Halo or Starcraft?

i think starcraft was a better more involved game but halo is just cool...

*edit* at www.gamefaqs.com the poll is open for these two games. feel free to go and vote (you do not have to be registered to vote)

jujueye 03-05-2004 10:46 AM

Halo Halo Halo. Story seemed good and long - a real bargain for the price in these days of $50 games.

But...Starcraft was just not my style. No rants, just not my style.

bltzkriegmcanon 03-05-2004 10:48 AM

Halo = one.of.the.best.games.evar.

LaZy 03-05-2004 01:12 PM

My vote goes to starcraft. I never really liked halo that much.

IckUber 03-05-2004 01:26 PM

Halo is a fun game, but it's overrated. It was the only reason to get an X-Box, but now halo is for the PC (like it was suposed to be untill Bill Gates bought the fucking rights away so he could make it his own title for the launch of x-box. douche) Anways, starcraft is goign strong after all these years, so My vote goes to SC. And the battle chest is only 20 bucks. Pick it up.

dabossy2k 03-05-2004 02:46 PM

Honestly there really is no comparision Starcraft and most blizzard titles are in a leage of there own. They have logivity that no game has ever really touched. Halo is a great game but not to be compared with Starcraft or Warcraft or any blizzard titles. My vote goes to Starcraft.

Orodinn 03-05-2004 04:15 PM

To me FPS are all the same. Its the one genre I really hate more than any other. I just can't stand those games, but they they seem to be the most popular genre on the PC. To me, FPS genre is like street fighter: theyre all basically the same game, but over the years, they refined the concept without adding any real innovations. Plus, its the only type of game that makes me dizzy. Weird because Ive been playing games since I was like 8 years old.

_the_wombat 03-05-2004 04:36 PM

Starcraft, hands down.
My Starcraft CD still gets use today. :)

Tholo 03-05-2004 05:43 PM

there should be an option for neither.

H12 03-05-2004 05:58 PM

I've loved both at one point in my life before, though neither do much for me now. I went with Halo though because I can still have some fun with it, plus I look forward to Halo 2.

Side=note: legolas, did GameFAQs happen to inspire you to make this topic? :P

Infernal 03-05-2004 06:29 PM

StarCraft!! Halo is fun but after I beat the game, I haven't touch it again. I still play starcraft online even though I got it 3 years ago.

SonicRL 03-05-2004 08:01 PM

Starcraft! I have been playing that game since 2000 and I play it's expansion as well. I also have entered the Gamefaqs contest, although I voted for Halo because I feel that they are going to win =\.

mgcloud 03-05-2004 09:15 PM

Starcraft definitely. I've been playing this game for like 3 years and am still not tired of it. It's the only game I play regularly :)

Also, not one for FPS games ... at all. They're fun at parties imo, but after like a couple of hours, it's too repetitive;)

Caphreak 03-05-2004 09:24 PM

these two games have almost nothing in common. youre comparing apples and hot dogs here. Theyre both good games, neither are spectacular.

Stare At The Sun 03-05-2004 11:39 PM

I gotta go with halo, it actually brings people together, and you can have more fun, and it doesnt get boring quite as fast. :)

Destrox 03-06-2004 06:01 AM

Halo = Over hyped p.o.s.

Starcraft = Game that wasted over 2 years of my life on Bnet, nuf said.

Other then that I dont really know how you could possibly compare these two games.

bellzboy 03-06-2004 11:13 AM

HALO... VERY overrated. Singleplayer gets boring once you beat it once. Starcraft has incredible replay value.

BuddyHawks 03-06-2004 04:52 PM

I dont think you can easily say one is better than the other since they are totaly different game, but i had more fun with starcraft, so i voted for it.

COMEONSTARCRAFT2!!!

The RTS games really haven't changed over the years either..........they all seem the same to me. I know they certainly haven't changed anymore than FPS games over the years.

I'm split on it myself, but I'm betting on StarCraft, even though I like Halo more.

Lasereth 03-06-2004 08:44 PM

You can't compare the two at all! One is a very old RTS game and the other is a pretty old FPS for console. Apples and oranges!!! Both are excellent games in their own seperate genres. Now Starcraft versus Warcraft would be a good one. That's the main reason I don't like what GameFAQ's is doing...one game against each other in a popularity contest. The part that bothers me is that people assume the winner is a better game instead of simply being more popular, even when GameFAQ's says "this is a popularity contest" on the front page.

lol i knew a few people here would know why i made this. i just couldn't decide. and i picked halo for the same reason. even though starcraft is the better game (and i think this poll is showing it) people expect halo to win to they predict that then vote for it too. i am pretty sure halo will win which is unfortunate and it's almost a moral dilema.

if you read the other posts you could probably figure out this has something to do with a contest at gamefaqs

Eviltree 03-08-2004 07:34 PM

I'd say starcraft, I just played it today! And with worldedit, you can make your own maps and.... Well, I love that game.

