I'm in a dark and scary place with only a pistol and a flashlight.

Note to self, if ever transferred to Mars, bring LARGER FLASHLIGHT.

/this game rocks

Rdr4evr 08-03-2004 06:29 PM

When the hell will a demo be released for this game?

bltzkriegmcanon 08-03-2004 06:30 PM

Hmm, that's a good question. I guess we can count on it in the next month or so.

Ace_O_Spades 08-03-2004 06:41 PM

The whole comm center transfer area was possibly the coolest level so far that i've played

thats as far as i am right now

the beavertooth ROCKS hahaha

bltzkriegmcanon 08-03-2004 06:54 PM

The Beavertooth PWNS my soul!

Halx 08-03-2004 07:57 PM

This game fucking rocks. It's hard as hell, but It's fun and tense! It runs like a fucking dream on my computer, so I'm very very happy.

Only complaint is the long loading time.

bltzkriegmcanon 08-03-2004 08:43 PM

Yeah, that's a gripe for me too. It's not insanely long, but it makes me wonder what would happen if I were running it off of a 74 GB Raptor SATA 10,000 RPM drive, with about 1-2 GB of RAM. Hmm. Guess we'll never know.

The Alpha Labs are the last place with that kind of direction, once you get to the Enpro level it's all just about fucking with your mind.

bltzkriegmcanon 08-04-2004 05:22 AM

Yeah, I'm on Delta Labs. The freakiest thing I've seen so far are Spoiler: The little flying death demon babies with the wings and shit. Those things are fucking scary. I have to go ahead and say it, this game has far more atmosphere and mood than any survival horror I've ever played, and I've played a few.

Captain Nemo 08-04-2004 05:55 AM

Loaded it last night. Running on a P4, 3.4Ghz with 2 Gig of RAM. I am in heaven (well, looks more like hell). I spent so much time just walking around the Marine base looking at the detail. I literally was entranced when I looked up at the tv set and watched the news.

This game is amazing

Asuka{eve} 08-04-2004 09:42 AM

Why cant you have a freaking light in one hand a gun in the other or a flashlight on a gun.

Stompy 08-04-2004 10:03 AM

Hit the F key to switch between flashlight and weapon. I'm used to it now.

hehe yeah but its still annoying to have to switch... especially if there's some zombies coming towards you and you point the flashlight, to aim, then switch to a weapon, fire off a couple shots and switch back to the flashlight to see if he's dead yet, or where the other zombie is. Although some weapons produce a flash of light of their own, like the shotgun, which is useful for aiming as well.

But yeah, they are in dire need of some duct tape at UAC to tape flashlights to weapons.

sailor 08-04-2004 11:19 AM

This game pwns me. I picked it up this morning and have been playing it ever since... It runs like a dream on my system, is very purty, and scary as all hell. I keep finding myself going oh-so-slow everywhere, checking every corner for the guys I just know are going to pop out and slash me from behind.

/me goes back to playing

pocon1 08-04-2004 12:52 PM

Got a question about the alpha labs. Worked my way up to seeing the hydrocon operate, cannot get past that point. there is a door, only two names operate it. harvey and lipsitz. cannot find pdas, backtracked past the point of the stairs collapsing. Help, I am stuck.

bltzkriegmcanon 08-04-2004 03:06 PM

Guys, I gotta say this. If you downloaded and installed Catalyst 4.9 (beta), be wary in its use. I'm running an ATI 9700 Pro, and it's done all kinds of weird shit to the way that things are rendered. Really weird looking.

Asuka{eve} 08-04-2004 03:19 PM

WTF. I think theres a bug.
All of a sudden my flashlight doesn't illuminate. what gives?

Should've used Energizer batteries. ;)

-Ever- 08-04-2004 03:35 PM

So I just got the game and was messing around with the System settings. I set the modes to pretty high res and quality. I restarted Doom and it quits when it goes to the black screen before the ID intro. How am I supposed to get back into the game and switch it? Shouldn't there be some type of safe mode or something?

