could do pretty well in it :)

The Demo of Return To Castle Wolfenstein had me almost shatting my pants. Resident Evil games likewise. Fallout 1 and 2 were just beautiful and sometimes scary at the same time, just saying to yourself, "Holy shit I gotta save Arroyo!!11!1". And of course Half-Life 1 + 2.
