Far Cry singleplayer demo out now

Get it at the usual places, although it's a whopping 490 megs... I only played a couple of minutes, but it looked great. The water is nice, and you can see *really* far!
Ran great with everything maxed out at 1024x768x32 on my rig.

Tropical island, guys with guns, huuuuuuge maps, beautiful graphics, nice physics, pretty good AI.
It looks stunning.
Throw a rock at a guard, jump back in your inflatable boat and sail away. The guard will yell at a couple of mates, and they'll enter a patrol boat and set pursuit after you... great fun.

Yes, I think it'll be really fun in multiplayer. Can't wait until the multiplayer demo comes out!

Question, I downloaded this and when I begin the mission, the screen is black, I can still see my radar and everything, but everything is black, is this normal?

Are you on an ATI card?
I am hearing that like 90% of the people with ATI cards have problems with this game.

But my thoughts on this game.. seems to be a mixed bag.
Generally speaking, the game is gorgeous. The water is unbelievably nice, the environment is there, and very lush.
Lots of characters, with some diversity...

But when I look more closely there are tons of problems. One time there was a dead body in front of me, and I backed up while still looking at it, and it instantly turns from a white soldier to a black soldier. Then I walked back forward, and it went back to a white soldier. Some evident problems with the LoD.
The AI, seems nice at times, but other times is downright stupid.
Sometimes I can just walk RIGHT up a soldier when hes looking at me, and not do a thing.
Sometimes when there are groups of soldiers all talking to each other, and I snipe one of them, the others just stand there and do nothing.
Of course there are other times when the AI works, and very nicely, but as a whole it seems to be half-screwed.
Not to mention all the things the enemies yell at you.. I dont think I've ever laughed so much in a game.
I hear some of them yelling something like, "I'm gonna get you mofo"
And other ridiculously stupid things to yell...
Maybe its what the german developers think that americans say all the time.. I have no idea.
I doubt anyone would say such stupid things when under attack...

The physics is very fun though. Best experience so far is when a soldier called in for backup, which came in a helicopter. And there was a soldier shooting at me in the helicopter, so I shot a rocket at it, and the soldier flew out of it, and landed on a banked hill and rolled all the way down.
Lots of fun with those sort of things, but still I think there could be a lot more interactivity.
Like why can you push this box, but you cant push this chair...

Overall, the game is interesting, but lacking in many areas.
And I get probably around 15 FPS at low-medium settings on my 2 ghz, 512 rd-ram, and GF3 64 mb machine...
But then, I like the concept of hardware having to catch up with games... rather than the other way around, which WAS a major problem with games.

D/l'ed it... played it... deleted it immediately.

Graphics were decent, but nothing special, AI I'm sorry but are retarded. Dont bother, buy Call of Duty.

the game is fun as hell. I don't know why all of you are searching so hard for the game, Nvidia.com had the demo available (and probably still does) and it went at like 250 KB/sec.

the graphics are awesome as hell, not because of the texture mapping, or super polygons, but the sheer amount of SHIT on the screen at one time. You can see the end of the level from the first point you start at in the beginning (look up the mountain).

also, when you get in the jungle, I've NEVER seen forests done so well. the trees and foliage are just incredible. when you see an enemy, you literally are looking for him like a Predator. it's hard as hell to see enemies behind trees and leaves

the guns are fun. nice and loud, and the rag-doll system (a la Max Payne 2) is perfect for the bad guys.

looks to be a very nice solid shooter. definitely play the demo.

I'm actually having trouble running the game. Everytime I run it, my computer does a nice fat restart. Here's the setup:

ASUS P4S8X
Intel 2.4B
512 PC 2100
ATI RADEON 9700 PRO
WinXP SP1

I'll leave the rest out because I doubt it's of *major* import

I have a 2.2 pentium with the 9700pro. I'm running it fine.

What others have said about the jungle is right. It's really cool to be able to walk through an area and feel like your exploring. There are pigs and stuff walking around. I think the multiplayer would definitly be different due to the shear amount of foliage on the screen.

The AI is really dumb though, and sometimes I die and don't know why.
