quick xbox question

I just bought a new xbox ( now I have two) so that I can finally play my Morrowind without a hitch. I want to transfer my saves from the old xbox to the new. I dont want to spend 30 bucks on a memory card to do so Can the system link cable do this? Sounds like a long shot.

sadistikdreams 04-13-2004 07:01 PM

probably.
or buy a second-hand/third-party memory card.

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categorie...pt=Accessories
^has an 8mb memory card for 20$, official memory card for 25$,
the sys link cable is 15$(WOW!), and used official memory card for 14$...

grayman 04-13-2004 10:03 PM

I'm pretty sure you're out of luck unless you buy a memory card.
I have never been able to transfer any kind of save from one hard drive to another through the system link cable.
Sorry :(

Just buy a memory card, transfer it, and take the memory card back, and get your money back.

simple as that.

Why do you need 2 XBoxs?
Why couldn't the first one play Morrowind?

Locke 04-14-2004 03:30 AM

Ah well, looks like I'm out of luck. I need the other xbox because the original is a Thompson. Thompsons dont like morrowind, especialy the GOTY edition.

well, i believe it has something to do with certain xbox's having a Thompson drive, that reads at an inferior speed.
the newer Samsung drive reads at 16x, which is more suitable to the big games like Morrowind.
however, when you're buying a new xbox, you should be double checking the serial codes to make sure you're getting a samsung xbox.

One question though, is Morrowind a game that can be saved on to a memory stick? Certain games for the Xbox don't allow saves to transfered to prevent cheating.

grayman 04-14-2004 09:30 PM

Yes, you can save Morrowind games onto a memory card.

Swap the harddrives. There are a ton of tutorials online (such as at http://www.xbox-scene.net/) that will tell you how to disassemble your xbox. Only problem is it will void your warranty.

Redjake 04-15-2004 10:19 AM

I would seriously just go and buy a memory card (for what it's worth). Much less hassle than swapping hard drives (and voiding warranties). 30 bucks I think.

Rangsk 04-15-2004 10:32 AM

That all depends on what you'd define as "hassle." For me, unscrewing some things, unhooking the two hard drives, rehooking them, then rescrewing is less hassle and takes less time than going to the store and spending $30 that I'd rather spend elsewhere (especially since this guy just shelled out money for a second xbox).

there is a mod chip that will allow you to do it, it's around 50$ which is more than you want to spend, but there are many other advantages than being able to transfer files.... you can even use the xbox as a server for your PC....

lol Anyone else might have to include some ethical questioning here SATS.

Who said you had to buy one? Find a friend who has one and borrow it for a day. Problem solved.

Heh, I never said my solution was ethical, however, its the cheapest method, and best one imo.

it's all fun and games until your "hassle" turns into voiding your warranty, and then your xbox quitting on you two months later like mine. luckily, I didn't tear mine apart and switch hard drives or anything, so I was able to get a replacement. luckily. if the warranty was out, I would tear those hard drives out like a high school tech teacher. but that one is brand new!

rks1789 04-21-2004 07:59 PM

Just be sure you follow a tutorial if you switch the drives. If you just physically swap them the harddrive lock might not work....