Kaos 03-08-2004 07:40 PM

I'd definitely say Starcraft, but I haven't played Halo on the PC yet. I truly hate Console FPS and using a controller.

I think halo nailed it though, I actually like it on XBOX moreso than on the PC. But, I may be biased, as it sounds way better w/ 5.1 and is usually on a bigger screen.

Halo has much, much better controls on the XBox controller. Some FPS work better on consoles and some work better on PC. Halo? It works way better on console.

Buk 03-08-2004 11:40 PM

Couldn't you have at least made the poll between Starcraft and Command and Conquer? Or Halo and Half-Life?

I think both games were awesome personally, but starcraft did have alot more replayability on single player than Halo.

Bob Biter 03-09-2004 06:43 PM

Starcraft is great for solo play, but nothing beats the multiplayer options in HALO. As someone said before, that game brings people together. Also, it spawns such things as "RedvsBlue". Case closed, as far as I'm concerned. However, I am aware that we're dealing with 2 different genres here.

Infernal 03-09-2004 06:51 PM

StarCraft's multiplayer > Halo's multiplayer

urpimpnes 03-10-2004 03:18 AM

These are two different types of games. Unfair to compare but i pick starcraft lol

synic213 03-10-2004 09:39 AM

StarCrack.
Still play it twice a week with friends.

nothingx 03-10-2004 05:21 PM

Hmm.... which is a tastier fruit, apples or oranges?

Finchie 03-10-2004 09:42 PM

Starcraft. That game wasted 2 years of my life. :(

hawkeye 03-11-2004 04:12 PM

I can't vote for either one over the other.
They are so different, that I can't even look at them on the same level.
Halo is one of my fav. FPS, and Starcraft is one of my fav RTS.
I like both of them, for Completely different reasons.

Hrothgar 03-11-2004 04:58 PM

Starcraft definitely. "Need a light?"

Plan9Senior 03-11-2004 05:22 PM

Halo is only a good console game. For a PC FPS, it was just ok. Starcraft isn't even in the same genre but as far as overall fun, i'd vote for Starcraft.

m0rpheus 03-12-2004 10:12 PM

Starcraft.
I can count how many hours I spent playing Halo, about 10 or so. I liked it but I wasnt hooked.

Starcraft, however still hooks me back to BNet every now and then even now...

Dorkums642 03-13-2004 06:22 PM

no contest. halo doesn't hold a candle to starcraft

sinjien 03-13-2004 09:39 PM

Two totally different games for one. Both games improved and brought innovations to gaming. But for me, playing Halo was more enjoyable. To be honest, Starcraft and games of that nature stress me out. Maybe I shouldnt concentrate so hard but it seems like there is always so much going on. With Halo I coud always count on enjoying laying down the FLOOD with the trustee shotgun.!

aarchaon 03-17-2004 05:11 AM

I think it is difficult to compare two games in completely different genres. Voted Starcraft becuase I still play it online. I can't play Halo online because it drops out all the time. :(

teseniarkc 03-21-2004 08:23 PM

I got bored with Starcraft and quit playing it. I played Halo all the way through and I still play it today.

Dostoevsky 03-23-2004 10:20 PM

Halo is my 2nd favorite game of all time next to the original Quake for PC. I've probably spent around 500 hours playing Halo and must have spent 1000s of hours online playing Quake. I would still play Quake today if other people were still into it. I love that game.

Church 03-23-2004 11:20 PM

Man, you can't even begin to compare SC and Halo. They are two completely different games.

Unless of course you are talking about StarCraft: Ghost, which in that case, my vote goes to SC:G, b/c I hate Halo. :p

Radi8tor 03-24-2004 01:05 PM

Oranges are WAY better than apples...but it is nice not to have to peel a fruit to eat it...

STARCRAFT, and better yet...WARCRAFT!!! can't wait for World of Warcraft to come out...

PS, starcraft and halo are apples and oranges...isnt halo first person shooter? and SC a micromanaging strategy game?

Kllr Wolf 03-24-2004 08:41 PM

Enven being a FPS gamer I voted for starcraft. I thougth halo totally blowed as a FPs for the computer. I have never played it on the console so cant judge that version of it. i have played starcraft a bit and between the two starcraft is the only one I would play again.

Slayer 03-24-2004 08:47 PM

I don't think you guys are suppose to compare them. I think the creator are just asking which game do you like more. I think....

The topic starter has a comparison in the first post in this thread. :) You can't ask which game people like better without a comparison. That's how ya find out which you like the best!

-Lasereth

Redjake 03-29-2004 08:50 AM

Apokx 03-29-2004 01:04 PM

Halo, nothing better than killing the people that camp with sniper rifles.

