Anyone else in the PlanetSide open beta? I just got my discs today...installed it a little while ago, and now I have to download about a metric fuckload of patches. Oh well... at least the game looks pretty cool.

I'm not in it, but I'm interested to hear from some actual players before I go out and get it... it just looks like a bigger game of Tribes now. :(

Do they have a release date yet? I hope they dont push it as much as Star Wars galaxies.

I'm in the exclusive beta. I must say the game ROCKED until the megapatch on Friday. Now I CTD all the time and the servers have been up and down all weekend.

Otherwise, I like it alot. If you ever thought you might play for a stable Quake server that added content, this might be for you.

I'm also in SWG beta but the NDA is still up on that one.

I got my discs today, but the game won't let me play. I have 234 megs of ram. The game locks you out if you have less than 256, even if you have 254 megs. I'm really pissed.

Anyone know of a crack to let me get by this? I'm willing ot sacrifice a few fps to play this game. Maybe they will change this later.

I hear nothing but good things about PlanetSide. The problem most people seem to be having is they doubt that they will stay interested for very long.

With me there has to be some goals to reach, especially in MMO style games, to keep me playing. I cant run on just the fragfest, I load UT2003 if I feel like that, which is rare.

I'm on citrine as Phaenx. Terran, thinking about switching to Vanu.

I have this friend who's totally obsessed with PS. I dunno, doesnt seem THAT great: plus you need a hulk of a machine to run it. :(

im in beta (been in since the begining) when i get home will post some screenshots. The game is a blast but the servers have been up and down alot lately.

I'm waiting on my discs stilll....how long did it take for yours to arrive. How the hell do u get 254 MB ram......everyinghting in computers operate in powers of two.

It doesn't let you for a reason. Planetside eats ram like a mother. 512 DDR? Not enough.

True. I don't know why, but the urge to upgrade my rig came almost at the same time as I got into the Beta :) My 1gig /512mb ram machine is laggy during big firefights.

Mobo arrived today, case should be here tomorrow.

I cant wait to try this game!

Personally, I enjoy playing "traditional" FPS' better myself. I just couldn't rationalize paying a monthly fee for this type of gameplay. PS just doesn't have any truely revolutionary ideas that haven't been in other games

I started playing Planetside today, and it's an amazing game. The graphics are wonderful, and it has minimal lag even on my semi-gimped system. I can't wait to get a big outfit going.

I'm not sure if I'll pay for it, but I've pretty much stopped playing MOHAA for it. The world is huge, there are many vehicles and many options of things to do. It's what I had always hoped Tribes/2 would be. I've often wondered if I would pay for a shooter that would add content and had a large, stable persistent world. Looks like I'm about to find out.

I love the game when they can keep the servers up for more than 15 mins at a time

I used to drop every 10-20 minutes myself. If you're behind a router disable wan blocking and dmz yourself.

Just got into the beta, and youre right its just like a tribes game pretty much, and ya the only thing I see that might be bad is losing interest, cause you dont really level up, so theres no real reward really and its sorta not one of those games that you can just pop in and get a few kills then leave when youre bored like quake or something.

i could care less if you buy it. but to compare it to another game that is completely different is stupid.

Anarchy Online has improved by leaps and bounds from release I hear. It is very different from planet side, which is pretty much tribes online, I won't be paying monthly fee's for it either.

Yeah paying monthly for an fps can seem kinda odd. But 15$ is nothing to be able to play with 1000s online imo.

Anarchy Online and PlanetSide are two different kinds of games....

Anarchy Online is a lot better than it was around release time. Funcom fixed tons of bugs/exploits and added mucho content. To bad my experience with that game prevents me from ever playing it again.

PlanetSide may be worth 12 bucks a month. Right now after a couple of months i can see myself getting bored of capping bases and defending towers. Unless they add more content, i'll stick around for a bit then hold off until something new comes along.
