FFX 2

is anyone else as giddy as i am about this game? im a hardcore FF fan and i have to say that making this game the first one to be a sequel was a good idea. there are just so many things that could happen at the end of FFX like where did tidus go and is sin really gone for good? and if he is how will the world change? i cant wait for december 3rd to get this game.

Mr.Deflok 09-05-2003 12:31 AM

Isn't it already out in Japan? Plus does anybody know if it's still turn-based combat? 'Cause that's the reason I couldn't stomach the FF games, I mean they're rich and beautiful but the gameplay is horrendous (to me anyway, not trying to be an asshole).

SecretMethod70 09-05-2003 01:27 AM

FF will ALWAYS be turn-based.

I'm looking forward to FFX-2 as well - it should be quite different. I haven't played FFX yet (finally getting a PS2 though, so I'll soon be able to :D), but from what I've read FFX-2 is going to be a bit of a different approach to the general feel.

The page I got this from isn't working, but here's the google cache of the article I read....

Quote:

E3 2003: Judging from the crowd around Square's booth, a throng of eager gamers waiting for a chance to play FFX-2, it's clear that those early misgivings about the Girls Gone Wild direction of the game have been replaced by delighted gasps of approval. And why not? FFX-2 is just as compelling as any other Final Fantasy, with a quick, slick, and raucous battle system. The story has all the melodrama you want, but with a nice dose of light-hearted humor. And the presentation is just fantastic. I've been trying to hammer this point home for months, but I'll say it again: This game is everything you want from a Final Fantasy, with a creamy slice of cheescake to boot. I can't wait.

Previous E3 impression by D. F. Smith, Gamers.com
E3 2003: Final Fantasy X-2 cheerfully flips the bird towards any kind of reverence for its fabled name and most dedicated followers. This is the best possible direction its creators could have taken. Where is it written, after all, that Final Fantasy should have to take itself so seriously? Why not cut loose and have a little fun with it? Or for that matter, a whole lot of fun -- guns, giant robots, outlandish costumes, bouncing pop music, lots of skin, and enough lesbian innuendo to send the FHM/Maxim set into their locked bedrooms for hours of getting to know themselves better. There will undoubtedly be resistance to the themes and style of this sequel, but I expect it will serve only to amuse the more open-minded.
There's a little comething to wet your lips - there's more to the article of course, so here's a link in case the page ever comes back up: http://www.gamers.com/game/1260108

IckUber 09-05-2003 07:06 AM

Well ive played it. The Jap version that is. It's very fast pasted, the combat is active time battle. If you dont choose an attack, the monster will kill you. either way, i didnt play much for 2 reasons.
1. I cant read Japspeak so its hard to figure out what to do next.
2. I didnt want to spoil any of the game.

But ill tell you this, this game looks very nice, and from what i could tell its going to be very awesome. Looks like its going to have a great story line, with a twist of the new battle system (job classes, like tactics) My only warning is that this game was very japaneese, lots of singing and dancing, with popy music, it kinda silly, but you know how those japs like there pop! Anyways, i read somewhere that some of the jap stuff is going to be dulled down for us "big eyes". Im sure the singing will stay there tough, some stuff its just part of the story line.

Yuna's hotter
I'm buying

Mr. Moe 09-06-2003 09:55 PM

It looks good..except for Yuna being a J-Pop star...that is just weird.

Locke 09-06-2003 10:03 PM

I wouldnt say I'm giddy about it, but I will get it. I wish there would be some sort of sequal for FF6.

says the person who's named after a character from it ;)

That would be quite cool though.

burgerdog 09-07-2003 01:08 AM

I do think that some of the other games in the series would make more ineteresting sequels, I am psyched for this.

The line was too long at e3 to play it, but what I saw looked great. And I like the return of the job system.

H12 09-07-2003 06:33 PM

The only FF I've ever played alot of is FF7 (although I've wanted to play more of the FF that had, what was it called, Blitzball? I played that FF for about 2 hours and liked it, but I don't remember anything about it other than one of the characters is a Blitzball player...can anyone help me out here?), and that's one of the only 3 RPG's I've ever played alot of and liked (FF7, Mario RPG, and Chrono Trigger...even though I still think CT is over-rated). I wish they'd make FFVII-2 before they made FFX-2, but it's all good. I look forward to it, given its hype and what my friends say about it. I'll probably rent it.

