Most Favorite Older School Game
Now, to define old school, we will say any game that came in cartridge form. That discludes PS, PS2, Dreamcast, GC, and any other non-cartridge games. For the N64, use your judgement as that is a newer system that came out while non-cartridge games were also coming out.
I have a long list, only because I cannot make decisions. 1-Gyroscope for NES 2-Metriod, but even more so, Super Metroid 3-Zombies ate my Neighbors 4-Super Mario Brothers 3 5-Mario Paint |
NES: Legend of Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, SMB3, Contra
SNES: Street Fighter II, Super Bomberman II, F-Zero Older School: Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Q-Bert also Final Fantasy 1 through 6. are what immediately come to mind |
Wisdom Tree's Bible Adventures for NES
Particurally, Noah's Arc mode. http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/odd/title.jpg http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/odd/noah.jpg http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/odd/mary.jpg http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/odd/david.jpg You had to return all the animals to the boat, and you could fit about four animal on your head before they start to fall off. They could also hurt you and you had to answer bible questions to regain your health. Now thats what I call religion!:D |
Pac-man
Space Invaders Metriod |
Ha, I own Bible Adventures. Weird game. I also have another Bible game... it's called King of Kings. Very similar.
I'd say Mario 3 Pac-man Mario Paint Destiny of an Emperor (NES RPG, reminded me of Pokemon, which if you ignore the kiddy hype around it was a good game) Final Fantasy Chrono Trigger Secret of Mana Mega Man X |
0) Chopper (or whatever that classic on the C-64 was called)
1) Pacman 2) Bard's Tale 3) Mario Brothers on Atari 7800 (broke one million on that one after 6 plus hours and clearing level 100 where the game loops again) 5) Pole Position on the same platform - still my favourite racing game 6) Orginal Wolfenstein and Doom |

final fantasy tactics advance!!!
if that's the way it's going to be.. <b>SOBE IT!!!</B> |
w00t, bible adventures good? I just finished slagging it off in the worst games thread :P sorry if anyone takes offence, but I thought it was awful.
Anyways, my favs: Sonic series Prince of Persia (snes) Super Metroid Flashback Another world Blackthorn |
Gotta rack my brain here for a second....
Kung Fu (Atari 2600) King's Quest V (pc) Super Mario 3 Super Spike V-Ball (nes) |
Come on people, more than 10 posts and no mention of River City Ransom??!? wow.........
"What's this? A fighting game where you get money to buy things?!?!!" Blew my mind...... |
Quote:
It's fun but it's still a horrid game, IMO. |
Sorry, I have to go with the computer game Hotrod II.
|
the evolution of Zelda is great...
i really love the old orginal style on the NES and the the SNES... but the transformation on N64 and thus the GameCube is phenomenal... so my fav old school games would have to be the Legend of Zelda. |
I really didn't play alot of console games, since I've never owned a single console in my life, but the ones that did stand out after I started using emulators are:
NES: Super Mario Brothers 3 NES: Astyanax SNES: Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past SNES: Mario World SNES: Chrono Trigger SNES: Final Fantasy III/VI/whatever it is... the awesome one Classic stuff... they don't make em like this anymore. |
1.) UN Squadron
2.) Mario Paint 3.) Track and Field (for the NES... with the runner pad) 4.) DUCK HUNT (quack quack) 5.) Pilot Wings UN Squadon kicked major ass back in the day... I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned.... or maybe I missed it. |
I love playing a lot of the older games some of my foavorites are:
1) pong - using the paddles built into the console 2) ghostbusters - commadore 64 3) horse race- TI 99/4A 4) parsec - TI 99/4A 5) Frogger - Atari 2600 6) Combat - Atari 2600 7) the mario series on NES including game boy ( orginal gey screen) 8) Zelda series that is all I can rember right now even though there is a lot more to be enjoyed. |

