X-Men Legends
Whoa! I love this game!! Just picked it up today not really knowing what to expect, but I've really had a blast playing this so far. The cell shading really works, and any game with Patrick Stewart in it is a plus for me. :D
Anyone else picked it up yet or is planning to? http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/735/1094156836.jpg http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/735/1094156726.jpg http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/735/1094156837.jpg |
Which X-Men is this based on? I can tell it's not the movies.
|
Nope, its not a movie game. its just based on the classic xmen, and you just live the lives of them in the Xavier mansion. You help build up the powers of new mutants, and you get to play as pretty anyone you want to be (after you unlock them all). Its a great game!
|
Man, I am not a fan of those face designs, especially the men. (they look alike.)
But I love the X-men and I'll be playing this. I'll probably either rent it til I beat it, or wait to buy it when the price drops. We got so much new and great games coming out in the next few months, plus Gameboy DS, that I'll need to pick and choose with care. Once you beat an rpg, what's the incentive to go back and play it? I'm seriously thinking of joining Gamefly.com and just start renting my games. My local Blockbuster is bad about not getting the new GameCube games in for a couple of months until after their release, if at all. |

Back to the subject. lol |

Nintendo DS. |

Its all of them. There are evo missions, there are flashbacks where you play as classic x-men (wolverine is yellow and black etc.). Its hard to explain, but it all works out well nicely. :)
|
I kind of want to pick it up purely so that I have a good multi-player game to play with some friends. I think it looks good and I usually have fun with dungeon crawlers, I always liked Phantasy Star.
|
Can't wait to grab this one, finally, a good X-men game! Been a while since the Mega-Drive/Genesis title.
I heard that your team-mates AI is pretty bad and that they fall of death-ledges a fair bit? Any truth to the claim Church? |
Wow, i had no idea the game was even out yet. . . I was really interested in this game when hearing about it long ago. I guess just another game added to my list of stuff to buy. :/

I am definietly getting this game. I used to be a big comic book geek when I was young, and Xmen hasnt really had a sensible video game (none that I know of anyways).
|
For those that are interested and can get the G4/TechTv channel,
they're showing an X-men: Legends special tonight at 8:00 Central ST. It lasts 30 minutes. Be there, or be square. :p |
It looks cool at least
|
fuck man, I can't even look at this thread at work cause of al lthe NSFW avatars, and this is the gaming forum for crying out loud.

Church:
Have you played with another player, each controlling two, or perhaps even four? |

some of the character designs actually look like they're from the ultimate x-men series, at least from the pictures that were posted and the commercial.
by the way, i like that commercial. first saw it and was like, wow... that's cool =P is gambit in the game? and if so, how's the character? |

Here's a list of the PLAYABLE characters in case anyone was wondering. (In order of appearance) Wolverine Cyclops Magma Iceman Storm Rogue Jean Grey Beast Jubilee Nightcrawler Gambit Colossus White Queen Professor X Psylocke |
Looks awesome. And it wounldn't be evolution but Ultimate Xmen. The Comic Mythos that puts them at starting again at a more up to date series. Storm rather than been an older team leader is a younger version. Wolverine still being a bit older but not as wise. Cyclops left as feild leader.
Either way its gonna be great. The first really good looking X-men game. |
I've actually had cyclops die a lot from falling off things. One time he fell of a bridge I made with iceman. Another time i made another bridge with iceman and cyclops just fell through it.
I really enjoy playing as Wolverine. It's awesome just to throw him into the thick of the battle, knowing I won't have to worry about giving him health every 5 seconds. After he levels up quite a bit he kicks a shitload of ass. |
PSYLOCKE?! Holy shit that's the first I've heard of it!!! And she appears last?! ARRRGH! Looks like a game I'll be playing non-stop until I pass out or hopefully until I get up to unlocking Psylocke!
|
Hey Church, How tough is this game? My kid loves the X-men but he's only four. If it requires a lot of dialog then it's out. I may enjoy it, but only as a rental. So I'm up in the air. ( as for difficulty, my boy beats Halo on Hard...yeah, he's a serious gamer. )
|
Got it. Ne'er mind.
|
I'm lucky enough to still be living in a dorm with a bunch of friends that hang out and play games together all the time, so we are realy loving this game. It's a blast with a group so everyone gets to control one of the characters. I tried playing it solo when no one else was around the other day though and it wasn't nearly as fun. If you have a roup of friends to play it with I highly recommend it. Its also the first cell-shaded game that I think actually looks better cell shaded, they really caught the comic book feel. And Wolverine (my character choice) is totally badass.

from the screenshots the graphics dont look so hot. i see why they didnt show any gameplay footage on the commerical
|
I actually prefer playing solo. Playing with more gets annoying since several people are trying to go in different directions and you get stuck. Maybe if I were playing with people that thought more like me it would be fun, but I like playing it all by myself.