SecretMethod70 09-07-2003 06:53 PM

FFX is the one with Blitzball, so FFX-2 is the sequel to one you liked ;)

DownwardSpiral 09-07-2003 07:01 PM

I am looking forward to Final Fantasy X-2 in certain aspects. I am anxious to see how they continue it. On the other hand, they could have made sequels to other Final Fantasies too, I mean I liked Final Fantasy X as much as the next guy, but it wasn't the best Final Fantasy by far. Then again. . . I guess just leaving some of the games as they are with no sequel can be good, why screw up something that's already great eh? I dunno, I'm at a crossroads obviously.

utang 09-08-2003 12:35 PM

I have some reservations about the whole pop-star/Charlies Angels thing they've got going. On the other hand, Square is good at creating compelling stories, and character you come to genuinely care about, so more of Yuna and Rikku will be much appreciated.

t3m3st 11-06-2003 09:31 PM

FFX2... Yuna...wow

who else is as totally in love with Yuna as me. Like, holy shit is she hot or what. ... looking for a real one that looks like her.,..cuz damn

Lasereth 11-06-2003 09:38 PM

I hope the voice editing is improved for her voice in this one! The acting was good and her voice was fine, but it seemed like every word she said was spoken one at a time and pasted together in an audio line. Ok, fine, it only did this sometimes, but when it did it was BAD.

Doesn't change the fact that FFX was one hell of a game.

-Lasereth

spived2 11-06-2003 10:05 PM

Yeah she did have some terrible voice acting in the first one. Since X2 is based mainly around her I'm sure they improved it though. cant wait, only a few more weeks!

Wtf, I want this game now! The counter on FFX for me has over 140 hours. Granted, I would just leave my ps2 on overnight, while I went to class (haha, whatever that was...), and such but I love ffx, I probably put around 100 hours of playing. That game is hot.

Jesus Pimp 11-07-2003 06:49 AM

The article is about six pages so I don't think I'm going to try to post it here, but I gave a link so you can check it out. I love the idea of having new game plus and multiple endings. Finally, a reason to beat the game more then once.:D

floonine 11-08-2003 09:53 AM

Lulu all the way for me, but mostly because most of my fantasies with her aren't as illegal as the ones with Rikku...

I really wanna get this game, but the whole changing outfits thing seems so metrosexual... I think I'll buy it when it drops in price in the spring or used, there are alot of other games I want more.

Mr.Deflok 11-10-2003 11:24 PM

As beautiful as the FF games are I can't afford to spend the time on them, I buy far too many games to spend 100 hours playing just one.

SecretMethod70 11-11-2003 06:24 PM

I'm REALLY looking forward to this game. Trying to beat FFX as soon as possible so I can get started on FFX-2 (after it comes out of course).

I really do like the sphere grid of FFX and I hope they use it or something like it for a few more games - they just need to add something so you can see the total AP a character has. The way it is in FFX it's hard to tell if one character is far more leveled up than another. Too bad it's not in FFX-2.

As far as FFX-2, I'm looking forward to seeing the stylistic changes they made. Girly is fine to me - when girly means hot girly :) :p Sorta sucks though that I know that somehow Yuna and Tidus don't stay together in the end of FFX thanks to the reviews of FFX-2 :p Woulda liked to be able to be more than 3 characters too, but whatever. At least I won't have to worry about any characters falling behind in their levels

Oh yeah, and is it just me, or is Rikku WAAAAAAAY too hot in FFX-2 for a 15 year-old?????

EDIT: hahahaha I was just going through the media on ign and I saw O'aka :) That guy cracks me up showing up everywhere you go in FFX. Of course, I probably should have paid him more in the beginning of FFX ;) :p

battlemouth 11-11-2003 08:07 PM

fugue_life 11-12-2003 08:39 PM

I'd just like to say that really sucks. A lot. I want ffx-2. Now. And what's wrong with spending 100 hours on a an excellent game. At least you are getting your 50 bucks worth. (as opposed to a 12 hour game.)

Tiser 11-12-2003 11:35 PM

Nah I wouldn't want the data to xfer over... most of the game is brand spankin new anyways.

In time I'll rank up another 300 hrs on ffx2 anyways.

So I just read the first two pages of the review and wow I can't wait. I wish I had more expendable income.... I'm refusing to read more about the game until I have it.

HoChiMinh 11-19-2003 12:03 PM

To anyone who got it allready.
Is the fighting like in FFX where turns are taken for hits, or is it more real time, where you don't have forever to make your move?

Prophecy 11-19-2003 12:22 PM

The old ATB system is back from the earlier games. The battle system from FFX is gone...

battlemouth 11-21-2003 05:59 PM

its a very fast paced battle system, yum yum

Prophecy 11-21-2003 06:05 PM

It was almost to fast for me when I first started playing. I figure I'm still going to have to switch the game to wait mode instead of active in the later parts of the game.

SecretMethod70 11-22-2003 10:17 PM

Now that I've played a bit of FFX-2 I think it's fair for me to say that it really is a very fun game - but VERY different. :)

I know that it does get more serious further down the road, but so far this game has mainly been fun and funny. Just a bunch of light-hearted silliness - and there's nothing wrong with that :)

I, too, found the battle system to be a little fast at first. I'm playing on wait mode right now and maybe I'll eventually try to do it in active mode again.

I was just reminded today that there is more than one ending to the game - when I was given an obviously critical choice to make. So, be warned and be prepared, there will come times when your choices DO directly effect the end of the game - how much, I don't know because I don't want to spoil anything, but there is an effect nonetheless.