Bards Tale - C64
Stunt Car Racer - Amiga Chaos - ZX Spectrum Atic Attack - ZX Spectrum |
Keystone Caper - Atari
Ghoul Patrol - SNES (it was like Zombies Ate My Neighbors but 9 million times better) Soldiers of Fortune -SNES Kangaroo - Atari Gyruss - If you don't know then you shouldn't be playing video games. Bonanza Bros - Genesis Rise of the Dragon - Sega CD Dark Savior - Sega Saturn Dragon Force - Sega Saturn Just about anything with the word "Castle" in the title. Ultima - see Gyruss Dragon Warrior series - see Gyruss. My list goes on and on and on... but those are some of my favs. It just seems that console game makers have lost their touch and are only holding onto the short attention span market. Games aren't fun on consoles any more and PC game makers aren't making games anymore... they're making half games and releasing patches to make up for their initial mistakes. |
River Raid - Atari 2600
Leisure Suit Larry - PC Star Control - Genesis Star Fox - Super NES Rise of the Dragon - Sega CD Cosmic Chasm - Vectrex Rush'n Attack - NES Oh, and Joe Montana Sports Talk Football - The football game sucked but the anouncers were sooo cool and inovative. |
Castlevania series (all platforms)
Legend of Zelda series (all platforms) Phantasy Star series (all platforms) Final Fantasy series (all platforms) |
Tecmo Super Bowl.
(Bo Jackson is God.) |
Fuzzix said Flashback..god I love that game. I play it over and over and over on my gen. I also like Shadowrun for the genesis..those two still get play on the lil black box..

Bionic Commando (NES)

I forgot to mention Elite on the C64. So much of my teenage life was spent on that game. Even by todays standard it is still worth playing as it is so addictive.
Also for multiplayers a game called MULE. Again this was on the C64. |
Frostbite - Atari 2600
H.E.R.O. - Atari 2600 Solaris - Atari 2600 Gyruss - Atari 2600 I also liked Oregon Trail, Odell Lake, Cross Country Canada and Number Munchers on the old Apple computer at school.:D |

that game owns all |
Chrono Trigger
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Bubble Bobble Super Mario 3 Oregon Trail(jus cuz i played that in elementary comp class.. instead of doing my assignment)! |
Donkey Kong Country was good, and number 2 was better.
Also, Super Smash Bros and Mario Party were, and still are, the epitomes of party games. Sure, the sequels have improved on and refined the formula, but in all, the original and the best holds true. |
Tecmo Super Bowl - only football game I ever liked. My friends and I used to stay up all night playing this thing in my dorm room. Damned near got me kicked out school.
Zombies Ate my Neighbors, Earthworm Jim, River Raid, River city Ransom, Granada (Sega), Parsec (TI), Adventure (TI), Super Bomberman I & II, Gyruss... I could go on for hours. I wish I could find some of my old systems and the games on them. |
Where cartridge-based games are concerned, I've only owned a NES, Gameboy and GBA. So there's a shitlist of games I still have to catch up to. Nevertheless:
NES: Super Mario 3 SNES : Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger (I'm yet to finish any of these, I'll get around to it one of these days. Thank god for emulation) Gameboy : Tetris, of course |
Wasteland is my contribution to the list
|
doubt I can complete the list, I'll try to keep it short
Chrono Trigger, Metroid, Super Metroid, All 4 TMNT Games (4 is awesome multiplayer badness), All Mega Man Games (X is sweet, I make that game look simple), Zelda, All three Contras ( I own 1 and 2 ;)), Snake Rattle & Roll, Marble Madness, Arch Rivals, Super Spike 'n' Vollyball, Super Dodgeball.. oh man the list goes on! heh. There was this one game for the C64.. I can't remember the name, but you were this little stickman that had to collect orbs. there was either a time limit or some other guy you had to race. At harder levels bullets would shoot past the screen at varying speeds. With a color monitor it was all rainbow colors ;) Oh one of the really hard levels was that it was invisible, and you had to creep along to show the board without falling off...... Soon after they shot bullet at you too.. heh |
NES - Conflict
SNES - Secret of Mana or Ogre Battle |
orge battle is amazing
the story line and war aspect make it a fantastic game the only problemis the amout of time it takes to beat it and getting the best ending is very hard as well |
Quote:
Some of my other favorites are Castlevania 3, Final Fantasy 2(4), and if old school arcade games count, Final Fight. |
NES Russian Attack, Metroid, Zelda, Contra
Atari 2600 Defender, Pitfall, and Q-Bert. I can't remember the system my cousin had, but the controllers had inserts you put in and I remember doing his fucking chores so I could get my fix of mid 80's Joust  How could I forget:eek: Madden 1993 for SEGA! Any football game where "PUNT RUSH" is the unstoppable defense should be mentioned. |
NES: Duck Hunt
NES: Commando NES: Dr.Mario SNES: Super Mario 3 |
|
Good thread! Makes me wanna break out my old systems...
- Mario 3 - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Street Fighter 2 (and Alpha) - Mario Cart - Mega Man games - Tetris (NES, first one I think) - Pilot Wings - Mario Paint - Punch Out (Mike Tyson's) - GoldenEye 007 (N64, kind of old school) - Pictionary - Mega Man X - Donkey Kong games - And many more! |

Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger Super Metroid (beating it without the grappling beam is a biatch...) Zelda: A Link to the Past The SNES just had KILLER games for it. Oh how I wish those days were back again. :P |
Lucas Arts adventure games for PC:
Grim Fandango The Monkey Island series Indiana Jones series Day of the Tentacle Maniac Mansion Than there's the Police Quest series by Sierra And I was addicted to WCW Revenge, Goldeneye, and Mario Kart for N64. |

Strider (Genesis) X-Men 1 & 2 (Genesis) Actraiser (SNES) Caveman Games (NES) -Actually, it isn't that great, but I love the concept, and have great memories of playing it with my sister. |
NES: Rush 'N Attack (no it is not Russian :) ) is by far the best nes game in my opinion.
SNES: Secret of Mana, I like it even more than FF7, also love Shadowrun and Super Tecmo Bowl. |
Mario All-Stars for my SNES. Damn thing doesn't save any more for some reason.
|
Is it a little too sad that I still remember the cheat code for Contra?
My list: Atari: For some reason, I really liked Burger Time  oh, and Kaboom! NES: Contra, Super Mario Bros. 3, Punch Out, Legend of Zelda, California Games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... Genesis: Sonic of course, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Earthworm Jim... PC: King's Quest, Space Quest, and going even more old school, Leather Goddesses of Phobos and Lemonade Stand. ...I want to play all these again now. :D |

WORMS.. dont know if that counts
and raiden is super fun |
Back when I was in elementary school, we had macs and a game called Dino Park was on it. It was a tycoon type game where you keep dinosaurs as pets and get people to visit them, kind of like a zoo. A bunch of us would constantly play it and get competitive on earning the most amount of money. Great game and it was quite addicting.
|
Zelda: Link to the Past & Super Mario Bros
|
Quote:
I so have to get one now, Contra for the NES was fricken awesome! ^_^ Other great old-skool NES games: Megaman 2-- The Metal Gun was simply the best gun any of the games in the series have ever had, proving the fact that the uglier the color of the new costume the cooler the gun. :D Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game-- which was actually better in the arcades with 4 people, IMO. Bible adventures-- I don't care what anyone else thinks, the Noah's Ark game was fun. Any game where you get to stun pigs with bales of hay, then balance them on top of your head, scores points in my book. |
EXCITEBIKE!

Others include: NES: The Three Mario Games [1,2,3], The Mega Man Series [1 through 8 or 9], Zelda, Double Dragon and Duck hunt. SNES: Chrono Trigger Final Fantasies [1,2,3] Mega Man X, X2, X3 Earthbound Terranigma (Not really well known) Secret of Mana 1 and 2 Secret of Evermore, Illusion of Gaia Sunset Riders Aerofighters Contra 3 Turtles in Time Mario Cart Actraiser [One Not Two] and Super Mario World! Hmm... From all these, I'd have to say Final Fantasy three would Just edge out the others for the number one spot. Gothmog: I loved Starcontrol and Starcontrol 2! Brilliant games! |
snes: Earthbound
...hmm...Earthbound was one of the strangest rpgs i had ever seen...the enemies were strange(crazed hippies, mean bag ladies, feeble old men, etc), and the battle items were weird(frying pans and baseball bats)...and the story line wasn't typical of an rpg either(i remember having to save a girl from the 'happy happist cult')...but it was one of the best rpgs i ever played. |
Quote:
Relax your not the only one... Games NES: Final Fantasy Contra Metal Gear Double Dragon Punch Out SNES: Final Fantasy 2&3 Crono Trigger Super Punch Out Mario World Mario RPG (Best Mario Game EVER!) |

I cant believe no one has said "Speedball" on the megadrive. I loved that game. I played it so much I burnt the cartridge out. If I knew where to buy it now I would. That was such a cool game.
|
Shining Force
Simply the greatest RPG ever. Ever. EVER! |
double dragon... i remember a 15 minute wait minimum at the arcades when that game first came out. all the 7-11's had one and you could play all day an night. of course if you died, the person with their quarter up had next.
