PS2 drops to $99 in November!
According to IGN's information, the PS2 will drop to $99 next month. Might be a good time to get one if ya don't have one. :)

aw man!.. i baught my ps2 only a couple months ago!
/me swears crudely for a bit ^^ |
take it back, then rebuy it in a month! if you dont have your recipt, get a gift card or whatever from the store you got it from, then buy it again in november!
|
i call bullshit, price point will be $149.99 not $99.99
|
I'm with Bulk. Take this rumor with a grain of salt... hell, dump an entire carton of Morton's on it.
$149 is the next logical price point - especially given that the PS3 won't come out until 2006. *If* Target does move with the $99 price point, it'll be on a limited supply of the blue-box PS2s to drive sales. I doubt the retailer will eat a $70 loss on many units - just enough to get people into the stores on 11/28. That said, I don't even think we'll see that scenario happening. |
amen.
Sony doesnt need to spur their console sales any. Everyone knows the real money is in software and add-ons. Plus their new buyer market is diminishing, so it is a highly unlikely scenario. If it is true, i might have to actually buy one of those things *grumbles* |
drop it to 99 bucks and I'll buy one.
|
I agree that it doesn't seem likely. Hell, IGN even said it doesn't seem likely, and that the $149.99 price is supposed to emerge. I guess we'll see in November. I was just stating that IGN, one of the most reputable video game news companies in the world, has the actual ads for this price drop. If it doesn't go through, then a bunch of Targets got a lot of useless ad fliers.

If it hits $99, and the refurbs drop to $79 I might trade in my PS1 and DC towards one.
Given that Sony dropped their price to $179 at the same time MS dropped the XBox price, then bundled a network adapter with it and priced it back at $199 again tells me that they PROBABLY aren't dropping the price $100. |
I would highly advise you not to purchase a used or refurbished ps2. The laser mechanism has been known to be flaky and conk out after about 2 years or so and once you buy a refurbished system your warrenty is what.. 39 days? 6 months? a year at best.. then when it dies you are screwed. Even if it gets flaky under store warrenty.. the best you can get for it is store credit.. which isnt enough to get a new system and you'll just keep trading used system for used system.. which doesnt solve anything.

We've gone through four ps2's in the last 8 months. They don't hold up to sand very well.
|
hmmm... If they do drop to $99 I might just have to pick one up. Didn't they say they were going to release a version of the PS2 that played VCDs and SVCDs?
|
hmmm maybe ill ask for it for xmas
|
So what would that be in Canadian dollas eh?

There's a reason why spived2 has went through four PS2's in the past 8 months, and it's because of the sand he mentioned. On top of that, the PS2 must be a worthy system if it's been replaced four times. I've had two since it debuted with my second one lasting a damn long time.

would consider buying one, but no in hell am I having a television in my apartment and dubious how effective it would be going through my old dying ATI TV capture card.
|
If it is true, I wonder if Microsoft will follow suit with the XBox?
|
I dont believe its true, I read this a few days ago.
|
If it is true, I'll buy one. I just haven't thought that $200 or $150 is worth it. I've been quite happy with my PC. But at $100, I think I'd buy one.
|
I've had the same PS2 for about 2 years now, havent had to buy a new one. Had to get it repaired once but it was under warrenty, hasnt messed up since, just gotta keep the lens cleaned out. So I don't know what you guys are doing to have to buy new PS2's or whatever. But it is worth the buy.
