Unreal Engine Version 3 - Video
A video presentation of the new Unreal Engine currently in development at Epic.
A few high points from the presenation: -one character has more geometric detail (polys, lighting etc) than an entire level in UT1 -one million polys in view is average -it won't run on your PC :) I don't want to hijack too much of this guy's bandwidth (it's 12MB) if someone could mirror it that would be cool. *****Link Removed***** * Scroll down to Silvy's post to get it. Thanks Silvy! |
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! I've NEVER seen graphics that good. Ever. That's the truth, guys. Those character models actually look like they have as many polygons as an entire level of UT1.
I didn't think we'd see a game that made Doom 3 look bad, but here it is. Check out the multi-colored light shining on the character...that's simply amazing. I liked the huge monster at the end too! Even more amazing than anything in the video is the fact that the artists used fucking MAYA to create the Unreal 3 Engine. Maya is used to create the graphics in such things like...STAR WARS EPISODE 1!! Videogames are being created with the same graphics that movies are now. I suggest everyone watch this movie ASAP. PS: I tried uploading it to my webspace but it kept cooking the file. Why in the fuck does every FTP program I use corrupt media files? -Lasereth |
man that shit is awesome. best graphics I've ever seen. incredible.
|
It is mirrored at this address:
http://www.dkns.nl/media (as is the "bankrobber on the run movie") EDIT: that's a very impressive demo, especially the colored glass-reflection scene.... |

games have been known to be downsized compared to their techdemo's (which is to be expected, so no real biggie). I just wanted to point that out... But yes, it does look extremely good! (I'd love to have that demo as my future screensaver :D ) |
I want a 6800 so bad now!! The dynamic shadows, the incredibly high poly and animated characters... holy shit this is amazing.
|
I saw it in person at GDC. This video doesn't do it justice, to be perfectly honest.
That said, games featuring it won't hit the street until 2006 at earliest - so don't get too excited at this point. |

so it will be out befor HL2 ?
|
Those are some in-fuckin-credible graphics. Can't wait for it! That's gonna be something worth getting an Nvidia 6 series or whatever ATI's repsonse is gonna be.
|
Can't wait to see the 6800 vs R420 tests :D
|
Amazing stuff! As cool as this video was, I'm even more excited to see what other games they'll use the engine for. 2006...not too far off I guess...
|
I don't know what to say...I really don't ..that was amazing
|
I want it. Now.
And the hardware to go with it. Good GOD, is that amazing or what? Veritas en Lux! Jimmy The Hutt |
I hate Moores law. Always taking my money....
I feel like if I waited just 3 more years, the graphics will be so life-like that upgrades wont make much of a difference to me. |
We are getting closer and closer to "real" looking games that are rendered in real time. Amazing.
|
holy good god.
*drools* |
WOW!!!
Cannot wait for that stuff. Thanks for the link. V. |
In response to my drooling excuse for a thread, I shall bump this one, so that the one I created may no longer exist.

Yeah I just realized, as I was pining about it in my journal, that it's not that unusual. I got a pretty darn decent card 3 years ago - a GeForce 2 - and now I can hear you all laughing at the mere mention of it ;)

I was about to say - don't you upgrade video cards more than once every two years? I usually upgrade more than once a year.
