Rockstar announces Grand Theft Auto: Sin City, San Andreas, Bogota, and Tokyo!

That's right! The US Patent Office released that the company that owns Rockstar bought the patents for FOUR new GTA games in December.

Quote:

From IGN:

January 12, 2004 - While everyone else was running around doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, Take-Two Interactive registered 10 Grand Theft Auto-related trademarks on December 17 and 21, 2003, including both GTA: Sin City and GTA5. If you have been following the news on GTA recently, you probably already know this.

But there is more to the GTA trademark story than first revealed. More than three or four GTA-related name were registered in December. Eight of these trademarks were registered on December 17. The ones you already know about are GTA5, GTA6 and GTA: San Andreas.

However, several more were registered, including five more trademarked names, GTA: Sin City, Grand Theft Auto: Sin City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the entirely unheard of Grand Theft Auto: Bogota and GTA: Bogota.

It gets even better. Four days later, on December 21, 2003, when even fewer people were paying attention, Take-Two Interactive also registered another one entirely new prospective title, GTA: Tokyo and Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo.

It's clear Take-Two has long-term plans for GTA, this we knew and expected, given it's the most popular series on PS2 and arguably the most influential game in this generation of systems. And, without using too much brainpower, we knew that the franchise would continue moving from town to town, both exciting and smart.

With so many names trademarked at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office web site for the series, it's likely that two things are happening: 1) A few of these names are red herrings to keep fans guessing as to the next locale, or 2) they're names for games appearing in the long-term future. We tried to contact representatives at Rockstar, but at press time we have not had any official reply. We'll have more on the GTA series very soon.
So now, gamers can look forward to:

Grand Theft Auto: Sin City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto: Bogota
Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo

The article mentions that Rockstar may have registered these simply to keep gamers guessing which city the next GTA will take place in...but that just seems like a waste of time and money. Let's hope for the best!

I can't wait. The last two GTA games have had me incredibly addicted with their amazing physics engine and story. Bring it on, Rockstar!

SWEET JUMPIN JESUS!!!!!! I need new pants....

omega2K4 01-12-2004 09:01 PM

Rockstar, let's not turn this into a "Tony Hawk" franchise. As long as the games aren't ridiculously easy like GTA3 and VC, they might be good.

Hercules 01-12-2004 09:01 PM

Amazing news indeed! Great news!
I love the series, I've played since the first game.
And with the reports of Rockstar earning over $260 million in the first year with Vice City alone, its clear they are making tons of cash off this!
Bring on more games! They all are good!

But the more games, the more chances for idiot activist people to flame them for being so violent.

charlesesl 01-12-2004 10:11 PM

I hope its not Tokyo.
Too many pedestrians = high system requirement
Plus japanese cars that explode after a minor dent = not fun at all

viper11885 01-12-2004 10:22 PM

Awesome!!! Glad to hear that the series lives on!

Had a blast playing the original series. Can't wait for these new ones to come out.

Mr.Deflok 01-12-2004 10:35 PM

I hope that this means you can travel from city to city using the airport!!! DROOLS x 1,000,000,000

GakFace 01-13-2004 01:22 AM

Yeah planes would be fun... more planes

All i have to say is this.. If they dont' have COMPLETE Online Code.. I'm going to have to hurt somebody.. and it isn't going to be me!

And they say GTA provokes violence in young men. ;)

Silvy 01-13-2004 03:31 AM

This is good news.

All I ask is that they continue the franchise as they have before. I've loved GTA since game 1, and the 3D versions are the best! Let's hope they don't start stomping them out on an assembly line....

The city characteristics were great in GTA3 and VC, and that is difficult to achive (I especially liked the city planning in 3), I hope they won't cut short on that in the future...

Easy? Which missions were you playing.....

Some of those later missions on both games kept me going back tens of times. The games may be "easy" simply because you can beat them in a week or two, but not ridiculously easy ......

The_Dude 01-13-2004 11:01 AM

SWEET MAN SWEET!

sure fucking hope that they release them for pc's too!

I ran through GTA3 and GTAVC very easily, I didn't die or get busted once. If you've ever played GTA1, London, and/or GTA2, you'll know that they are easily 15 times more difficult than GTA3 and GTAVC.

Mr.Deflok 01-13-2004 12:05 PM

You obviously didn't play the Dildo Dodo mission on the PC!

bltzkriegmcanon 01-13-2004 12:24 PM

This is fuckin awesome news for the series, rockstar gets my /hero for the day!

sure, if you use the cheats.....if you're saying you didn't die once, or get busted once, that is a lie...the only way you can do that is with cheats or something going on. there is simply no way you could run through both games and not die or get busted. no way at all, I don't care who you are. and I've played GTA 1 and GTA 2, and they are difficult, but 3 and VC can be difficult at times also. enough to where you would die and/or get busted every once in a while........

