I like the game, it just takes some getting used too. Its more open ended than most RPGs i've played lately. The story line really didn't pick up till half way through the game for me. I think thats what people don't like. There is hardly any sense of direction in the beginning.

I like, personally. it's great being so non-linear and having so many options.
the problem is, a lot of people need direction or a thick plot. this has neither. (almost none) to me its a great game when you're tired of the normal routine. |

Morrowind is great. I love invading peoples homes and saying "Hey, this place is nice. NOW I STAB YOUR FACE AND STEAL IT." You just don't have that freedom in Final Fantasy.
It is really broken though, too many things you can exploit, like combat. Get a melee weapon and run up and smack someone, run away, dart back in and hit themwhile darting away from them while they swing. This is fine if the AI did it too, but it's just too easy to kill things with their current AI.

play the expansions.... PC only of course, well for now anyway
The current one (Tribunal™) is more plot based than the original game. The second one (Bloodmoon™) should hit shelves in little bit, a month or so I think...

I haven't played this game, but I watched my friend play it for about 10 minutes. The continent is WAAAAAY to big in my opinion and there doesn't seem to be enough action and killing.

I'll give the contintent is huge, but if you find the right places, the combat is brutal. You'll find plenty of enemies, though the combat is basic.

Game too damn long. No real plot. If it wasn't for the massive amount of junk you can do, the game would completely not be there. The story is so weak it might as well not even have one, "An RPG, with a hint of story."

It's fun, but too easy to exploit its skill system.
Like, jumping everywhere I go. I'm a wizard with 99 Acrobatics that I got in a few hours. That's silly.

I really like Morrowind. I consider it to be one of my favorite games because of the open ended gameplay. And, if you're playing Morrowind and you haven't downloaded a single mod, add-on, or plugin, you're really, really missing out. There are some seriously awesome additions to the game. Think it's too easy? Difficulty increasing mods exist. Want new items? Tons to be had. There are mods that are as simple as adding on new vendors, to new houses, to new cities, to tons of new monsters ranging from mundane fish to dragons. The mods I think really make the game that much better than a lot of the other RPGs out for the computer. Check them out sometime, you might just like them.

Great game. Only problems are that aside from the cool game world, there really is almost no interaction between yourself and other characters (aside from enemies), which makes for pretty repetitive questing after a while.
Oh, and the cliff racers suck too. |

I just picked up Morrowind earlier this month on suggestion from a friend. Great game, the sheer size of it is a major plus for me. I haven't picked up the expansions yet, but I will soon. My one big gripe about the game is the graphics engine, no matter what I do I still get the occasional 5-10 second lock up and some funky clipping issues. (Playing it on a P3 2.2 ghz, 256ram ,Geforce 3) But all in all, I'd give it an 8.5 / 10.
And I'll go with Nappa on this one, cliff racers do indeed suck...a lot. |

Yes, nothing like skipping along your merry way and then getting the hell scared out of you by a squawking bastard. It doesn't even feel good to bring it to their grill either.

Morrowind is a great game, but my computer isn't good enough to run it without turning the draw distances to the lowest setting, and even then the frames per second drop to 15fps... I'm an FPS whore and 15fps makes my eyes bleed and almost explode.
It needs multiplayer, too... I wanna play it with my friends. |

Morrowind for the XBox is one of the best games ever made. The graphics are excellent and almost never distract. Almost all the limits are for solid game reasons rather than artificial graphical limitations. There are problems: the artistic style is intentionally gloomy, there is no freeform note taking, money is too easy to acquire, it is too easy to train in all areas of expertise, and the AI for tough enemies is too simple. In spite of these minor flaws, the ability to explore such a huge, beautiful, and dynamic world is exciting.
The detail with which your choices affect your experience is amazing; for example, wearing heavier armor makes you run much slower. I love how you can join a variety of different factions, each of which is competing for dominance. When you interact with other characters, they really care about what choices you have made. If you give a merchant a nice item, they will often wear it from then on instead of offering it for sale. If they do decide to sell it, you can usually see it displayed on a shelf. There is a great sense of mystery in the unfolding plot. As far as it unfolding slowly, that is only the case if you ignore the world itself and the plots that are exclusive to members of each faction. I've never seen or even imagined a game with so many stories to read; there are tons of short stories and full novels on the shelves of libraries and private homes, many of which provide insight into the people you meet and the challenges you face. Yes, it takes some time before the story is over, but that does not mean it proceedes slowly. Instead, there are a lot of different chapters to enjoy as you go. I enjoy multiplayer games, but single player games will always have a place. Morrowind is one of the best single player games that I have been privaleged to experience. |

I really hope there has been some development in the combat in the latest add-on. I'm sorry, but that is where this game falls FLAT on its face. Otherwise it is in my top 5 list of all time greatest RPGs. I love not being tied to any one particular plot or location. Though alternative transport like a horse for speed would be welcome on those LONG treks that you invariably end up taking.

It's the loneliest game I've ever played. I played it for about 12 hours. I had been playing for about 5 hours without interacting with anything (except the painfully boring enemies) so then I just put it away and never had the urge to play again.
edit: oh ya, don't get lost. If you get lost you might as well just start a new character.

i appreciate the open-endedness considering the constricting linearity of recent RPG's (read: FFX). however, nowhere near enough gameplay testing when into this. the skill and combat systems can be abused tremendously, and certain items/spells can be used to make your character all but invincible.
if bethesda could make a decent engine and fix these glaring gameplay problems, the daggerfall series could be amazing. |

Death warrant? I know how you can get your Wanted Status to go away. You can do that by either talking to the guards and paying your fine or going to jail(going to jail reduces your skills).
Or you can join a Theives guild, the one in Balmora will let you pay off you wanted fee for half the price on your head. To see how much your wanted price tag is, go to the Stats/Inventory menu. In the side where all you skills are listed scroll to the bottom. It should be at the bottom of the list along with all the factions you are a member of.

Morrowind is great. I finally picked up Tribunal yesterday, and although I am still working on the main quest the nice addition to the journal is awesome. Hopefully another game doesn't steal my attention away before I can try Bloodmoon. can't wait for Fable...

I love the game. I haven't it played it much since my hard drive crashed, though, cause I don't feel like taking so much damn time just to get to where I was at pre-crash.

morrowind is one of my favorite games right now... if only i could get the time to play it. :\ the open endedness of it is what i really enjoy about it. i dont find it too easy at all, but i also dont look for any exploits. i've got tribunal and bloodmoon, but havent loaded them up yet cause i dont think my character is even close to ready.

I've had the game for a long time now, it is very hard to find the time to play it.
But I do so love it, openness is what gets me. The ability to just do whatever, and work on the mainquest when I feel like it is just fun.

I had the first zelda on N64 and I didnt like it because I was always running across the large plain in the middle. The fact that morrowind exists blows my mind. The last RPG worth playing was FF7. Just look at some screenshots to remember what it was like.
Alternate title: Morrowind: Because a sucker is born every minute Of course that is all my opinon, but to me my opinion is the only one that really counts for anything anyway. |

It's an awesome game, but each individual element is average because of its scope. Sound? Average. Gameplay? Average. Battle system? Average. Quests? Repeditive. World? Static...very lonely, only excused because of the world's size. Still, this game had me hooked for ages; I've got one room full up with literally hundreds of candles, it looks awesome.

the amountof crap in this game alone is astounding. Though daggerfall in my opinion was a better game. Arena (the wolfenstienlike precurser to Daggerfall) was amazing for its time. There were a few other TES games that royally choked on it. i stopped playing morrowind because ofthe repetativeness of the missions (find letter to find man t find book, repeat...)
