Final Fantasy 7 sequel, Prequel, or Remake is upon us.
 

Alright folks, if you have been reading the news recently, you would know that by FRIDAY we will know what squaresoft is doing to Final Fantasy VII. It is almost 100% that they are doing something. So, rumors have been poring out of every orifice these past few weeks. So let’s go over them shall we?

First-

This picture was release, apparently gift bags for the upcoming Tokyo game show. Realistic, if you look close, it’s shadowed out figures of the Turks, with dark lettering that says Project Shinra. Also the original FF7 logo is in the corner. Looks promising, this could be a prequel or maybe a spin off from the Turks point of view during the same events as FF7. Just one idea.

Second-

Something called Final Fantasy Advent Children, a possible MOIVE, or maybe just CG screen shots of the remake, or sequel, ect.

Now I don’t believe that this is a movie, and the website said that square announced it.....sure right, square announced it only to their website.....anyways, and they are not reliable. BUT those pictures look god dammed real. My vote is that it is a remake, those shots look like scenes from the game. The one with the window behind cloud looks like the garden scene from ff7 with aires. And the one with sephrioth in the fire? Yeah.

I know I typed a lot, but this is HUGE news.

Eeeeeh? I need to keep up with the industry, this thing almost went right over my head!
I don't know what to think about remakes though.... the word gives me nightmares regardless if it is handled well in the end or not.

Seriously look at the pictures of sephrioth in the fire, that looks EXACTLY like the one from FF7!! God i hope its not a movie.

A friend suggested to me that it might be the original game repackaged for the PS2 with all new FMV's. I hope he's wrong, because those screens look AMAZING.

This info is being revealed by Jump magazine.

I honestly have no idea how reliable this info is, but it seems to be the only info right now. I honestly hope it's not a fucking movie. Didn't they learn with The Spirits Within?

i was reading my GMR and they were saying based on the popularity of x-2 there will or will not be sequels to other more memorable FF games

FFVII had a plot coherent enough to base a movie upon? could've fooled me... but then anime still continues to exist... ;)

listen people, all these gaming sites your linking me too is all from the same information! Its all from V-Jump magazine, I KNOW THIS. This does not mean that the orginal source isnt reliable, or that these traslations are correct. My point is that most likely its a movie, and that this is true, but im not going to belive anything untill Friday, at the Tokyo Game Show, when square shows us all the details out of their mouths.

Cloud looks amazingly badass with actual detail. The gloves he has on look amazingly realistic. No matter what it turns out to be, I'll definitly try it out.

Hey, I think the FF7 movie could have potential! I'd really perfer a remake, but I'd still think it'd be fun to watch a continuation of the game on dvd. Hope it's captivating!

I saw this stuff like 4 months ago.

Never played VII but it's a unanimous decision amongst FF fans that it's the best FF ever.

The FF movie in my mind was NOT a FF movie, an FF movie needs, romance, action, a deep and meaningful plot, character development, magic, a downtrodden hero and an overwhelming task. The Spirits Within was visually quite nice but it didn't cut it.

I'm helping my nephew through it right now.

It's so nice to be able to pass these things on to a younger generation....../nostalgia

FF7 refuses to run on my Windows 2000 box. :( I want to replay it so bad. *whimper*

A FF3 remake would probably send me over the edge to make me buy a new gaming system. For some reason I've got this thing where I don't like most new games until they've been out for a while. My newest system is an N64 and I'm just starting to give Zelda a chance for that system.

FF3 was one of my altime favorite games though. Seeing it remade would kick ass.

And, it's been confirmed. It's a 60 minute movie, two years after FF7. "Something happens to disturb the peace that was returned at the end of FFVII. Images revealed from the DVD seem to show Cloud and Sephiroth."

I wish Square would listen to their fans a little more...FF7 is easily the most popular FF out there. Yes, FFX is popular, but people all over the world are dying to play as Cloud again...not see him in a movie!

It's a MOVIE? I hate square so bad, if it were a remake I would have sobbed like a fat girl at prom. As it is, fuck them and their exponentially sucky franchise.

Since 7 it's been getting worse and worse. 8 sucked, 9 was a little better, 10 was highly concentrated shit, and 11 sucks too.

I think we are happy, i know i am, but im mad at the same time, i just want a game more than a movie, were all let down. I know i will buy this movie, and i know that it will be good. I would just rather play a 50 hour + game, then watch a 1 hour movie.

Now...it does look interesting. But thats cause I'm a sucker for good CGI Movies(other than the ones in their games. they can go to hell...). CGI Movies are fine. CGI Movies in games...alright I guess. CGI Movies in games that are far too long... >_>

The story in FF7 was really good. I'm annoyed that they're going to pull some cheap trick in order to restore the beautiful, tragic, marketable villain to his former glory.

I'm bitching because I thought they'd have enough of a grasp on morality to sack ffx-2 in favor of something good, like a sequel to ff7. It's like getting a McDonalds toy for Christmas.