Heel Turn 04-01-2004 09:18 AM

Going to have to go with Starcraft on this one. As much as I liked Halo, Starcraft has about a thousand times more replay value, and the fact that it's still insanely popular five years after its original release is a testament to its quality.

Halo is still insanely popular as well. :) People in my dorm have a Halo Tournament every Saturday night of the year. They usually have over 10 people playing. Pretty damned neat! I'd join them more often, but my Halo has came and went.

PenguinBoy 04-03-2004 07:09 AM

Starcraft rulez!!!

p0thead 04-07-2004 02:21 PM

i dont understand why you guys are calling this a stupid question. i think he's asking which game you play more, enjoy more, or would pick to play if that was the only game left to play in this world. its a rhetorical question. to me its hands down starcraft, can't really beat a game that still has over 100k users online at all time even after, what, 6-7 years?

MaGlC_MaN 04-07-2004 02:43 PM

a couple years ago i used to seriously do nothing but play starcraft. i would wake up, sit in my computer chair and play starcraft all day long only moving to use the bathroom or get more mountain dews to help keep me awake until about 8 A.M. every morning. i'd wake up at 4 or 5 P.M. the next day and do the exact same thing. this went on for around 3 or more years. i finally got a life and stopped doing that shit, but now that i'm in college when my roommate and i get bored (i can't play starcraft on the college network here) so we'll turn on the ol' xbox and fire up a few halo games over the network and rape everyone ;) i play halo a SHITLOAD but nowhere near as much as i played starcraft. so, it was a tough decision for me, but i'm gonna have to go with starcraft on this. it was so much fun, i was seriously addicted to it. every now and then i miss that lifestyle, i had some good online friends and shit :P

H12 04-25-2004 04:47 PM

I'm gonna post to make this announcement: Halo VS StarCraft will be happening this Tuesday, just two days from now.

http://www.GameFAQs.com

It'll be on the front page if you wish to participate in it.

teshadoh 04-25-2004 05:19 PM

Love both games - but is it fair comparing them since they're totally different types of games? I went with Starcraft anyways.

KellyC 04-26-2004 10:09 PM

Halo makes me dizzy....and I kept on losing to my little bro..which is not cool.

SC is where I dominate :D

So I vote for SC...can't wait for SC 2 to come out.

Dilbert1234567 04-28-2004 09:45 AM

none of the above!

i did not like star craft and hated halo.

roadkill 04-29-2004 03:26 PM

I'm just a fps kinda guy starcraft is a good game tho

-=shikamaru=- 05-02-2004 07:23 PM

Starcraft introduced the concept of completely differing races and strategies into the genre of RTS. Halo introduced new graphics. And cars. But I think Starcraft did much more for the world of gaming.

H12 05-02-2004 07:58 PM

Since this poll was inspired by the GameFAQs poll, let me be the first to inform everyone on how it went...

StarCraft started off with an early lead, then Halo pulled away for most of the day. At the end of the night, within the last hour I think, StarCraft came back and won the match by 373 votes. Here's the final result...

1 Halo - 56258 (49.83%)
16 StarCraft - 56631 (50.17%)

crow_daw 05-02-2004 08:02 PM

Halo is my favorite game of all time. The single player game is awesome, but Multiplayer is the game's true specialty. I love playing some Team CTF with all my friends, two XBOX's, two TV's, and a link cable. That, my friends, is the stuff dreams are made of.

TawG 05-03-2004 07:08 AM

starcraft, no discussion, halo is just so boring once you get down to it...

with starcraft you had the community and the loud discussions followed by dozens of games to prove your point...

Booboo 05-05-2004 06:01 PM

for those of you who said halo was overrated and boring once you beat it... you obviously never played online much, 8 v 8 ctf games are INTENSE, with good hosts you experience barely any lag if any.

And I am also a very experienced starcraft player, but for me halo just never gets old playing online, starcraft did(yes I played on bnet... I dont think I even finished the entire campeign). Though starcraft is one hell of a game and I still play it time to time.

Jadedfox 05-07-2004 03:54 AM

Starcraft. No contest. Halo or not, console FPS is horrid! :D

--jaded

BlueGoose 05-08-2004 02:13 PM

Starcraft has stolen more of my life and time but Halo has been more entertaining. I lost my patience for Starcraft.

YaWhateva 05-08-2004 06:53 PM

Starcraft is possibly the best game ever to come out on pc and Halo is utter shit on console and pc. how can u compare the two? Oh and i love consoles so dont dismiss me as some sort of "FANBOY!!!!11111 ELOL!!!!!111111!1!1"

striderkevin 05-18-2004 06:10 PM

One more vote for StarCraft.

Da Munk 05-18-2004 06:36 PM

Starcraft is probably one of my favorite games of all time. Halo just felt like a generic FPS. My vote goes for Starcraft.