-T

Halx 08-04-2004 03:46 PM

you can change it all in the cfg file

-Ever- 08-04-2004 03:52 PM

Ahh Halx, you always were a quick one ;) I just found the answer at the Activision FAQ, thanks though.

Peace
-T

EDIT: I deleted the files I was told to and I'm still not getting any luck. Here's the quote I'm going by:

You must delete the doomconfig.cfg and the config.spec files from the \base folder in order to fix this problem. Note you will have to reconfigure all controls and options after doing this. Make sure you know what modes your monitor supports before setting a very high-resolution in game. Doom 3 will go as high a resolution as allowed by the Windows control panel."

I left "Doomkey" A few "Pak's" and "game004". It's still quitting to the desktop..

Halx 08-04-2004 04:03 PM

ahh dunno.. reinstall game and drivers.. fun fun fun

Which level of Alpha labs? I need to know so I can go back and find out.

pocon1 08-04-2004 04:56 PM

actually, I finally found it after about 45 minutes of looking for the damn ladder so I could talk to the juy trying to stabilize the hydrocon on alpha level one. But thanks.

Anyone play this with a comparable video card to mine? I am running a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. It's a 64mb card, so it should be ok for low settings right? The rest of my specs for my comp are all fine, but this is my bottleneck and big concern. I don't really want to go out and drop a couple of hundred bucks on a new card so I was just wondering if anyone had any luck playing with a card like this??

I don't mind playing at low settings, I just want to be able to PLAY at all. Nothing worse than really wanting a game and having to take it back because it runs like ass on your machine...

www.hardocp.com has a great article comparing systems for Doom 3.

Rdr4evr 08-04-2004 07:31 PM

Man, I earlier said that Im not excited about this game, but after repeated visits to this thread, I change my mind. Im going to lose my damn mind. You people are torchering me with your DooM praise, and I cant even play it. I must cease all future visits to this thread to avoid the agony.

DooM 3.....
DooM 3.....

Halx 08-04-2004 08:10 PM

I've got it running at 1280x1024 (or whatever that setting below 1600x1200 is) with Ultra quality. Runs beautifully. Think I'll bump it up some more.

2.8 GHz P4
1gb Corsair DDR 400Mhz fsb on dual-channel
Radeon 9800 Pro

What are your FPS?

i have no idea

-Ever- 08-04-2004 09:25 PM

Just got done with my first real trip into the game. I must say that it pulled the sissy out of me real fast. I found myself turning the lights on and closing the windows before I even got into killing many guys.

I'd say my favorite aspect of the game so far is how 'useable' the creators made the enviornments. Monsters bashing through walls and from under stairs and their interactions with how things move is really amazing.

Yeah, the level of detail in the game is just incredible.

Mr.Deflok 08-05-2004 05:58 AM

Just finished the game not more than ten minutes ago, aside from the boss being quite easy and ending short I absolutely love this game to death! Seeing Hell rendered on the Doom 3 engine is worth the purchase alone, my God is looks so damningly real.

I think the ending may be different depending on what decision you make at the comm tower regarding sending a transmission to the fleet, not sure.

The game is just so good, I really felt like I'd been transported to Mars and forced to face the Horde of Evil as it ravaged the UAC base...

Can't think coherrantly right now, sorry. Fuck that was epic.

Doom 3 is scary as hell. nwlinkvxd and I played it last night for about 2 hours, and we both walked out of his apartment nervous as ninnies. I had nightmares last night. :(

To my understanding, it makes it so the bodies of the monsters you kill don't 'dissapear', thus adding to the realism. Follow his link to the files for more info.

For all your slang and gaming words, check the Urban Dictionary. The definition of 'gibbing' on Urban Dictionary doesn't involve bloody chunks, but the term 'gibbage' is more explanatory. Also see 'gib' and 'gibbed', although those are a little vague.

Fremen 08-05-2004 12:43 PM

Thanks, -Ever- and TurbineSlut. Appreciate it.

bltzkriegmcanon 08-05-2004 02:52 PM

Just finished it. That game is a fuckin' masterpiece of FPS.
