Anyone played silent storm?
I just got this, and I'd never heard of it before. I'm very pleasantly surprised by it. It's like a WW2 version of X-COM. You have to build an elite squad, RPG style, and take it into tactical turn-based combat. It doesn't sound so great on paper, but it's executed pretty well, and one of the coolest things is the way bodies crumple and tumble when you whack em, and everything around you splinters when bullets go flying. It's a great payoff when you whack a nazi on a ganway and watch him go flying back into the railing, which he tumbles over before crashing to the ground in an awkward-looking heap.
I'm pretty impressed... anyone into it? |
Yep, I've beat the Allies mission about a month ago, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Here's a hint: Grenadiers are great for throwing things other than grenades, like shurikens or throwing knives. Even better than Scouts. Doesn't seem quite right, but thats the way it works... I think Silent Storm's engine would do extremely well in an X-COM total conversion... aah, that would be the day. |
Ihave been looking into it, but havn't grabbed it yet....sounds like I should though.

I saw it on sale at Best Buy I think, not sure if it was what you are talking about or not but it was only $20 I think. May have to go back and pick it up.

I get the impression it's a bit of an underdog. I'm sure the publisher has sent games to our newspaper before for review, and if they're sending games to us, they've got to be desperate for coverage. Shame, cos this is one slick game. Apart from the manual and the writing quality of the script, and in-game dialogues... The gameplay's pretty outstanding though.