Can I get a few tips from the elite gamers in here on how to beat Mystique?
I know, she's the first boss, and I should be able to beat her, but damn! I get killed every damn time. I only had 4 health charge-ups when I saved it, so every time I come back I only have that much to work with. What are those 4 arrows that point at her for? Also, why can't I pick up the blue floating things? And, is there any way to defend against her hits other than running like a fraidy-cat? Thanks for any help. |
Ok, to beat Mystique, first take out all the henchmen. After that, use uppercuts and brutal slash. Just keep running around her and jump a lot.
I honestly can't remember what the 4 arrows are, I can't even remember them. Sorry. If you cannot pick up the energy packs, it means you are maxed out. As you progress in the game, you will be able to hold more. And no, basically keep running away from her and jump a lot. Thats how I did it and got her the first time. How do you like the game so far? |
Quote:
So, basically do a hit and run strategy? Okay. I'll just need to do the hit part now, instead of just running around like a little crybaby. ;) I'm loving the game so far. I do wish when you break the windows or fences you could then walk on through them. Do you mind if I seek other advice if/when I need it later on in the game, C? |
not at all. And you usually can walk through glass when you break it. but yeah, fences suck. :p
|
I have this game and enjoy playing it with friends. My only gripes are that the key layout kind of blows (jump assigned to the Y button? wtf?), respawning chars requires copious amounts of tech bits (and I have an accident prone friend who makes us respawn him over and over again), and respawning also requires us to go back to an extraction point. Other than that, it's been great fun, reminiscent of Gauntlet.
|
Holy FUCK! I make myself crazy!
I finally beat the blue bitch, but then I didn't read the dialog completely and kept scrolling through the text hitting the "A" button, getting angrier and angrier. I thought I was on a loop because right when I gave Mystique the coup de grāce, she gave me mine too. (I thought it was a glitch.) But then it went to the cut scene with the text, which I didn't read too well, like I said, so when I couldn't exit out of it, I hit the restart button on the console and played the fight a couple more times, before I finally beat her again. THEN, I was in the dialog scene again hitting the "A" button, not going anywhere again, when I moved the joystick at the right time and noticed the choices in the dialog box I could choose. (It's been so long since I played an rpg, I forgot the process;)) Anyway, I got out, met Cyclops, beat The Blob, got Magma back to the school and am in the process of exploring it. Stewart is fucking great as Xavier like you said, C. It cracks me up no end to watch him wheeling that chair around at Mach 6, and almost run over Alison trying to stay with her. It looks like he's tailgating. Thanks for the help, Church, and thank you for any future help, too. (I hope you don't regret agreeing, now that you see how I am.) :D |
Picked up my copy the other night and I cant stop playing, lol. I love this game. Its so much fun.
|
If your friend dies a lot, make him play another character instead of reviving the old one. If he spends a few levels as Jubilee, it might make him less error prone ;)
|
Lol, every character he plays has a painfully short lifespan. He says he mainly just wants to play Nightcrawler, which we (at the time) hadn't unlocked yet. It became more cost effective to give him Wolverine because of the healing factor. Otherwise, he'd take a range character and just make them melee.
|
just wanted to revive this since I just played it this weekend and thought it was great.
I also have a friend who kills himself constantly. Although I have to say everybody I play with have fell off cliffs many times. Insanely annoying since you can't tell too well where the holes are. Anyways to fix this we just get a trainer for unlimited tech bits and viola, instant revivals. Cheap, but can't stand playing as stupid characters. Also, cyclops is really good, get this leadership ability and combos do crazy damage. Although it's really fun to use Beast to pick up just about everything. |
