Gameboy.

The first time I played a gameboy I nearly exploded with delight.
I was expecting something like the handheld game&watch type thing - I was wrong! This thing was radically different, I lived the greeny color, Ive been hooked on Tetris since that day. I couldnt believe It had a volume control, I can remember telling people "& it has a fucking volume control!!" When my dad bought me one I went through the roof. I remember running into the city to buy new games & after a year or so I had more carts than anyone I knew.
THen GBC, then GBA, then GBASP, say what you like about Nintendo, the Gameboy rules.

So, Do youz like Gameboy?

Realizm 05-03-2003 08:35 AM

Gameboy owns.. Zelda.. Tetris... i love it

Boris37 05-03-2003 11:01 AM

i love gameboy, every one of them. i played on a travel ice hockey team and we traveled up and down the east coast, and the gameboy was the only thing that got me there without being bored out of my mind. many games from zelda to metroid 2, now the GBA is freakin awesome, thank you nintendo!!!

I agree, still got my origional ameboy (non of these fancy dancy pocket game boys, or even, horror of horrors, color game boys).
although I'm still trying to find the origional zelda for it...I guess I'll have to buy it on ebay....
but I wastee more hours on tetris than just about anything else...
great game...

yeah the origional ameboy ruled.

I dunno, I find the GBA to be sort of disappointing. It can be as advanced as you like, but it's still portable, and so has a tiny screen and extremely limited controls. The fact that the GBA SP is so miniscule as to fit in the palm of my hand is just totally ludicrous. There's only so much you can shrink something before it becomes detrimental. My friend has one, and he almost never plays it, opting instead for playing his console at home and reading when on the road. I can see it being good for puzzle games, but playing a zelda game on a handheld just seems too frustrating.

I want to get a GameBoy for when I am waiting for the bus, etc. What is the difference between a regular GameBoy Advanced and the new Platinum? Is it worth the extra $30. What are the best games for the GameBoy? Much appreciated

anleja 05-04-2003 11:51 PM

The screen on a regular Gameboy Advance is nearly impossible for me to see, I had to buy a seperate attachment that clips on that shines a light towards the screen. From what I understand, the newest Game Boy has a back lit screen, so that right there would probably make it worth a bit of extra money. The newest one also has a way to plug it into the wall to charge, so you don't need to buy batteries.

I had the original Gameboy, I even took a picture of my Tetris score to mail to Nintendo Power for their high score section. Years went by, then last fall, I was laid off from my job, and I thought I could use part of my severance package to indulge in the GBA. Much of the games seem really geared for kids, but I like Mega Man X and Metroid Fusion. The Street Fighter 2 game is pretty authentic to the original version. I think there is also a way to hook it up to your TV via GameCube, but I'm not sure how that works.

I still have an love my original gameboy. The thing's huge, so it fits right into my hands-- my little bro has one of the little color ones and I feel like i'm going to break it every time I use it. >_<
And tetris rocks my socks off!!!

clockworkgreen 05-05-2003 06:59 PM

I just scored one on Ebay for about $20 with a bunch of games. Can't wait to get it.

I could never afford one back in the day, so I'll enjoy it even more now.

I just got my daughter a sp for her birthday a couple of days ago. Any suggestions for good games to get her, so far we have Spiro Season of Ice, Super Mario World 2, Monsters Inc, and Egg Mania.

Oh ya, she's 6, so appropriate games for her would be good, but so would games for her dad when he sneaks off with it.:D

I got me a new SP for my birthday(26) and I fucking love it. Nothings better than handheld gaming while sitting at the boring ass job. The screen lighting problem of the GBA is no more, and the rechargable battery lasts forever. I accidentally left my game paused, with the back light on, in my pocket for 5 hours, and it still had power when I realized it later. The small size is great, barely bigger than a pack of smokes so its easy to take everywhere. The buttons aren't as hard to manage as you'd think with the small size.

Plus there is the new Zelda: link to the past for it, which was my favorite Zelda on the old Super NES. I found quite a few older Super NES games are being re-released for the GBA.

fuelmyfire 05-08-2003 08:17 AM

I wish i could still play my old game boy.
Years ago my mother sold it and 3 games at our garage sale for $5.00 (CAN)
She figured i didn't use it anymore.
I was outraged, but never bought another one for fear of feeling guilty spending money on a "child's toy" rather than monthly rent.

clockworkgreen 05-08-2003 04:08 PM

fuelmyfire - dude, that's why you head over to ebay. Unless your rent is $2000 a month, you should be able to afford a slightly used gameboy with some games for about $20.

I actually won 2 auctions, so I have 2 on the way with about 14 games for less than $40...Can't wait. My roommate has the SP, I'll have to wait until I get some more cash for that one...

KBilly 05-08-2003 08:41 PM

I got a SP for my birthday. The thing is really small, so you'll probably get cramps if you play for a few hours. But the light and rechargeable battery make it worth it.

Spungfoo 05-08-2003 08:46 PM

I still have my first generation GB from when I was a whelp. It's sitting right next to the john so I can play Tetris while I'm dropping a duece. :)

Scorpion23 05-11-2003 06:46 PM

I've got a GBA, and I must say it's worthless without the afterburner light I installed in it. Now it’s the same thing as the GBA SP but fits in your hand better, and it’s cheaper. It was definitely the best mod I've ever made to a game system.

BulletBob 05-11-2003 07:16 PM

I've got one but I don't seem to play it much anymore. Nothing is better on a road trip though.
