PSTwo
Hey all,
I haven't seen this up here yet, so I thought I'd mention it. I work in the gaming industry, and (this may be old news), I was just told that PS2's will no longer be manufactured, and the system replacing it will be the PSTwo. Remember the PSOne? Well that's what they're doing here. It hasn't been officially announced yet, but that's the word thats going around. Here's a pic of it... http://www.stormcenter.net/~dc/PSTwo.jpg |
That's the coolest thing I've ever seen. Now I sorta wish my PS2 would break so I could buy it!@!

That is one fugly piece of electronics. And it has been officially announced. Look on the front page of GameSpot. And its not called the PStwo. It will retain the name of the original. Only thing I can say good about it is that it has a built in ethernet port, and I don't know if you can use the hard drive with it, but then again, who actually uses the PS2 hard-drive in the first place, except for a few lone FFXI players. Or people who back up games.

I was speaking directly to Sony (Church and I work for the same company) and the person I spoke to said the new PS2 won't be called "PSTwo" because it is already called the PS2. The reason the PSOne is called that is because Originally is was the Playstation or PSX (Playstation eXperimental [or something]) and the "One" came about when PS2 did to differentiate the two generations of the console.
So it comes down to speaking realistically, what difference is there to the name other than the way it's displayed? None. It's simply the PS2 or the Playstation 2. Just as a new model (SCPH-7000 I believe). |
Thats sweet. Glad my PS2 is kicking the bucket at the right time. Is there a price for this little gem yet?
Edit: Never mind i clicked the link :o 149.99 is a aiiight price. Wow it's either gonna be this or a DS. . . choices choices |
I was this close [-] to replacing my battered old PS2 just last weekend. Imagine the shame.
I can put up with the dreaded D.R.E. for another couple of months for one of those. |
Why do I always buy my consoles when they come out, why do I never wait 'til they make them cooler?
I also heard it comes with a built in broadband adapter...I may be wrong, but this machine keeps looking cooler and cooler than my regular PS2... |
The only downside is that the PS2 hard drive (obviously) won't work in it and it's also supposedly incompatible with some PS2 games (I'm guessing the HDD games).

the people that I was talking to that work in the industry don't really expect this to take off. Much like the PSOne didn't take off. Sony just using this as a way to get their name out there again and garner some much needed publicity so that when the new system comes out they can rock the market..
|
Hmmm... my Sony rep said it WAS called the "PSTwo" and had documentation from Sony that had that name on it. Maybe one hand isn't shaking the other? It wouldn't be the first time with Sony. I guess we'll all just have to wait until the box is on the shelf.
|
I wish I had waited a year before getting one. That's really cool!
|
Hmm wonder if the Logitech Driving Force pro works with this new ps2.
|
two issues.
first, it's a toploader, instead of a sliding tray. that means that you're gonna hafta park your pstwo somewhere where you can access the top of the console. i'm not uber-wild about that. second, with square-enix preparing to ship FFXII, will there be a whole pile of new pstwo owners who are gonna get left out? is FFXII not going to be hard-drive dependent? perhaps this is a question for another thread, but the lack of a hard-drive on the new hardware may cause issues later on. |
I think it looks pretty cool, but I won't buy it. I'm fine with my current huge PS2.

I think that is just amazingly cool! I'd almost sell my current one to buy that.
|
Anyone got one of these yet? or had a hands-on experience.
I'm buying one tomorrow but I'd like to know more about the top-loading mechanism. Does the 'lid' need to open all way because if it does I'll need to completely reo-organise my entertainment system. In other words, does it have to open much wider than the depth of an original PS2? |
Yeah, it's okay. It's smaller, and a little quieter. No option of HD, so no FFXI. Otherwise it's more of the same in a smaller package. Waste of money if your standard PS2 works.
|
There are some complaints of compatibility issues. Pretty much a replay of the PS2 launch.
|
The new model looks totally phat.
I'm going to have to dig up alot of info on this for my gaming guild. Think they will release a stand platform so you can use this on it's edge? |
They definately will. I'm just not sure when. I've seen pictures of it, when this was first announced. It's a circular stand, rather than the rectangular stand for the PS2.
|
I recommend you NOT use the stand. I really don't know why they released it, it ruins the laser alignment in the system.

I saw the system today, my jaw dropped, my eyes widened. I'm in love.
Seeing the size upfront and personal, and how nice it looks- you want it laying flat. Mainly because it takes up a lot less room, and it looks hawt. I want one now. but there's no point. My ps2 is just fine :P |
Can you put a mod chip in it?

I reckons it looks great, I currently don't own a PS2 so, it'd be nice to have one of those.

Yar Matey. Was that subtle enough?
Well, in actuality, it's not me, it's my friend. I really don't have an interest in console games. |
