Morrowind...who's with me!
No search function...but I don't remember anything posted about my new favorite game.
I've been out of the loop for awhile, I set down the controller a few years ago, and just picked it up again last weekend. I was sick for work on monday and tuesday (cough,cough)...yeah right, and "sick again on Friday! I can't believe how cool and huge this game is. It's so detailed, I really can't believe it. Does anybody else play this game? I can't be the only one! If I am, you are all missing out bigtime!

Morrowind is an amazing game, but almost too non-linear. I got my character to level 33 I believe. I haven't played it in a while (it's really hard to get back into it after stopping for a while because of the shitty quest journal that refuses to keep track of which quests you've completed), but I'd love to get back into it sometime. It also takes the award for "This game really needs a multiplayer version!" The graphics and gameplay are simply begging for it. I know the quests wouldn't work right with multiplayer, but a MMORPG or LAN game with that combat engine and graphics would simply kick ass.

The expansions are alot more linear and story-driven than the original game. I highly reccomend them.
On that note, Morrowind Game of the Year edition just came out for xbox and included BOTH expansions for only $30, that is a great deal! |

I loved Morrowind. I thought it was a really awesome game. I really haven't played it that much in a while though. I remember, I played it for a really long time beat a shitload of stuff there is to beat in the game (although I'm sure there is still more to beat) and then I ended up getting the expansion Bloodmoon (the one where you can become a werewolf.) And then I just about beat everything for it. I had two seperate main saves. One where I was a werewolf. And the other was my normal guy. I still haven't beat the storyline for my werewolf guy. Anyway, basically I thought Morrowind was fucking awesome. I'm gonna have to start playing it again sometime.

damn, i'm sorry but i really have to disagree. morrowind is by far one of the worst games i've played... don't get me wrong, the graphics are nice, as well as the music and the game itself is a decent package, but the quests are ridiculous. here's an example of a typical journey in the game. 'You! Find me my special shoes on the other side of the world and i will reward you handsomely, oh... and if you bring me a golden flower i will add 2 special wooden nickels to your coffers.' from here you'll easily 2 to 3 hours finding this man's special shoes and returning them back to him... then you find out he was only kidding and you have no reward. i remember burning this game when some prostitute told me to find her ring at the bottom of a lake, after 20 min, i found the stupid thing, give it to her, and then i have to run away cayse she starts attacking me. i mean... come on, she attacked me after i helped her out, thats where the line was drawn and i crossed over to FPS from RPG. eh... /rant

I lizove the game! I would live it if I could. My little brother plays even more than I do. He has even killed one of the gods, I forget his name, I think it starts with a V. Anyway, I'm completely with you man, and very against SiphonX and hope he one day sees the light (or quickly dies).

Man. In my opinion, Morrowind is the best game ever. You can do ANYTHING you want to do. I just had the original for the Xbox, and I just picked up The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition (Has the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions AND the original) for the Xbox last week ($29), and it is so great. You could choose to follow the main quest if you want, or just go off and do your own thing. I've heard it takes 200+ hours to finish EVERYTHING in Morrowind (WITHOUT the expansions Tribunal and Bloodmoon), but I've had to spend at least that much just fucking around (stealing/exploring/killing/etc). My main character is level 65 something, and I haven't even started working on the main quest. I really fucking hate RPGs, I fucking despise them actually, but Morrowind is the only RPG I've enjoyed (Besides Star Wars: KotOR) ever. Morrowind is so beautiful, every little thing is detailed, the weather effects, small items, armor, trees, plants, water, & etc, are all rendered beautifully. My favorite thing about Morrowind is that it is not linear. In my opinion, once you've played one Final Fantasy-type RPG, you've played them all. They are so linear, you can't do anything on your own, you have to follow the game's shitty, predetermined plot down to the last detail. Whereas in Morrowind, you can do whatever you want, become a vampire, werewolf, mage, warrior, alchemist, adventurer, crusader, just whatever you fucking feel like. Don't like a comment a villager said to you? Smash his fucking skull in with a club, take the key to his chest, take all his valubles, etc. I really love this game, I could go on for days explaining how much I love it, but talking so much about it, makes me want to go play it right now, so I'll shut up.

Morrowind is cool, but I did find myself growing bored with it after a while. Still, I'd like to try out the Game of the Year Edition...

I agree - Morrowind is really cool. I have it installed on my comp. but havn't played it for a while. I think my character is around level 30 and all his stats are close to 100. Havn't played it for a while now and reading this thread has got me thinking about getting back into the game again.
That reminds me. I remeber I had a little problem on one of the Quests. In Vivec city part of the Temple Quest (the one where you have to visit 8 holy places to get admission) is to visit shrine of vivec i think. I remember i was inside some sort of pyramid temple and got to a place full of water inside the pyramid. Further up there was a ledge but it was blocked by a forcefield which I never got past. I tried flying and drinking different potions but never got past. Any suggestions on how to get past the forcefield ? |

Yeah see! I knew I wasn'tthe only one! I have the game of the year edition for XBOX. I agree that what makes the game so great is that it is not a linear RPG. The freedom is great. Sort of like D&D for your TV. I just hadn't played in a long time...any video game....I was just blown away. I've only had the gamefor a week and I already have like 60 hours into it. I would have more, but they made me go to work!!

Gothic 2
imhop Gothic 2 is much better ... with the expansion it has also alot of places to visit (well not as much as Morro) but it feels more life like, people go to bed when it gets dark .. it seems more realistic than morro where all is soo static

Great game. Seriously flawed, but still great. I never actually beat it, though.
Ya know, I always thought that Morrowind had the makings for a great MMORPG. There are so many things a character could be good at, it seemed that the game would lend it self to a "profession" system really easily, as well as so many ways a character could be good in combat. The main problem is that any particular character can get good at any and all of the skills required. So with some more character balance.... does that make any sense?

The only reason I quit playing this game on Xbox was the super long load screens. I tried to kill some witch in a crypt and died. Then I wait 5 minutes for it to reload and try again.
One thing I learned today is that I don't need to worry about killing the wrong person. Sounds like I can kill everybody and just keep playing according to this post. I think I'll pick up the game-of-the-year addition now. Does anybody know if the character I already have will work on the newer version? |

I thought this was an all-right game... My biggest beef was that it seemed any profession I was interested it, it fell short. So, for example, when I wanted to be a thief, I soon realized all the missions were essentially the same dreary actions of walking behind somebody and waiting for nobody to look before you gank something. It was amusing, but it got dull. I guess this is the tradeoff you have to make since the game has soooo many available options, it can't make every one of them super detailed.

I thought it was a very good game. All the little things combined with the non-linearity (sp?) of the game made it great fun. Finally a game where you can't just steal stuff in front of someone! Plus the skill based leveling system allowed for great character diversity although I'm not usually a big fan of skill based leveling.
