most disappointing ending

After finally getting around to beating Mechassult and Crimson skies, I am forced to wonder if all I get to watch now is a 30 second blip for the sequel. Are all games like this now or is it just me? What other game endings were a major disappointment for you?

bparker805 03-06-2004 12:02 PM

After finishing "Soul Reaver", all I got was "To be continued..." Pissed off could not even begin to let you know how mad I was. It completely turned me off of the series all toghether.

X_789_X 03-06-2004 02:08 PM

I don't think anyone remembers 'Independence Day' for the playstation but that had to be the single worst ending ever. I spent hours trying to beat that game only to get a "Thanks for playing now go outside". THAT is a crappy ending...

Hanabal 03-06-2004 03:05 PM

half life ending was pretty meh, especially since the last 1/3 of the game was in zen which sucked.

spose compaired to the rest of it though.

i dont know, i think i just like cgi, so i love it when i see a cool movie, and having to work hard to see it makes it all the better.

WarWagon 03-06-2004 04:23 PM

I laughed my ass off when my roomates spent hour after hour playing NFS Underground, only to get a "you won!"

bltzkriegmcanon 03-06-2004 06:03 PM

I'd have to say that the Silent Hill series have the most disappointing endings in all of gamingdom. I mean, I don't think you can even call the sequences at the ends "endings." That's how bad they are.

Latch 03-06-2004 08:00 PM

Let me just say that you should be used to disappointed endings based on your signature quote. Don't worry, I'm a Cubs fan too and know the same heartache :)

Disappointing for me would probably be the first mario (nes).. all that work ... for not much of an ending.

Dibbler 03-06-2004 08:15 PM

KOTOR had a stupid ending. The ending was the exact same ending as the first movie!!! Handing out medals and waving to the crowd... How stupid. That was the nice ending (light side) I couldn't face the game again to get the dark side ending. Probably just getting medals and waving to the bad guys or something...

Mr.Deflok 03-06-2004 08:38 PM

I had a game on the Atairi where once you beat the boss the screen went black and said "CONGRATULATION", not congratulationS, just CONGRATUALTION... cheap bastards!!!

I thought part 1 was bad but 2 and 3 have been incredible, keeping in my there are multiple endings.

opackfan 03-06-2004 08:41 PM

i second the soul reaver 'to be continued' ending so much work...arg!

charlesesl 03-06-2004 09:19 PM

Freespace II get both the best and the worst.
The best part is when the star goes supernova.
The worst is not giving any information on Bosh. I foughted him for half of the game and dont get to see him again for the other half.

RedCometChar 03-07-2004 12:57 AM

Even with having to put up with Raiden's bitchiness, I still loved MGS2. But that ending didn't make you feel like you accomplished anything. In fact, it made you feel like even more of a puppet. Of course, that's exactly what they were going for, but it was still a drag. Plus, not being able to save E.E. no matter what sucked.:(

Miserlou 03-07-2004 01:11 AM

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. There just wasn't an ending at all.

KOTOR didn't really get my emotions stirring at the end either (but I forgive them, since my emotions were played with in the middle of the game). I just would have liked to see some deeper moments between Bastilla and the main character.

tenchi069 03-07-2004 03:08 AM

Rampage for NES. You cant save, but have unlimited lives. The game has several levels per section of the country with about 20-30 sections of the country. Some of the levels take 5 minutes to beat. So if you have an avg of 5 levels per section you have about 125 levels. at 5 min a pop thats 625 minutes or roughly 10 hours of sitting at an NES machine. I remember it took me ( including pausing it for dinner ) about 14 hours to beat. and when you do all it does is have your character on a black outline of the USA and say ( mispelled even ) CONGRATURATIONS.

iktoweya 03-07-2004 05:28 AM

most RPGs made by Square now known as square enix and still pushing out great games with horrible endings

Order_of_Monkey 03-07-2004 12:11 PM

I would have to say metal gear solid 2 for the soul reason that it made no sence

Dude, I totally agree. My dad and I played it all the way through back in the day, destroyed the entire US, and then- nuthin. A lot of NES games have that kind of ending- I guess they didn't really expect most people to finish them back then.

H12 03-07-2004 03:35 PM

Mario Kart: Double Dash!! gets my vote here...all that hard work, and you get to see the credits and a new title screen. That's EXACTLY what I hoped I worked so hard and so long for. *rolls eyes*

makes plenty of sense, you just have to play it through a couple more times :) I can explain it to you if you want........

NeverBorn 03-07-2004 07:52 PM

I think MGS2 Ending did suck too..

Chingal0 03-07-2004 10:12 PM

Max Payne had a pretty worthless ending imo.

BigGov 03-07-2004 11:58 PM

Def Jam Vendetta was cheesy as hell, but the game was fun, and the entire story was pretty shitty to begin with.

Goomba 03-08-2004 09:44 AM

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.. All you got was a picture and a caption. Waste of my time!

any reasoning with that? a lot of people say it sucked because they didn't understand it. that's not much of a premisses.

LaZy 03-08-2004 03:49 PM

I loved the MGS2 ending. Excellent ending to an excellent game. I didn't like the BG: Dark Alliance ending, if I remember correctly it was basically just "to be continued."

RedCometChar 03-08-2004 04:12 PM

I personally never said that MGS2 had a bad ending, I just said I found it disappointing. It made perfect sense, but it was unsatisfying.

fhqwhgads 03-08-2004 06:50 PM

Four words...

A winner is you.

mercury-hg 03-08-2004 08:52 PM

best worst ending has to be Contra

Mr.Deflok 03-09-2004 12:43 AM

MGS2 to me was a terrible game but the ending was great, crashing into New York (?) city was a masterstroke.

Order_of_Monkey 03-09-2004 04:46 AM

Dont get me wrong i love MGS2 its just that ive made fun of the ending so much i have a hard time taking it seriously.