Halo has 100% on RottenTomatoes.com after 44 reviews. It has 97% on MetaCritic.com after a cubic asslode of professional reviews. You can like Starcraft more, but there's no denying that Halo is an outstanding game.

The PC version is mediocre. The controls are FUBAR, and it runs like crap on most systems.

Microsoft forced Bungie to get Halo out for the XBox launch so the last few levels of the game are rehashed from the previous levels. They simply ran out of time.

there is denying it, because i hate it. simple as that. beat the damn game the hardest difficulty, legendary or whatever it is, and was bored out of my mind. My roommate begged me to play it because he loves that piece of crap and he wanted to get me liking it. Revolutionary my ass. worst FPS ever. Hell Goldeneye on the N64 kicked the shit out of Halo. Now that was a fun console FPS.

You know, its funny, I have a low end system but played it with all settings on high with hardly any lag at all.

AMD XP 1800+ 256 Megs and a GeForce3 64 Megs. Pretty pathetic machine, but I had no problem running it. The game didnt suck because of performance, it sucked because of crap interior level design and extreme repetitiveness, and the story didnt wow me like it did everyone else. Halo 2 looks like its going to be the same garbage, I will take Half Life 2 anyday.

I did not know about the last levels being rehashed, which ones specifically?

Lasereth 05-19-2004 08:26 PM

Yeah, Half Life 1 is several years older and still way better than Halo, they are both FPS' thats close enough for me. Also, will you tell me what levels were rehashed and also, what kind of levels were in place of those to begin with?

Sums up my view. You can't even compare.

Laugh! 05-20-2004 10:39 AM

Definitely Starcraft. I'm glad it won the battle too because it has so much more replay value.

The newest patch for Halo PC makes it get closer to the greatness that is Starcraft, but it still doesn't hold a candle to one of the best games of all time.

The levels starting with The Flood are all rehashes after that. If ya notice that one level has you going through the same level over and over again...that's where they ran out of time. Right when the Flood is introduced it becomes noticeable.

There were no levels in place of those to begin with...Bungie literally wasn't done with the game, but Microsoft made them put it out, so they had to stick in levels towards the end just to finish the game. That's why the first 3/4 of the game seems more polished than the rest.

It still doesn't hold a candle to one of the best games of all time? Halo is easily one of the best games of all time. They're both two of the best games ever. :) They're simply too incredibly different games. Starcraft was constructed for its multiplayer experience. Blizzard knew players would play it long after it was released. That's why the game is crafted around being a multi-player game. Halo is amazing for its single-player experience, even though the multi-player turned out to be way better than expected.

One game is a FPS and one game is a RTS. One game has most of the work put into a single player game, and the other has most of the work done on the multiplayer aspect. Comparing the two isn't possible, especially on "which game is better." If you look at it professionally, Halo got far better reviews than StarCraft. On a gamers' level, they're about equal, with most fans saying that they can't be compared.

That's why I hate these voting games. Earlier on, Soul Calibur was pitted against Kingdom Hearts and lost. Jesus, Soul Calibur is the best fighting game ever crafted. Kingdom Hearts is a decent RPG with a great story, great characters, and a horrid combat system. Which game won? Kingdom Hearts of course, even though Soul Calibur is the best in its league. Bullshit like this is why I don't even visit GameFaqs during the contest. Taking a look at their contest brackets makes me wanna puke. They're pitting sleeper games versus games that people grew up with that weren't that great. Of course the game that people grew up with will win, simply because they remember it in their childhood. RPGs versus action games...fighting games versus RPGs, and fighting games versus Metal Gear Solid. It's impossible to make a good decision on this level, because some of those games are better in some aspects than the game they're against, yet they still lose. Making multiple contests within their own categories would do better, but it wouldn't solve the initial problems.

The bottom line is that the GameFaqs contest isn't a contest of the best game ever, it's a contest of which game more people played and enjoyed. It wouldn't piss me off as much if they renamed the contest to "Which game did you play and enjoy more than the other." That way, gamers could choose the games they've played instead of automatically making assumptions that one game is better than another.

There were no levels in place of those to begin with...Bungie literally wasn't done with the game, but Microsoft made them put it out, so they had to stick in levels towards the end just to finish the game. That's why the first 3/4 of the game seems more polished than the rest.

Now Im confused. So the PC version is longer than the XBOX version? If there were no levels on the XBOX version than why would they rehash levels on the PC version, because if that was the case the game could have just ended rather than the rehashes? Sorry If I dont understand, kinda confused.

Lasereth, I feel your pain, but I enjoy it anyways simply because it's a popularity contest. I know it's not actually deciding which game is beter, so I can just shake that off and enjoy the tourney.

No no, the PC version and XBox version are identical. I'm referring to the XBox version and PC version when I talk about the Flood levels that were rushed.
