Red Faction
 

My brother bought this a couple of months ago because it was incredibly cheap. I knew it was outdated and everything, but yesterday I gave it a try. Man, those graphics SUCK. I couldn't stand it! The level was so bland. The controls weren't that great either.

I've heard excellent reviews from it though (when it came out). Has anyone played it (recently OR back then)? Is it worth wading through the shitty graphics? Or should I put it back on the shelf?

Stick with it. The graphics in some spots are TERRIBLE but I loved the overall game.

I really liked the first Red Faction, great story, very similar to Halflife IMO.

However, Red Faction II is complete shit...IMO.

Yeah, I haven't bothered with RF II. It just looked like crap from the start.

That's odd, Red Faction 2 has got better reviews than the first one from almost every reviewer. IGN and Electronic Gaming Monthly both hailed it better than the first...what do you guys not like about it? I haven't played either, but there's obviously something odd about it to you guys if you say it sucks.

I didn't read any reviews. My impression came from the description of the game on the box and the screenshots I've seen on the web and on the box. Maybe I'm also a little biased against sequels.

Red Faction 2 for pc was a good single player game, however...NO MULTIPLAYER!!

I played RF on playstation. It was so fustrating and the gameplay was so friggin slow. I was used to Unreal Tourney, Quake and Wolfenstein type of gameplay but RF took the crown for being slow ass game...

Guess i am the only one who mildly like this game.
The graphics is good for its time. of course if u r gonna compare it with doom 3 or hl 2 it is crap.
The game is noticable for it adaption in the geomod engien, which means that you can destroy any thing in the game world. I dont know if any one tried to dril a hole with a tunneling machine or take out a take by blasting the flool below it with an RPG. That s some of the best time u can have in an fps.
Oh yeah, the eneminies you will see is quite repetitive. But if you like mindless killing with a midocore story then this game is good for you.

to the guy above me, every game is slow compared to quake and UT. those two games are designed to play online, not in a single player campaign.

Oh yes the geomod. I found it bizarre how you could only blow holes in walls a few times, in certain spots, and you can't blow up fragile objects like tables. It would have been awesome if it was pulled off correctly.

I've only played number 2 and I thought it was mediocre in playability.. the graphics the same.. I had fun with the mechs tho.. :D And I thought the story line went well with the twists and turns...

If you've got problems with the game.. download a upgrade patch. Or atleast see if one is available.