They don't have any standards of excellence anymore, they've just started milking people for their money. 10 gets a sequel? Come on, that game completely sucked. Remake 7, you foriegn bastards.

FFX sucked? Where the hell did that come from? That game was absolutely amazing in every aspect. As a matter of fact, the ONLY qualm I had with it was Yuna's poor voice editing. Other than that, the game was fucking great. I'm a huge FF7 fan, but I have to say that FFX compared to it easily. FF7 may still be my favorite, but it doesn't make FFX a bad game. The story, characters, and definitely the battle system made that game a classic. I loved the leveling system that allowed the players to add which statistics they needed at whatever time they wanted. Each of the Final Fantasy's that have came out have been drastically different from each other, but that still doesn't mean that the others "suck." Every damn one of them deserve the highest regards in the gaming community. Just because they didn't deliver as good of a main character or plot as the previous game doesn't mean that they are labelled as bad.

I have to agree with you on FFX-2 though; I'm not too sure about it. If it gets good reviews, I'm all for it though. I don't care how they market it; I don't care how cheesy it may seem. If the fucking game gets good reviews, then I'll play it. It's as simple as that. There's no reason to not play a game simply because it "looks" like you might not enjoy it. The first time I saw Chrono Trigger, I thought it was stupid how when they attacked the numbers appeared above the enemies. Ha ha. Now I've played and beaten dozens of RPGs, simply because I gave a game that looked stupid a chance.

I can't wait for this movie. FF7 was my first rpg I ever played and really got me into the whole rpg thing. I'm glad they didn't just remake the game, it's still fun to play on my playstation here and there.

Yeah, I honestly wouldn't want a FF7 sequel or a remake. Both would get me really damn excited, but it's simply not something that I feel should be done. Square Enix needs to concentrate on their current titles, not sequels or remakes. That FF12 teaser got me damn excited.

I almost fully agree with you Lasereth. One of my disagreements is you said Yuna had a bad voice edit. I didn't mind that, the thing that bothered me was Tidus' voice in general. He got on my nerves. Auron and Kimahri were probably the best characters in that game. Indeed FFX was good, but FFVII was that much better, and it does kind of annoy me that they would make a sequel game to FFX and a sequel movie to FFVII, for fear that they will fuck up what FFVII already has with a movie. But they could very well fuck it up with a game too. I like the idea of remaking FFVII on the PS2 with enhanced graphics and things like that, like they are dping to Metal Gear Solid 1 for the GC.

FFVII was overrated. I'm glad they're not making a sequel to it. Bring on Font Mission 4!

FFVII was no where close to overated..... i try to cover bad things but i dont come with many not compared to a large amount of titles on the market.

I wish that all the final fantasy games would get put out again, although with the PS2 able to backwards compatible with PSOne games I doubt this is very unlikely. What was a blast was playing the Lunar series on the PSOne after the SegaCD died they remade them for ths ps.

I'd like to know how they plan on making a 2-3 hour movie out of the entire FF7 game. That game was really friggin long!

heh i did but then i moved around in reading it and have been talking about the stuff with my friends looking for stuff. We found they are supposed to be making one for part 9 also i think it was.

Thats cool, 3 years ago they wanted to remake all of the final fantasy's on ps1......what happend to that....

They did,they added CG scenes to the games and released them by 2 games each.

I recently read in GI that SquareEnix is going to do a re-make of the original FFVII on PS2 in addition to releasing this movie. Anyone else heard something about this? The quote from the mag reads

Game Informer, i dont quite trust them, i have a subscription myself....anyways, i do know that square is going to release 7,8,9 again, but for the ps1, like they are doing new box art, and start making the games again.

Gamers wondering where Square's PlayStation titles have disappeared to will be relieved to find out that they haven't simply vanished. Square Enix has released freshly minted copies of games including Final Fantasy VII through Final Fantasy IX, as well as Chrono Cross. The new titles have cleaner label and CD art and are printed with the Square Enix logo, as opposed to the old Square moniker.

It is not clear at this point if the reprinting of the titles will be limited to the four mentioned above, nor is it certain how widespread the re-release is intended to be. It was previously fairly easy to obtain copies of the four games listed above, although there was a period where no new copies were printed.

If they re-do the games,I sincerely hope they dont muck things up.

Personally, I wasnt too impressed by FFX, but at least it wasnt total shit like 8(lets punish you for leveling up!) I'd like to see a sequal/remake of FF6 though. Thats the best one by far in my opinion.

I highly, highly doubt FF7 remake for the cube, only because the only new info is of the movie that they are making. I would love a remake of 7. I love FFX, one of my favorites, next to 7 and 3(6), i would love a remake or sequal to 6 more than anything though, i think that it would be way cooler to see all of your favorite characters from 6 coming alive in a 3d world, and remastered music, damn, that would just be fucking great.

Ill agree with you about 8, i didnt hate it, and it wasnt horrible, but i thought most of the other FF were way better.