Lasereth 01-13-2004 03:47 PM

Yeah, if anyone were to beat the "Save Lance" mission the first time without failing then I'd personally make them my Hero. Same thing with a dozen of the other missions in the game. Some are simply impossible to beat the first time...a few of them require memorizing the entire city to get through in under the time limit. I'll admit that I did beat the game with every mission in under a week, but that's not saying I didn't play some of the missions dozens of times each. :)

OOooooooooooOOooo Man if GTA online allowed you to fly to other countries/cites... SICK~~ o my.. I would pay :D

diergray 01-13-2004 05:12 PM

I wonder how the online version would work? You couldn't walk anywhere because someone would run you over. All of the people in cars would be smashing into everything! How would they maintain the premise in a massive online world?

I know a year or so back there was a mutliplayer mod for GTA: 3 in the works, but I have no idea if it was ever finished or how well it ran. I think up to 8 people could play in the city at once. You're right, it would be crazy if it were MMO. :)

GTA is what online games need to be like
I hope one of them is online. If not an mmorpg, they should have multi system co-op. You and a friend jump into a car, or 2 cars, and do a mission together, watching each others backs. It would be great. The new GTA games were amazing. I remember seeing it in stores and passing it right over, thinking it would be the same as the GTA2. I hope to be just as surprised with the next ones.

Where's the fun in that?! Part of the beauty of these games is getting a full wanted level and seeing how long you can last without getting busted or dead, without bothering yourself with missions.

GakFace 01-13-2004 09:59 PM

MTA EXISTS!!! I play MTA on Vice City quite Frequently. The netcode isn't the best yet, but it has really improved! They have stunt servers and Deathmatch Servers. Sadly people do cheat.. even in this. But you're safe in the Stunt Servers.. no guns, but you still have cars.. and the imfamous Helicopter Blades :D... Dunno if there's a hunter in the stunt servers...

It seriously can be a lot of fun. A TFP Server would be sweet. :) I just want Rockstar Games to FINISH their Online Code this time around as good netcode would have been sweet... that and the mods that would have been made off that game? ooooh weeeee!

oh yeah MTA has a copy for both GTA:3 and GTA:VC

If GTA: Vice City was based on Miami, are we safe to assume Grand Theft Auto: Sin City will be based on Vegas (obviously) and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be set in Los Angeles or San Francisco?

Mr.Deflok 01-13-2004 11:19 PM

I'm guessing GTA: Tokyo will be set in Tokyo, don't ask why though, just a feeling I've got.

bundy 01-17-2004 11:41 PM

well, i just went and changed my pants.

i´ve just got back from Tokyo - and its the best damn city in the world!!

the thought of GTA: Tokyo gets me hot under the collar...

thanks for the update Las.

Yeah. I don't see how you could beat the games without dying or getting busted. But what's worse is that he is missing out on a huge part of the game by "not dying." (If that's true.)

Taking out the helicopter with the rocket launcher seems to piss them off quite nicely :)

Man/Amazing 01-18-2004 11:56 AM

Yes more car jackin for the years to come.

BogeyX 01-18-2004 02:13 PM

i just bought the 2 game pack, damn, they rule 2 much

Lestat 01-18-2004 11:06 PM

Sweet. Can I preorder it yet?

mr_mcrafe 01-19-2004 02:16 AM

Omfg I've been looking around on information the next GTAs. I can't wait! Love the series :D

Hrothgar 01-19-2004 02:30 AM

Great I hope this isn't the politically correct version the idiots who where protesting GTA:VC want where if you run someone over he doesn't yell, " Pardon me sir, your car is on my chest."

mystix 01-19-2004 05:51 AM

as long as i keep getting to kill new people, it should be fun

DUDE, NO WAY!!! That's the same thought I had! That's sooooooo surreal, dude.

NoseyJoe 01-24-2004 08:12 PM

I think Sin City would be a great city for GTA. Vegas baby!!

mbchills 01-24-2004 09:12 PM

They're going to kill it :(

kurtisj 01-28-2004 07:30 PM

I got burnt out on the gta 3 and vice city, so hopefully these will redeem the games for me!

wario 01-30-2004 03:38 PM

Totally looking forward to it here.
I just hope they add the ability to swim, even if just a little bit. I'm tired of dying in the water hazards on the stupid golf course.

bigbad 01-31-2004 03:15 AM

I will probably own all of these whether they are good or not... ;)

IckUber 01-31-2004 01:02 PM
