planetside- is it all it seems?
ok, ill give it the graphics...
ill give it the ingeniuity of having like 4k people in a game but.....in 3 hours of playing it before at my friends house, i saw ONE enemy just one....in 3 hours....my friends who are in it say that its usually like that...ive only talked to 1 person whose been in an actual battle. and with having to pay about $10 a month when it comes out..i ask you..is it really worth it..at all? |
no idea what your talking about, always 10-50 people running around on my screen when im out. your friend MUST be avoiding combat zones.
|
Yep, with the new lattice structure battles are HUGE. Too big in some people's minds. I've been in dozens of large battles. Nothing like seeing your squad of misfits getting dropped on by 2 Galaxies worth of well organized bad guys. I may be the only squad leader to ever order "run away, run away!"
|
I'll be trying this when it is released.
|
it'll be perfect once they track down the current lag bug. I was in a battle the other night with well over 100 people. My god, I didn't last more than 30 seconds after spawning. It was great!
|
yeah i've played Tribes2 with 60 people... So I'm sad that my computer died when it did... there was no point signing up.. as school is so busy i still have yet to order parts.. but as i was saying.. 60 people all shooting. that was insane.. 100+ would be awesome... might be my first PBM game.... heh
|
I just killed 50 people, plenty of people around.
|
silly takes me about 2 mins after leaving the sanc to get my first kill.....but im a 1337 reaver pilot thou

We need more people voting - I'm thinking of getting it, but i heard bad things from seretogis in this thread - http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....&threadid=7011

Having been in the last phase of Beta, I'd say the game's pretty damn good. If you're not seeing anyone in hours, you're not using the Map feature and the various forms of transport right. The Map shows you hotspots, either run, fly, or drive to them, or just wait on the HART and drop straight into the action. Join a squad, ride a Galaxy out to the battle. No reason to go more than at most, 30 minutes without someone to shoot at. Even as a MAX I could get to battles relatively shortly on foot, on my own. The game had some lag and slowdown issues, as well as issues with the options (It turned up my particles, and then never let me turn them back down afterwards), and some balance issues (Damn dual cyclers), but other than that I thought it was pretty good. Sure, I died to the vicious TR weapons a lot, but all I did was jump right back into the action. I'll be picking the game up, I know that.

I strongly advise against purchasing this game. I played in the beta for a few weeks and, while the dev team means well, the "higher ups" that make decisions on when and how changes are implemented will destroy the game. The lattice/matrix system (an extremely huge change to the gameplay) was introduced four weeks before the official release of the game. The experience system was changed radically one week before release. Purchase Planetside now, and you will be playing a sub-beta-quality product and paying $13/month to test it.
Before playing Planetside, I played EverQuest (on a PvP server) for three years which is also run by SOE (just like Planetside). After 4+ years of the servers being up, PvP in EverQuest is still broken and SOE has made no commitment to fix it. However, in that time they've managed to release four expansions and raise the monthly fee. Go figure. If you're looking for a good FPS that really utilizes team-work and is balanced, play Q3F (www.q3f.com) or the Natural Selection HL mod (www.natural-selection.org). If you want to play a watered-down zerg-powered lag-fest that doesn't even compare to FPSes that were released three years ago, but holds a lot of people, play Planetside. |
personally i thought the latice system was a great addition to the game.

It is a good game for about 2-4 months.
No economy and no missions=not enough replay value to justify paying 13 bucks a month. There should just be more. In my squad we had someone get br 20 in three weeks. Took the rest about 4 1/2 to 5 weeks and thus it was way to easy to level up. We are not power gamers...only a couple to a few hours a night. Anyways short-term the game is great....long term stick with HL or T2 or BF1942. Art |

I was 'lucky' enough to be in the open beta also. In the short term the game IS great. But the biggest problem is the lack of adherence to the idea of the game. Planetside is designed to have a squad (or a platoon) of people organized together for battles. However, 99% of the time, squads end up getting split up and not being the teams they were intended to be. In the 4-5 weeks I played Planetside, I found 1 squad that actually worked together, and that night was AWESOME. We took on multiple squads more than once and won because we worked together instead of as 10 solo people sharing xp. IF when people start paying to play the game, they actually get the idea of working as teams instead of individuals, the game will be great (but I don't think that will happen in the first 6 months of gameplay). Another thing though, the xp system got fixed. After they changed the xp system the last time, I made a new toon. Got BR3 before leaving sanctuary (from VR training) and it took me as long to get to BR7 then as it took me to get my first toon to BR17. The xp slowed down alot. I'm not gonna buy the game anytime soon, but around December (when I get really bored again) I'll look into it I'm sure.

It looks like a great game - but it all depends on who you play with |