Overall, from all I can tell so far, if you liked FFX *AND* have an open mind and don't require your RPG experience to be a wholly serious one, then definitely get FFX-2. It's a really fun game so far and actually - dare I say it - pretty cute ;)

WhoaitsZ 11-28-2003 10:36 AM

FF X-2 is simply fucking awesome. my stomach did almost commit suicide with 'yuna's opening, though :)

i fuckin love this game cuz it is both vastly different enough to enjoy while not being redundant and not being so new that you feel new to it.

the job system is very, very fun too. and, despite the pink everywhere, i find it refreshing to be rid of bad attitude pscho hero-wannabes for at least one FF.

battlemouth 11-28-2003 07:56 PM

i heard there is a new game plus option once you beat the game once, where you get to keep all your items and what not but start a new game. this will make it much easier to get the alternate endings. as far as i understand there are two endings, the 100% complete ending and the otherwise ending.

Prophecy 11-28-2003 08:10 PM

Actually there are 3 endings. A Common ending, a Good ending and a Perfect ending. And once you beat the game once you get the option to save the game as a plus file.

The plus file lets you begin a new game with all the dresspheres, garment grids, accessories, items, Al Bhed primers, special dresspheres upgrades, 1 key item I'm not going to name, and ablities that you gained in the previous game. All your character's levels are reset to level 1 though.

if i would have a ps2 i would play it .. but only for this game i wont buy one ? or is there a bundle coming `??

Apokx 12-01-2003 12:12 PM

The only bundle I could think of might be a game store selling the game+guide for the price of the game. (Friend of mine usually buys alot of his games this way).

The store is either Babbages or something like that...

In any case, I dont think they have ever sold a FF with a Playstation/PS2

1337haxor 12-01-2003 07:55 PM

it started out kind of slow but dude did it pick up at the end of chap 2

Parabola 01-12-2004 12:51 AM

I was enjoying the game except for all the random encounters. It is insane I can't go 2 steps anymore without getting attacked. It wasn't bad at first. Ever since I had went looking for the 3rd leblanc uniform on the mountain place the random encounters have been insane. I stopped playing for a while. The only thing I can figure is that I'm at to high a level. I got lost and started just wandering around and got pretty high and end any battle in 1 and a half turns easy.

Prophecy 01-12-2004 08:30 AM

there is an item you can equip that stops all random encounters. Once I figure out where I found it at I'll report back in :)

ebeye 01-12-2004 11:37 AM

Same here.

As for random encounters, make sure you don't have anything on that makes them more likely. It sounds to me like you're getting far more than is normal. I'm at level 60 at the beginning of chapter 3 and my encounters aren't bad at all unless I have the lure accessory on.

Ganguro 01-12-2004 06:49 PM

VitaminH 01-13-2004 09:04 PM

So what do people think of the battle system? I'm tossing around getting this as I really liked FFX, but I liked being able to stop and think in a fight about who's going to do what. If i turn off this active mode, and put on this wait mode will the battle system be similar? Just curious...

SecretMethod70 01-13-2004 09:10 PM

wait mode is still fast - it just means time doesn't progress once you pass up the first level of menu.

I really like the battle system actually. It's very different from FFX and very fast paced but it's a lot of fun and I like the job system :)

But, yes, it wasn't as good as it sounded. However, you should know there are 2 possible spa scenes depending on how you approach the place.

Haven't finished yet as life got in the way, but I definitely didn't think the game was slow and boring. If you're set in your ways as far as how Final Fantasy should be though you may not like it - it's far less serious and very different as far as playing style than other FF's. From what I've played it does seem to be of a normal length for FF games, and even if it's not, once you beat the game there is a "new game+" option to go through the game again with all the items, etc that you've already gathered. There are three different possible endings too, so chances are you'll want to do that unless you maybe somehow get the "perfect ending" the first time.

Cool. I do quite like my FF games serious, but a bit of humour won't hurt, call me boring but I also like them pretty linear because a really strong story can be crafted then. Thanks for the replies anyway, it sounds much better now, I read somewhere that it was like Tombraider so I was panicking big time!

Well, it's pretty much not serious at all in many aspects. It has a serious issue underlying it, but the approach is about as not serious as you can get (at least, as far as I've played which is about 50% through).

As for being linear, it is and it isn't. It is linear in the sense that you only have a certain number of possible choices at any given time, but you can choose to do those possible things in almost whatever order you want.

I'd recommend just renting it, playing it as much as you can while you rent it to get a feel for it (DO NOT rely on your first impression - take time to get used to it and get more "into" the story). If you like it after renting it, then buy it and you can still use your saved games.

I'm one the verge of entering chapter 5, and I'm enjoying the toungue in cheek approach in this game. Although there are a few parts that could be better (sphere break); I still like the general plot. I'm definitely very satisfied with my fifty dollar investment.
