Gothic and Gothic 2. These are the best games ive ever played. Greater than any Final Fantasy game.

I have no idea why they put no advertising into it. But trust me, if you like role playing games. These are for you.

I tend to frown on games that don't give me any character creation options at start.

Might I suggest you play fallout 1/2, Deus Ex and Balder's Gate II

Another great RPG for the PC: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Thats the great part about gothic, as you play, you control what your character becomes.

What kind of RPG is it? It looks kind of like a Kingsfield type game.

I must say that i absolutely loved Gothic. One of the few games that kept me interested from beginning to end.

Icewind dale (the first one) nice gameplay, but it actually had a good plot- rare these days

if you like direct control of your char might i also suggest dugen sedgie


its a hack and slash though there is a story

but the items and spells you use detrime your chars development

Just started Gothic2, great graphics but don't much care for the ctrl + w,a,or d to attack though. Maybe I'll get used to it

Yea, I thought the same thing while playing Gothic 1. Actually, after re-reading your post, you dont have to use ctrl +wsad. Just hold down primary mouse button and use wsad. Probably be much easier for you.

toss up between ffx and ff3 both are great for there own reasons

Though looking back on things and realizing that it actually wasn't really an RPG, I played Asheron's Call (it's an MMORPG on PC) for almost two years before I got bored of it.

That's a toughie! I'd say Final Fantasy Tactics.

No search feature = lots of already posted topics

I realize that, that's why I said "a few pages down." I'd have said to use the search function if it worked! I simply recommended that someone hunt down that thread and reply so it'll be back up here with plenty of opinions.

star ocean the second story

best rpg ever (in my opp of course) would deff be baulders gate 1,(that is if u like storyline and awsome gameplay but dont care as much for graphics) followed by knights of the old republic

Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption, was a great game and it is still comparable graphically to games that are out now.

I like Divine Divinity, tons of quests and decent graphics, should be under $20. check it out at www.larian.com

For PC:

- Fallout 2 - takes top honor, the setting is awesome and the amount of freedom you have with your character is unmatched

- Baulder’s Gate 2 - another great game

For Console:

- Final Fantasy Tactics – has the best plot ever written.



PS. I cant believe some one suggested Dungeon Siege…if you like 50 hours of slashing at the same monster (in different skins) then be my guest.

As others have said, Gothic 1 and 2 are great.

Summoner is another really underrated RPG IMO.

Of course series like Baldur's Gate, Fallout etc are great too, but everyone knows that already.

You want a ton of RPG's? Easy - just go buy a GBA SP. That system has just about more RPG's than any other system going. The greatest part of it is that it's portable too.

Planescape Torment : as someone already mentioned, best game ever!
System Shock 2 : not sure if it goes under the rpg category, but certain elements of it make it seem like an rpg. Brilliant game.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old republic.....either for xbox or pc....pc version has mouse and makes it easier to select things...

or i also agree with jameshook gba has TONS and literally TONS of rpgs....best probably being the golden sun series

Very true. Except for me, it wasn't that tough of a decision. Geez, that game is like no other.

really the only reason I'm posting in this thread is to say that one of the former great PC RPG makers is now no more. :(

Black Isle Studios (Fallout, Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, etc) is now closed. So no Fallout 3 for all the hopeful thinkers out there. :(

Vampire the Masqurade redemption I think is an underrated rpg.

I will add the RPG qualifier to that statement, but it's otherwise accurate.

Hmm never could get into dues ex - tried very hard to, but it did not seem very interesting. Also did not like Baldurs Gate 1, it just seemed a bit boring.
Dungeon Siege is brilliant, and is well worth giving a go.

not exactly a straight rpg, more of a strategy rpg but Brigandine for the PSone is pretty cool

To balance the above opinion: I would rather put a bullet in the head then play that uninspired, unoriginal and repetitive slasher.

Also...

Just got Vampire the Masquerade. I was expecting cool looking vampires, instead they look like the art from Disney’s Hercules. The game play itself is alright though and I like the idea of feeding on humans. Though I hope I will be able to chose a more bloodthirsty clan later on instead of the pussy-gnomes you start off with in the beginning.

I stick to BG series since it is the best all rounder.
Planescape has better story but bad combat.
IWD series are vice versa.
Fallout series are big on enviroment, but never struck me as much for gameplay and story.
FF series, at best its the finest counsle rpg series, at worst, its a highly pretetitive game with semi original storyline.
Diable and Doungen Seige are really not RPGs
Morrowind is a game that focuses on exploration. Quests are fedex at best.
Divine Divnity has a good gameplay, but horrouble gfx for its time.
NWN is just too repetive.
KOTOR is about to be the only RPG comparable to BG interms of overall quality, but falls a bit short partly due to into counsle heritage which slightly hindered its gameplay.

I can not stress XENOGEARS for the original PS enough!

That's odd! I LOVED Suikoden (I beat it twice), and loved the second one just as much if not more. It was even more complex than the first! I haven't played Suikoden 3, but I've heard from some people that it's not as good as 1 or 2. I still want it, however -- I'm waiting for it to go down in price. I can't find it for any less than $30 USD USED!

The RPG I logged the most hours on was Chrysalis for NES - anyone remember that one? Had great graphics (for the time, naturally), a giant world to roam around in, and very fun gameplay. Probably killed any chance I would have had at a social life for a year or so..

Phantasy Star 4 (SGEN)

That was a great game, better then any FF SNES in my opinion.

Another favorite series of mine back in the Genesis days was Shining Force.

I agree that DS is pretty awesome, but, may give RPers too light an RPG taste.

well, i don´t have all that much experience in RPGs...

but Morrowind has recently stolen about a month of my life.

its a brilliant game.
